Petty Cash Taqueria & Bar
Walter Manzke's Petty Cash is a semi-authentic taqueria with myriad talent drawn from East LA, Baja and beyond. Petty Cash's menu features re-conceptualized street food classics driven by the best local, seasonal ingredients, rooted in multi-generational tradition and technique.
Featuring urban elements such as hand-painted murals by local street artist RETNA and picnic style tables and bench seating which lend to a relaxed and playful communal dining experience. The street art meets street food vibe channels the spirit of Tijuana circa 1986 meets modern day LA. The equally spirited cocktail program features unique craft cocktails on draft and eclectic Mexican spirits.

This was not my first visit to Petty Cash and I went with a group of friends to celebrate a birthday. NONE of us could hear anything said at the table due to the LOUD BLARING MUSIC, at a level way beyond what is tolerable. Several other friends who had been there before have said they would not return because of the noise level. Trust me, I go to loud restaurants all the time, but this was really unpleasant. By the end of the meal, all we wanted to do was to exit. The food and service were terrific, but not planning on returning unfortunately.
I love everything about it except for the music is way too loud you can’t even talk
Great food & drinks!
Birthday celebration. Staff was wonderful and sliced the cake we brought.
ONLY downside was music way too loud. Was perfect level when we arrived at 6. At 6:15. It got cranked up. Asked two different staff about lowering, no change.
Appreciated the wonderful vegetarian options. They were fantastic!
This was first time here and it definitely was "energetic". It took a bit getting use to as the crowd was definitely a younger crowd and knew this is not the place if you want to carry on a conversation and be heard. The food was excellent as was the service and I definitely would come back. The music was varied as to musical taste, some hip hop, country, rap, etc. Don't expect to hear Bach , Beethoven or even Mozart. The music really does contribute to making this a very lively place which probably accounts for it's popularity along with the quality and creativity of the dishes and great and friendly service.
Portion was small and price was expensive.
we went for brunch cuz i loved the mural on the outside :)
great mescal drink, great huevos rancheros and nice/ helpful waitress.
i will go back.
Went to Petty Cash Tacqueria to celebrate a special occasion and to explore DineLA. The environment inside the restaurant is noisy and the tables are very close together. The main dining area has picnic bench seating and high bar tops. Not the type of environment you would expect for a mid to expensive restaurant. For $39/person, you get guacamole and chips, a ceviche, a choice of two tacos, a dessert to share and a margarita. Not too bad, but still a bit pricey. The ceviche is on the spicy side, so if you do not like spice, you should ask for a modulation. Do not think we would go back during non DineLA times as the menu is way overpriced for what you get.
The food here is creative, interesting, and consistently delicious, and the drinks are too (alcoholic and non-alcoholic alike) - plus, they have very good coffee. Highly recommended for the weekend brunch.
Good service and food.
Packed and great
This is a fun reastaurant. Some of the seating us casual - shared table. Food is tasty, high end versions of tacos and quesadillas. Ambiance and decor are also very fun. Full bar.
Great and very nice server. Would come back.
The food was absolutely terrible , it even got me sick at night and I’m going to call to complain. Far too expensive for just mediocre food and environment- won’t be coming back to say the least and someone is going to get chewed up for the sour food that upset my stomach. DO NOT GO
Completely overpriced. Food portions are insultingly small. Drinks are decent but small, overpriced and watered down. Theme and ambience are great, but that’s it and it’s not enough to want to go back. Any other taco joint in town is a better option where you won’t get ripped off.
Fun place with great food. The happy hour prices are much more agreeable. It has a great selection of Mezcal, but the waitress and the bartender didn't give us any clues when we were ordering.
Petty Cash is great! Has fantastic food, drinks, and service.
Very light spirit pours I thought I was in Utah. Besides the skimpy drinks the food is pretty good.
Perfect for big group!
Always a great experience - staff is always super friendly and attentive, and food is always so good!
Fun place to celebrate the holidays with friends. Polite and attentive service. Tasty food with a moderate a number of choices. This was my second time there. I’ll go back and recommend it to friends. Bill was about $130 before tip for appetizers, dinner and drinks for 3 ppl.
If you haven't tried Petty Cash for brunch yet. GO! Food is amazing.
Thanks for the great review! -Kenny
This place is beast! Best tacos in LA
Yes! Thanks for the great comments. See you next time! -Kenny
Great food -- love the revolving taco ingredients. Great service. Asked for a seat near the window and they seated us near the window. Always like coming here.
Thanks for the great comments Vaughn! Looking forward to seeing you next time. -Kenny
Great spot for a
No one came to take our order for 15 minutes and then they where quite rude about it. Quite disappointing
Love the unique tacos and variety of veggie options! Fun environment and great cocktails!
Tasty food, Creative and Delicious Cocktails, Fantastic Service, Great VIBE and clientele make for a great experience. Pricey for small sized tacos but otherwise a nice treat.
Great, unique food! Awesome tequila drinks! Plates are small, but you're full after only one or two! A really fun place to go!
Great neighborhood restaurant! Delicious food and drinks, a little pricier than the average "Mexican" restaurant. Nice indoor/outdoor atmosphere. If you want cheap Mex food, go to the next block.
We had a terrific time! Great food, excellent service, clean bathrooms, and top notch entertainment. If I lived locally, I'd definitely be a regular.
Our view of the entertainment was very poor! We were seated at a bench table and in front of us were High top tables which hindered our view. Suggestion: put the High Top tables toward the back and the low bench tables in the front, that way everyone has a view. The food was VERY overpriced for the amount received. $6 per taco and they were the size of street tacos with very little meat. $5 for a Diet Coke bottle that was the size of a mini bottle. No domestic beer what so ever, and not many choices at that. Their mix drinks were the size of a “high ball glass.” No regular tall glasses. The service was ok. Our waitress was extremely friendly and very attentive. But, not sure I’ll ever go back there to eat. Sorry.
I thought the sound level was too noisy. Also, though we reserved in advance, we were given seats in the general area at shared wooden tables with really uncomfortable chairs. When I asked whether a more comfortable booth was available, they told us no. But I think there may have been one available. Finally, one cocktail that I ordered tasted way too bitter. When they noticed I wasn't drinking it (to their credit) they offered to change it, but they said that it was made the way it should have been. I don't think so - I've had the same thing before there, and it was better. So my impression was that the service was rushed, although they were trying. The food's always good here - I just wish the pace wasn't so hectic and that the mood and setting was more relaxed. It comes off as a really hype version of relaxed - not the real relaxed vibe they are advertising.
Great food, great vibe and the music was off the chain. Go DJ!
The cauliflower nachos were really good, however, the tacos were weird, and had too many different ingredients. The michelada was also not good. It was too expensive for the amount of food and the quality of food.
Love petty cash
I think it is great that restaurants are offering their employees health care benefits but feel that it is tacky to add a percentage onto your total bill to pay for it. Just increase your prices by that percentage instead. I don't care if there is a menu item that is $12.99 or $13.38.
i really like Petty Cash. the food is terrific, great energy and the server always has great personal recommendations. Noise level was high so it was a bit difficult to hear a conversation but overall really terrific.
The place is great! The food is fantastic and so is their service. However they have over charges that show up on your bill and I happened to read them and even though the menu says one price. It is different on the bill. They have a charge for some kind of service fee and it even though it is like $5.00 They should alway let the customer know about it and not hide it and make it clear why.
