About Piatti - La Jolla
A tradition to many La Jollans, this Italian bistro serves fresh authentic regional Italian cuisine. A landmark Ficus tree takes up one corner of their very popular patio, but the bright and cheerful dining room is delightful during the day or on those chilly evenings when it’s too cold to sit outside. The menu is presented in an innovative and creative fashion offering a wide variety of pastas, pizza and grilled items. In addition, you may find many vegetarian and health conscious dishes. Brunch is served on Saturday and Sunday and includes specialties such as Uovo Benedetto (Eggs Benefits served on grilled polenta with basil hollandaise) along with omelets and breakfast pizzas.

Piatti - La Jolla Ratings and Reviews
If you are gluten free, PLEASE BE AWARE IF YOU ORDER PASTA. I have been here 3 times and every time order the same thing. Each and EVERY time, they serve me regular pasta. I have to ask “this is gluten free, right?” And the food runner will always say, “oh this is supposed to be gluten free?” So, please double check ALWAYS! One clue is that the gf pasta is penne- if you get another shape, it is regular pasta. The restaurant really needs to be more careful... I worry for people who did not check, or who come here. Overall, the food is fine. It’s the better option for Italian that I have found so far in La Jolla, but it’s nothing too exciting. It’s also very expensive for the portion sizes. So, the price with the overall food taste may not be worth it.
My boyfriend and I went for an early date the night before Valentine's Day, and although the bread and drinks were fantastic, overall the food was disappointing. Piatti was expensive for us (~$20-$30 per entree, ~$15 for appetizers) and even though the food was okay, we definitely didn't think it was worth the price. I ordered a shrimp pasta and the shrimps were extremely overcooked to the point that they were tough and chewy, and my boyfriend's food was unevenly salty so he would take one completely bland bite and one salty bite. We complained to the waitress and she offered to take the food back to the kitchen to have it remade, but we didn't think it would be worth the time. We ate inside at a table and it kind of felt like eating inside a model house. I wouldn't recommend this place for the price or ambience.
Everything was great! They even made specially printed menus that matched our anniversary, which I indicated when making reservations through the app. I did not request this verbally, so we were very pleasantly surprised.
Food was amazing, and at very affordable prices. I was expecting the bill to be at least 30% higher, especially because we were dining in La Jolla.
Service was also great, very attentive but not annoying.
We were seated very promptly, so from start to finish, we had a great experience. We’ll definitely be going back soon!
My husband and I have been coming to Piatti to celebrate our anniversary for a couple of years now. We went there with our family after eloping, then returned the next two anniversaries. Our anniversary falls on Valentine’s week, so I understand restaurants are very busy. This time, our server was clearly rushing us out. She checked on us far too often, kept taking our plates away, and when she dropped off the check, kept coming by to pick it up when we weren’t even ready. I was still sipping my wine and trying to enjoy the ambiance. It honestly ruined our experience and we are going to try to find a new tradition. I’m so sad about this considering it was our tradition.
We had a very enjoyable early Sunday dinner at Piatti. The food was delicious, the patio was lovely at sunset and the service was friendly and efficient. The only slightly odd factor was that there was no fresh fish on the regular menu, only one item on the daily specials. But the pasta with shrimp (I substituted grilled chicken) was to die for, as was the caulifower cake appetizer. I ordered to reasonably priced glasses of Pinot grigio that were served perfectly chilled. All in all, a lovely dining experience and with an appetizer and two drinks each, out the door for just under $100. Not bad.
The menu offered lots of yummy sounding food but once the food arrived at our table we were very disappointed. The breading was stale, the risotto was bland, the olives were incredibly salty, and the salad was nothing but romaine lettuce with a drizzle of dressing ... no hearts of palm! My husband and I rarely go out to eat we are very health conscious Foodies. This was not the place for us.
Had been to Piatti a couple years back while visiting family in San Diego. Once again, this restaurant did not disappoint. The food was excellent and our server, Justine, was helpful, attentive and good humored. Well worth the visit if you're in or near La Jolla.
I wish I had caught our waiter's name as he was beyond excellent. He was Italian with endless patience for 3 older gals with split checks, lingering at table that should have turned and he was very nice to boot. I have Celiac which is never fun for a restaurant to accommodate. They have a GF menu (YAY!) and GF pasta. My meal was fabulous. House-made Italian sausage with a spicy tomato sauce.
Always a favorite restaurant has become even better!
We were given a gift card to Piatti for Christmas, what an excellent gift this turned out to be. The hostess was very cordial and accommodating with us being late for our reservation. We were seated at a nice private table and enjoyed a wonderful meal, from appetizer to dessert. Great ambiance and the server was very attentive and pleasant. We will visit again!!
Piatti's offers a relaxed environment to gather with friends. The patio is charming and an excellent match with the wide-ranging menu. The quality of the food is always terrific. My friend and I had just the right amounts for lunch, splitting a Caesar salad and a pizza.
even though I'd made a birthday reservation and the menu said Happy Birthday, the server was brusque and never brought a birthday dessert. When I wrote the manager he basically said "sorry, hope we're better next time."
Glare from cars out front was uncomfortable...service was indifferent, not like it used to be.
Disappointing, and we'd been going there for years.
We were there at peak dining time and the noise was awful! We almost had to shout to each other. No chance to have a 4 way conversation.
I do not understand why there can’t be something done to lessen the noise. I would go more often with friends but the noise makes me think about it.
Love your restaurant and have been coming to you for many years. Monday night we had a waiter that was very challenging and abrupt. Kept spilling water every time he poured. And ended up spilling our coffee for 3 if us and actually spilled coffee on someone’s hand. Kept apologizing and brought new saucers. But was way too sloppy and felt rushed by him. When we had questions about the menu he seemed to be annoyed. Thought you would want to get feedback.
Went here based on Yelp reviews. We were staying in the neighborhood and I wanted to find a nice, romantic spot with great food. Piatti fit the bill perfectly. We sat inside in the main dining area. The ambiance was cozy. It was around 8 p.m. on a Sunday and there were a lot of diners but tables available. The patio, despite it being a cool night, was full. The waitress was friendly and professional and gave us suggestions and as much time as we needed with our menus. My fiance is a vegetarian and had no problem finding vegetarian options, including the tasty cauliflower and risotto cakes. I had an excellent carpccio, and linguini with seafood. Both were delicious with very fresh ingredients. Pasta was al dente and seafood cooked perfectly. They brought over a very good tiramisu with a candle (it was my fiance's birthday dinner) on the house. All in all, a great dining experience. Definitely recommend if you are staying in La Jolla Shores (or nearby). We'll be back!
Our favorite place in La Jolla! We drive down from Orange County periodically for an overnight getaway and without fail, we go to Piatti for dinner. We look forward to it between trips. Food is amazing. Ambiance is great! Wish it was down the street from my house so I could eat pasta everyday!
