Petite Violette Ratings and Reviews
This place is a bit old fashioned and geared toward an older crowd. Most people were over 60. Guess that explained why the place closed at 9:30 on a Saturday.
We expected a bit better service (there seemed to be no real hostess to seat us). The duck, when we asked for medium rare, came closer to medium well.
Nice to see the traditional French food (Violettes) and some German food (Petite Auberge). I appreciate having a high quality restaurant in the neighborhood. Two nice, long standing restaurants combined in one place. Best wishes for a long run.

Had dinner for the NYE 2018... food was really good even if the menu was preset for NYE...many options to choose...lobster bisque was creamy, lamb lollipop were great, beef Wellington really well presented and the Fruits de Mer was totally awesome...tarte aux pommes was dry and hard to cut but the bread pudding was delicious...the customers are quite in their senior years w average of 60...so not sure if it’s good for young people but we wanted a low key place w good food
Every dish was quite horrible. The former Violette had awesome food. The former Auberge had awesome food. This time the whole dining experience was totally unpleasant. Food was not tasteful and seemed to be prepared in advance and was neither hot nor cold. Tepid is not a good formula for a good meal. My steak was not prepared to order. The waitress was as bland as the food. She seemed serving was a chore, and she had no personality - even though we left a very generous tip.
Both my husband and I said during the meal and after we got home that we will never eat at Violette's again. Not for the extraordinary price for good food. We have eaten at chic, up-scale restaurants in 15 different countries. We do not mind paying good prices for good food. We considered leaving Violette's the minutes we sat down. How we wish that we had done so!
No apologies are in order. Perhaps the restaurant should be closed and start over again with new personnel and a new menu. We have already recommended to friends and work colleagues that they should never make reservations for the restaurant. Donc, ce n'est pas de restaurant français. C'est un mélange de n'importe quoi!
Food was excellent, waiter was excellent, vocalist with guitar had beautiful voice but, we were as far from her as you can get so could not hear her well. She had only one large speaker so tables close to her had to tell her to turn down the volume and we wanted it higher. Recommend the restaurant hire an acoustic specialist to locate numerous speakers thought out the restaurant so that all guest can enjoy her talent at a nice volume suitable for background music.
Their French food is always reliable and just good (entrees tend to be more expensive $18-30 since it is a more formal sit-down restaurant). The service is also always very good and they have valet parking. They have live music which is great except sometimes it's a bit loud or no one is clapping, so that can feel a bit awkward. But it's a really great neighborhood restaurant!
Overall atmosphere was nice but the quality of the food was average. I am originally from France , so I was expecting delicious prenium food. I was very disappointed. Apetizers ( cured meat and cheese) were so so and my steak frites was so so as well. My boyfriend had the coq au vin which was very basic in term of taste and flavor.
The food is always very consistent. The special quiche was good as was the grilled salmon. We got a good table near the front and in a quieter part of the restaurant. The only distraction is the noise level when other groups are present. Like most restaurants these days could use a little more padding to muffle sounds.
