Philippe Ratings and Reviews
What got me interested in this place is the large numbers of young black celebs that have name dropped or taken pics at this place. I was always curious then a coworker raves about the food.
The food is good but it is essentially seriously marked up Chinese food so I give and take credit away at the same time in this category.
The tables are tight, but it’s NY so you’re used to it. The waiter was helpful and very polite. We enjoyed the night out as parents of two kids under 10 years old, but for the price of food ($180 for two for two entrees, two fruity drinks and one dessert) and parking around 60th street ($50), this ain’t a great deal. Go to Delfrisco’s, Homestead, ABC Kitchen, BUDDAKAN, or Maestro’s and get a fancier interior, higher end food choices, closer to the theater district or Radio City, for just about the same price.
Today I dined for the lunch special which is offered Monday -Saturday 12-3:30pm. Oh my it was so good. I started with the chicken satay for appetizer, then moved to the crispy beef for the main course. When I tell you that crispy beef was crispy with a great sauced on top. So So So good. Rice portion size is a bit small for my liking but i had enough rice to go with my beef. Dessert was coconut ice-cream with a warm brownie. I can't remember the name of the drink but if you like belvedere coconut and pomegranate they have something so delicious for you. I will definitely be back!!!
I have been eating at this establishment since I was 11 years old, approximately 10 years and every dining experience has been very memorable and Philippe has always been a must stop during my monthly trips into the city. My first time dining at Philippe for 2018 was the exact opposite. The staff was very attentive, friendly and outgoing and took extremely good care of my best friend and I. The food was out of this world as usual and I am happy that things are back to normal. Will definitely be back more often now! :-)
Three courses of really good food for $28 is really a bargain. We also ordered spare ribs and fried rice which we took home, and together with our left overs from lunch, had a lovely dinner the following night as well. Although we didn't have it this time, we love the Peking Duck.
It was okay I went for my boyfriend’s birthday. The food was okay nothing special the dessert was beautiful the display was good. But I wish my server was more attentive to us as he was to everyone else. I kept having to have the busser call him. Even closing out our bill another sever had to assist us. My overall experience was okay. This is not a restaurant where I would rush to come back to or suggest to anyone in my honest opinion.
Picked this resataurant to celebrate my fiancé’s birthday on Sunday. He had wanted to go years ago so we finally went as a group of 7. By far some of the worst service I have ever received. The waiter which I never caught his name (Russian with hair slicked back) was an absolute nightmare. He was rude and super abrasive in handling us. We were rushed and told we had to place our complete order when he came to the table because “it’s a super busy night”. Mind you like I said it was a Sunday and there were empty tables. Not sure if it was a culture thing but he doesn’t seem to belong in the service industry. Food was not great either and it might be because we were so disguisted with his behavior that we all lost our appetites. He was even rude to his coworkers and kept berating them in front of everyone seated in our area. At one point we had to ask one of them if he was the manager or their boss. I honestly would never go back to this restaurant. Even though Derek who I assume is the manager of the place came over after my sister complained it still was a very uncomfortable situation and I would much rather spend my money where I am celebrated and not tolerated. At the end of the night the couple seated next to us said they experienced the same thing and were very disappointed also. Sad.
Celebrated my birthday on a Saturday for dinner. Had a great time!! The cotton candy cake presentation was amazing. Cake itself is just ok. On the pricey side but good. Also their portions are large. If they say the entree can feed 2 people, it really can feed 3 people.
