For me it was too loud. I couldn’t hear my friend talk I usually go earlier when the music isn’t turned up so high. If the music is always that loud after 9 I’d probably go to another spot and save it for earlier dinners
Just too noisy from other diners at nearby table, made intolerable by silly music playing too loud in the background. So, it was impossible for two people, sitting across a small table, to hold a conversation. It may be "energetic" but on this occasion it was impossible, and we left without ordering. Please disregard the food ratings, as we did not order, but I couldn't submit without checking something.
Great chicken satay😍 love the place and really recommend it. A bit pricey though!
Awesome experience, food was amazing as always.
Shrimp dumpling appetizer was bland. Entree was nothing special like i'd hope.
Great service & amazing food. Can’t wait to go back!
The service, food and ambience were amazing. I was seated in the upstairs room and its was nice and cozy. The food was delicious and fresh. I definitely recommend this place for any asian food lovers.
Quick service and outstanding food! My family and I have been going here for years and it just keeps getting better!
great food and service. sat in the wine cellar, very good experience.
Philippe was great, beautiful decor, food was delicious, however the tables were too close... I did not feel comfortable talking to my girlfriend because the people to my left and right could hear ever word..
The food was outstanding. However, we made a 3pm reservation and when we arrived at 3, we were told we wouldn’t be seated till our full party was together, as my husband was parking the car. We were welcome to sit at the bar, which we did and before the drinks were poured, we were told our table was ready but we need to order immediately because they would be closing the kitchen at 3:30 to prepare for dinner. They reminded us every three minutes until we put our order in. I had to call my husband to read him the menu while he parked in a lot and walked over.
1. They shouldn’t be taking reservations at 3pm if they’re closing the kitchen at 3:30.
2. They never called to confirm the reservation. They should have, and advised us of the kitchen closing so early. We would have been able to move our reservation to an earlier time and not felt so rushed.
Everything was delicious. EVERYTHING.
But the service left a lot to be desired.
The house mignon was everything !!! & the fried rice was to die for definitely coming back .
A+++ Spare ribs were great ...dumpling sampler was also good....chicken lettuce wraps were not the best...overall a good spot.
Philippe always has fresh, delicious food and the three course lunch was perfect for the four of us. We have been dining here for over 8 years and always have good reason to return.
Food was very good, however probably didn’t justify the price. My only criticism is they pack the tables as close together as possible so you don’t have any privacy.
I went there after a very long time. the crowd, the ambience and the service had all changed. I think its more mediocre now. it used to be a bit higher level of service and rather quieter. Im not sure why it feels different now.
Good food and service
Were excited for a great Chinese Restaurant. We ordered a Kung Pao chicken and another sweeter dish. Both tasted exactly the same and it was 100 percent chicken and no added vegetables. The Chicken Satay was good . I assume their Duck too. A little dissapointed.
The shared Crispy Duck with house made pancakes was delicious. We would have liked a few more pancakes but the waiter never checked back with us mid meal. There was way more duck than pancakes. We ordered the vegetable fried rice and so we added some of the duck to it. The rice was just OK but became greatly enhanced when we added duck to it. The atmosphere in the dining room is quite uninteresting - bland comes to mind. The outer lounge is more interesting. Our dinner arrived very promptly. My wine was good but way overpriced. There are probably much better Chinese restaurant options available in NYC but this served our needs very well on this particular day.
Great food. Best in the city!
The tastiest Chinese food ever!!
Crispy seaweed my favorite
we orders it twice
As an avid diner in the city here was my bad experience. My reservation was not properly recorded via open table and marked as a no show. At the bar there were children sitting there taking up space for adults. I stood at the bar and nobody acknowledged me. The bar area is very tight with little room to pass through. I had to get the bartenders attn. he didn’t place a drink napkin before, during or after I received my drink, I fetched it myself. A glass of Reisling was 24 dollars I felt ripped off and neglected as a patron. Food and waiter was good. I won’t return or recommend. Thank you!
Food is mediocre and overpriced. The Chicken Satay is distasteful . The dumplings were bland. The Peking duck was the only resemblance of a decent dish. Drinks were overpiced. Overall a horrible dining experience.
A family favorite
I hate the tables are so close together and you can hear what the person next to you is saying.
Environment is good. However, the Chinese food is not original, for Chinese like me, it’s quite wired, neither Chinese nor Western.
The duck was super!
If not the service, would have returned there once a week
The food was good not great.
Went here for Peking Duck on Christmas Day. Seated upstairs in the front room - it was perfect (downstairs seemed very noisy).
Everything was fabulous from our waiter (his suggestions were spot on), to the food, and did not feel rushed at all even though it was a busy day.
Pretty good, but not authentic Chinese, very much a westernised compromise.
We also felt rushed with food arriving very quickly suggesting it was not completely freshly cooked. Still all OK and a nice meal overall, if a little too expensive for the food and overall experience. & $250.00 for three adults and two children.
Food was amazing. Unfortunately the hostess was a downer. Rude and not very nice. Tried to give us worst table in the house after spending large amount of money at the bar. She almost ruined a wonderful evening. The food was excellent.
The “head” waiter was rude. He never asked if we would like anything to drink, just Came over and asked for our order. It was our first time eating there. He was blowing his nose standing right behind our table. Disgusting!!
The food is always perfect, I eat here every time I come to NYC
Great service, amazing food five star all around. I will most definitely be back
Place has been great for the past 10 years but this time it was horrible the food was cold and taste really bad
Honestly don’t know what the hype is about. The food is mediocre my Chinese food store on the corner in the hood taste better than this.
It's always an amazing time and the service and food are beyond expectations. Cannot wait until I go again. The food is unbelievably delicious and definitely worth the price.
Very good service, food and attention. Everything was awesome
We have been to Phillipe many times over the years but this last visit was terrible. They forgot to bring several appetizers, when they did they forgot to bring the sauces that go with them. The tea was so strong it was bitter tasting. The food tasted stale, almost as if it was ready hours before it was served. The filet mignon was cold and dry. We could not believe how much this place has deteriorated since last few months. Disappointing to the least.
Excellent service. Great food.
