We love Petit Robert, and have been fans for years. So sorry to see them closing their doors, but I will be right there, at the "Press", and where & whenever else Jay desires to open another full scale restaurant.
You have 'til mid Dec to discover this authentic French gem before they consolidate their energies at the French Press, if you haven't already been. Loads of good memories and meals!
Fantastic service and great menu! Really enjoyed our night. The menu has a nice array of choices. I had the steak frites and frites were amazing while the steak was good./ok. My husband had the duck which was prepared very nicely but the sauce was underwhelming.
We took a leap of faith and decided we wanted to eat French - not many places exist that are as authentic. Very impressed and will definitely go again as there are at least 4 dishes we wanted to try. Waitress friendly and attentive - we didn't have time for dessert (unfortunately). A place to linger and enjoy the food - as is true of real French bistros. We love France
My husband an I were celebrating my birthday. I ordered the rack of lamb and the waiter asked how would you like it? I replied pink inside given each chef has a slightly different opinion what is medium rare. He gave me a dirty look with no reply and asked my husband what he wanted. It came out brown ... well done. My mashed potatoes were way over the top with truffle taste. It also came with a side of braised mushrooms that tasted burnt. In fact I wasn't sure what it was. I left very disappointed and felt like we wasted our money. We were one of three tables. Should have known when we walked in. I rated fair to be fair as my husband liked his Cordon Blu dish. Crème Brule had a smooth egg custard with no vanilla flavor. Again just fair.
We go to Petit Robert about 3-4 times a year and always enjoy it. Tables for two are very small, but otherwise no real complaints. Food is good and appropriate for a bistro meal. We always leave there feeling that we have been well treated and had good food.
Hadn't been in a while. Menu has expanded nicely. Service was OK. Friendly but hard to get their attention and not attentive (distracted). Food wasn't bad but does not warrant the prices charged. IN this price range there are many better places. Also, presentation was not great. Curious.
Very disappointed! We went to this restaurant once a while but this time is very disappointed about the food. My husband ordered the daily special dish, swordfish, the portion is so tiny and fishy which costed$31 for main dish. While we were eating, we saw the family sat next to us ordered same dishes as us, their fishes portions are over doubles than us. Meanwhile, my dish, french fries tasted was old and over cooked, but the other table theirs looked fresh and you could tell from the color. Anyway, the restaurant is very poor for quality control. If you are unlucky like us, you will feel the same as well.
This restaurant is notable for the food. It is authentic French cuisine. The quality of both the food and the service is far greater than would be expected in a neighborhood place - more reminiscent of a big city gem. From the appetizers through the main course to the desserts the food is high quality and excellently prepared. Hot foods are really hot and are served as soon as they leave the stove. My escargots needed to cool off before I could risk burning my mouth.
I had dined here before, but my daughter had not and she was impressed. The portions are large, but not excessively so, and our meals were excellent from start to finish. The service is as good as the food. This is not a glamorous place, but the prices are moderate for the quality of the food and service. We will be back.
Four of us were there on a Monday night. The restaurant was not busy but there was only one wait staff who also served as the hostess for us. Service, especially from the kitchen, was very slow. The food was quite good and overall the experience was okay. The issue seemed to be a lack of staff on duty.
We have been here previously. Very consistent high quality food and service.
Pricey however you do get what you pay for.
The only unusual (for me) thing was we wanted to order appetizers and then place the entree order after we finished the apps.
The waiter explained the chef has instructed the staff not to do that. The apps and entrees must be ordered together. Not a big issue, just unusual from my point of view.
Will return for what I am sure will be another excellent dinner.
Petit Robert always comes through. In addition to succulent standard menu items that vary throughout the year there are always a few special dishes and wines to explore. The staff find the happy balance of professional yet warm service, and everyone keeps an eye on all of the tables. That not only improves responsiveness it also instills a feeling of teamwork, which is welcoming.
We had the trout almandine-perfection in brown butter with creamy potatoes and green beans and the monkfish special with mango relish. keep up the good work!
