About Piatti - La Jolla
A tradition to many La Jollans, this Italian bistro serves fresh authentic regional Italian cuisine. A landmark Ficus tree takes up one corner of their very popular patio, but the bright and cheerful dining room is delightful during the day or on those chilly evenings when it’s too cold to sit outside. The menu is presented in an innovative and creative fashion offering a wide variety of pastas, pizza and grilled items. In addition, you may find many vegetarian and health conscious dishes. Brunch is served on Saturday and Sunday and includes specialties such as Uovo Benedetto (Eggs Benefits served on grilled polenta with basil hollandaise) along with omelets and breakfast pizzas.

Piatti - La Jolla Ratings and Reviews
Our favorite place in La Jolla! We drive down from Orange County periodically for an overnight getaway and without fail, we go to Piatti for dinner. We look forward to it between trips. Food is amazing. Ambiance is great! Wish it was down the street from my house so I could eat pasta everyday!
The food was great and we had a nice time dining with a friend. Perhaps our waiter was new? Weren't asked what we would like to drink, or about salad or appettizers- just straight to main course order. Seemed a little out of synch, but we enjoyed and will be back.
Piatti has a wonderful outdoor dining area but it was a little cold outside so we decided to eat inside. Sat near the bar but it was very comfortable. Our server Stephanie was very professional and knew the menu well. She helped guide us thru the specials. Very good food and setting. A great place to get together with friends. Obviously a local favorite spot.
It was so fun to show up to the restaurant and have personalized birthday menus. I mentioned in my Open Table reservation that our gathering was for my husband's birthday...the personalized menus were such a fun surprise! The ambiance, food and service were all excellent.
The cauliflower & polenta appetizers were tired and not very flavorful. The spaghetti with meatballs was mediocre with a sauce that was more brown than deep red. So, we asked if they could make a real zesty red tomato sauce with spaghetti and we got a sauce that was mainly a bunch of chopped tomatoes with olive oil and garlic. The spicy sausage pizza also had a brownish sauce and was very lacking in any savory flavors. All our dishes were flat and disappointing.
Our server was nice and attentive but, since we were celebrating a special occasion, we did not want to get into a debate about the food.
Piatti was recommended by a friend, and it lived up to her review. We sat on the patio, which was quieter than inside and beautifully lit. The food was outstanding. I had the saffron papperadelle, which was incredibly flavorful. The staff was very accommodating.
We always enjoy dining on the patio at Piatti's it's a beautiful setting. On this occasion there were 7 of us and they sat us next to a gate when patio furniture was being moved in when the rest of the patio was mostly vacant. An odd choice for sure. Otherwise will continue to visit Piatti whenever we are in SD.
Glad we had reservations as the restaurant had many customers waiting. That's a hint.
Our waiter was attentive and pleasant. Nice guy.
Whatever they put in the olive oil to dip bread in is almost crack, so, so good. The bread was pretty good too. Mussels we're great. Veal scallopini was very tender and the caper sauce was perfect. It was accompanied with fried risotto cakes, they were outstanding.
Definitely a well run restaurant with great chef and staff. Thanks!
Great spot in LJ just a couple of blocks from the beach. Off the main path, so I love it. We went there for lunch, they have a gluten free menu (love), we all had different salads and they were outstanding. The people dining with me said the bread was amazing. They had two of their specially blended juices and I tasted both, very good, very fresh. The service was also very good.
This is a favorite neighborhood restaurant in LJ Shores that never fails to please. The pizza is always perfect! The salads wonderful to share! The pasta with lemon cream sauce is to die for! We were really too full for dessert but decided to split one. The one we choose was not our best choice. It was made with apples and caramel but had a rather saw dust concoction mixed in. I am sure that any other dessert would have been a better choice for it was the only thing I have ever ordered there that was not perfect.
We always enjoy going to Piatti's. The food is consistently fresh and prepared well. The variety of dishes is good. The ambiance is cozy and relaxed. The service is very good. The staff are welcoming. The restaurant is clean. The neighborhood is pleasant and relaxed with no chain eateries. The bar is appealing. The optional outdoor under-the-stars eating area is lovely.
Too bad as this is one of our favorite regular spots and we drive 26 miles each way to get to it. Had a server that practiced taking orders from memory. Had to return shortly after taking the order to reconfirm one of the entrees. Missed an app (ordered 3 received 2). When entrees were dropped I told the server that we wouldn’t be needing our salad course. Response was, “Oh, you ordered salads?” There is a reason why orders should be written down and then recited back so there is no missed communication. Asked for water service, not received until apps arrived and on two occasions the server would watch us pick up the water bottle to refill our glasses and not offer to poor. Had to ask for bread service when apps arrived. Told bread was being made, nice but tables that sat far after us had their bread. Small things if individual but add them up they make a big difference. Server noticed my displeasured demennor and offered a comp dessert to make up for the shortfalls but at that time just wanted out.
Have been going to Piatti's for decades and love it since it is nearby, and the food and ambiance always good. However usually eat outside... That said, Last Saturday, because it was cool, got a table inside... Big mistake, the restaurant was jammed, and so noisy we couldn't hear each other talk.... We ate quickly and left,,, Would be nice if they could somehow reengineer the rooms to make them quieter when the crowds come.
The food and the service was spectacular, and not terribly expensive for fancy Italian food. My only complaint is that I made reservations for a business dinner and they sat us right next to the kitchen, so it was difficult to hear eachother and conduct business. I was not expecting the restaraunt to be so loud and busy on a Wednesday.
