   Visiting from NY and found this highly rated establishment. Walked in and it stated, sit where you want. Despite the sign I was told to eat in a cramped corner. We ordered quickly and asked few questions. We mentioned we were from out of town and as I embark on a day of tourism, I hope San Fran residents are nicer than the server. First course came. Food was good. Then second course, no clean silverware, and no cleaning of the table. Then we are about to order deserts and the check was thrown at us. We had a 930 reservation and done at 10 26. I guess it was too late for a restaurant who contends to be open until 1 am. I would give the food a better rating but the service put a bad taste in my mouth.

   Ideal spot for a business dinner where you want to be able to easily have conversations and your client is more interested in conversation & good food vs wanting to be bought a high end $200/pp type dinner. Great spot!

   We had a wonderful meal prior to a play at the Curran. They had great wines by the glass, and all the small plates we ordered were delicious. Hope to be back soon.

   This place is a hidden gem! To my surprise, there were hardly any people eating dinner there on a Saturday night. I think the only reason is because it's inside a hotel, so you can't see it from the street (there is a sign). The food was amazing, and yes I'm an SF foodie, and would consider myself a harsh critic. I think this place had a perfect vibe, chill, hip, eclectic light fixtures & decor, all without being pretentious. Our server was really nice, and made us feel like we were right at home. The food was wonderful and unexpected. The artichoke was delicious, the flat bread was very flat, which I love since I'm trying to be low carb. The pesto angelhair pasta with crab and prawns was obviously not low carb but scrumptious. Will definitely go back!

   Table was not ready for seating (although a number of tables were empty). Waited at the bar to be served a beer (10min). Then waited another 15 min at the table for someone to take a food order. The halibut was over cooked. Servers were very polite, but not as attentive or available as one might expect for a 3/4 full restaurant.

   Another wonderful meal at Phlox Comons. The fresh catch of the day - halibut with chimchurri tapenade and cauliflower was one of the best dishes I have ever had. It perfectly paired with the Savignon Blanc offered by the glass. We look forward to returning soon.

   We are always up for trying a new place. We found Phlox Commons on OpenTable. After reading the reviews, along with what was available on the menu, we decided to make a reservation. Upon first impression the space looked a little spare. Do not let that put you off. The food is sensational. We had the Dungeness crabcakes which were served with a side salad with sliced apples. So good! The Caesar salad was wonderful as well. The main course, pesto with shrimp and crab was delightful. We even got grilled bread. We shared a chocolate stout cake for dessert. The service was efficient and we felt very well taken care of. The hotel itself offers live music and wine in the evenings from 5:30 to 6:30 PM. We enjoyed a little jazz before going into dinner. We will definitely go back...And we are bringing friends.

   Phlox is a total hidden gem of a restaurant. I am not one to normally dine in my hotel restaurant but I am SO glad I tried this place. The food is great - creative and fresh selections - however the service is what puts this restaurant over the top. Ryan (manager?) went out of his way, on multiple occasions, to take care of me - offer suggestions, provide samples and just make me feel like family. Come enjoy a meal here - you will love the service and the food.

    A cozy spot that's great for groups; got dinner with about 8 in the party at 8pm on a Saturday, about 1/2 full, but energetic/fun. Good beer/wine selection and an attentive staff. Good amount on the menu to please many tastes.
