Phillips Seafood & Steak
This new restaurant is still trying to figure out how to succeed at DC brunch. Menu descriptions far exceeded execution of dishes, service was lackadaisical if not inattentive. Perhaps the curse of the 15th and P address will live on; hopefully Phillip’s will last longer than its predecessors...
Once seated a large group of about 20+ people were seated next to us. We ended up asking to be moved to a different section of the restaurant and that made a whole of difference.
We were a party of 4. Waitress was friendly. Service was OK at first but food didn’t come out all at once and we had a long wait to get the rest of the order. Food was ok, nothing great. Never got water refilled, plates from appetizers were not cleared, and we had to ask repeatedly for clean silverware and steak knives. Considering how pricey the appetizers and steaks are, the food and service should be better. Waitress knew things were screwed up but didn’t do anything about it. Won’t go back. I think this location is cursed. It’s better than Tortilla Coast, but not by much.
Biscuits were dry.
Service was slow.
Food was basic.
Absolutely LOVED everything about Phillips Seafood. The service was excellent and the food...OMG! From the moment we walked in till we left, we felt like family. Everyone was friendly, funny and attentive without being overbearing. I wish there was one in Vegas. Thank you!
Our waiter Storm was excellent and attentive. The manager is always warm and welcoming. The food is the best! Glad to have Phillips Seafood & Steak in the neighborhood. Great addition!
I really must say, this was a positive experience and not the most expensive, either. The pescatore was quite good, as were their scallops. The crab cakes are truly in a league of their own. Only a larger portion could have improved them. I have no criticisms.
I understand the soft open but I don’t have faith the restaurant will ever be good. The only good thing about the experience was the waitress was kind. To start, the restaurant is in a bizarre location. Just around the corner is Le Diplomate, Logan Tavern, Ghibellina — good restaurants that attract locals. Who in Logan or DuPont is going to hang out at Phillips? Unfortunately, my friend wanted to try it out.
I ordered Lobster Bisque to start and it never came. I saw my main course ready to go and the waitress came over and told me both the bisque and main course would be right out. I told her I no longer wanted to bisque. The purpose of an appetizer is getting it before the main course — not together.
Additionally the main course — burger with crab cake in top — was sloppy and hard to eat. The blend tasted lower quality than McDonalds and the mixture of sweet potato and regular fries was a poor side — give the customer the choice. The slaw was putrid.
The restaurant also didn’t have Coca Cola products but instead had Pepsi — which is awful. Pepsi, in my opinion, is what cheap chains carry — very fitting I guess.
Will never go back to Phillips, even though that was my first time. The owners or investors should have done market research because I promise you it won’t be open in a year from now. Why go to Phillips, when Joes is a mile away?
Our server, Taylor, was extraordinary!
The food and service was excellent.
We enjoyed some happy hour specials
Although they had to re-fire a steak, it ended up perfect. The fish and chips was great, as are the desserts. Friendly, accommodating staff. Great addition to this neighborhood!
They recenlty opened at this location, and the staff was very welcoming. The selection and presentation, along with the quality of the food, was excellent.
Don’t want to come bk I ordered a stake sandwich the stake was on one side and all cheese on the other side I don’t know what that was about . Them I ordered regular fries it was kind of hard to get because they were not on the menu either they had cheese on them or mixed with sweet potatoes but I got them and was charged $8 which was crazy
First time here, wont be the last...
Great happy hour specials! Friendly staff and fun vibe
My friends and I celebrated my birthday for lunch. This restaurant just opened for lunch and is sparkling new with chandeliers and mirrors. Weldon excellently took care of us giving us soup samples and celebrating my birthday with cheesecake. We all enjoyed the food and are looking forward to our next visit.
Food is good, branzini had many small bones, hard to eat. Will order something else next time.
We dinned here just severs days after they opened doors. Everyone was trying very hard to make us welcomed. I finally had to say to the 5th person that stopped to ask how everything was, “everything is fine, but we would like now to eat and have some privacy”. Bronzino was yummy with veggies that were grilled just right, salad that came with crab cakes was a bit greasy, beats salad was fine. And surprisingly, the noise level was not high. We will be back to try other items on the menu.
