Peter B's Brewpub Ratings and Reviews
My family and I (wife, 5 year old daughter and 1 year old son), found this place the other night when we stayed one night in Monterey. All of us really enjoyed it. The food was really good. I am a fan of craft beers and I really enjoyed the beer flight. You get to sample five different beers. They have several large, high definition TVs with sports games on. They also have big glass mugs for sale for $15 with their cool logo on them. This is a little bit pricey in my opinion, but I purchased one anyway. The service was pretty good. The manager was extremely friendly and the man who delivered our food to our table was as well. Our waitress was friendly, but I think she was having an off night.
Food and service was good. We were using a coupon we purchased online on TravelZoo. Coupon provided 2 apps, 2 entrees and 2 flights of beer. We took a couple of friends that ordered lower priced apps. Server deducted lower priced apps, not our more expensive apps. Server said higher priced items were deducted. After getting home we determined it was not so. Returned next day and complained. Manager made things right.
Delicious nachos! Almost everything on their menu is great and they have a great selection of beer. If you join their mug club, you get pints for $4.50, good deal if you enjoy drinking beer. Be careful if you are not a 49er fan though, patrons are not very welcoming of other teams' fans.
The staff at Peter B's are friendly and welcoming. The appetizers are delicious (fresh cod ceviche and crab cheese dip = yum) and the entrees come piled high. The patio has beckoning fire pits and the indoors are lined with televisions airing the popular games. Surprisingly, the place was not overbearingly loud for a sports bar, making it a nice spot for just about anyone.
Opentable saved me! FIFA USA Worldcup game of course they were packed! But handled it with ease, impressed.
they ran out of hefeweisen and my fav lighter beer! Soo... Perhaps that should be a very bad thing if they weren't so laid back.
beer brewing right in windows and smelled the mash-so yumm!
This place is godawful. The food was terrible, the beer was mediocre at best, and the waitstaff was a total mess. Definitely go here if you want to flag down waiters/hump a leg to have your order taken, eat overcooked food, and generally be treated like you don't exist.
The beer here is brewed by the restaurant which is always a nice touch. I enjoyed the flight I got, it wasn't amazing, but they presented a solid interpretation of the common beer types (IPA, amber, wit, stout, etc). None of the beers were bad or bland, which is often the case in a brewpub flight.
The food again was solid, but not amazing. It was mostly standard pub fair in terms of offerings and execution. I did appreciate the California twist (fried artichoke hearts, crab on pizza) and the food was fresh (my jalapeño poppers were made with really clean, fresh jalapeños, not frozen). Again, it's not gourmet, but the food is tasty, albeit a bit heavy.
My boyfriend and I had dinner here last week. It was obvious that we were from out of town because both of us were sporting our San Jose Sharks gear. The host noticed our black and teal, and he offered to sit us in a section with a tv and tuned in to the SHARKS HOCKEY game! We felt special and our host made our night.
It's hard to give this place a fair review. I do think the food is probably good. However, as a vegetarian I had ordered something without prawns, they brought it with prawns, then took it back, removed the prawns and just gave me the same dish. Not only did it leave my dish tasting fishy, but I was concerned for those in the same position with shellfish allergies. So, my experience was admittedly biased. The servers/kitchen did seem notably overwhelmed that night, and I think my concern confused them but they didn't get defensive about it, which is more than I can say for some other places.
I would try it again if we lived closer (we were there on a trip), because I did like the friendly ambiance, and the menu had other good-sounding options I could try.
Okay food, okay ambience. It's a brew pub and that's exactly what it felt like. The real issue was the service. The waitress started out fine, brought drinks and a starter and then completely disappeared for at least 20-30 minutes. No one came to check on us until we flagged someone down to ask if we could finish placing our order. To their credit, once her co-workers realized what was going on they were apologetic and scrambled to cover for her, but they couldn't keep up and frankly they shouldn't have had to. Then she reappeared and acted like nothing had happened; no acknowledgement of the service lapse and no apology..
Great food, wonderful service, superb beer. Best beer I've had since Henri Fink in Luxembourg back in my Army days of the 1960s. Tasty, mellow, and just plain wonderful.
A bit on the noisy side, but we were seated in the far corner away from most of the hubub. Very nice.
The great puzzlement is the need to decipher the check. There is a blank line labeled "tip," as is usual these days when one pays by credit card. The implication, of course, is that an amount should be submitted on that line for a tip. But a quick verification of the amounts shows that there is a line already bespeaking of a service charge to the tune of 15% already added to the check! Not cool at all!
Decent Brew Pub with an excellent selection of in-house Beers. Try the six glass flight - a bargain at $6:50 and some very interesting in- house brews with their seasonal Pumpkin brew especially good. Food nothing special - its a bar not a gourmet restaurant so if you keep that in mind you will not be disappointed. Service was a bit indifferent - took 20 minutes for the waiter to even notice we were there, but once I hunted him down he was quite attentive. We would go again just for the Beers - their dark full body beers (e.g. Resistance Stout) were as good as we have tasted anywhere.
Service was awful the only good thing was the beer. We were ignored, not sure if it was because we have a Travelzoo voucher which should not matter. They were not busy and our server only came around once. Others came to drop off our appetizers and meal. The garlic fries were soggy and greasy, yuk. The wings were ok. I ordered the burger the entire top of the bun just peeled off, the taste was ok, but the presentation was not.
I reconnected with some college friends, and could not be happier about the restaurant selection. It was moderately priced, and the food and drinks were a little more wonderful than I expected. We had a great table. It was just far enough that we had privacy, but not too far that we couldn't hear a little background noise. The server was attentive. The drinks and course we brought out accordingly. I would definitely recommend.
The best thing about Peter B's is that it was centrally located to walk around and see all the beautiful automobiles during Auto Week. Sadly, the food did not match the on-line menu, service was so-so but the food was decent. I had a friend with a Gluten allergy and they were at least able to accommodate his needs.
If you are looking for a place that serves "Pub Grub" but has a very good selection of beer then this is the place for you!
We got a coupon for $29 for 2 apps, 2 entrees, 2 beers. The selection of food was decent for a brewery, i believe they were in the $14 - $19 range for entrees, $8 - $12 for apps and $5.50 for their locally brewed beers. The beer was excellent, the food was excellent & the service was outstanding. The on shift manager brought our food out to us & our server was very friendly & helpful. We were staying at the Portola Hotel & Spa which is basically in the same building complex as the brewery, a short walk outside & to the left. Loved this location & how close it was to the Warf as well as the boutique shops & downtown areas. Definitely recommend you give this place a shot.
On our last trip to Monterey, we visited Peter B's twice in one weekend because we liked it so well. We came with a group of friends this weekend, and really talked up the restaurant. How embarassing! I made a reservation in advance, and that was fine, we were seated immediately, there wasn't a lot of people in the restaurant. Our server let us down, though. Items were forgotten (including my mom's main meal), bills were dropped and never picked up - we didn't feel very well taken care of. Some of our party are beer drinkers, but I loved the wine list Peter B's offered last time. Apparently last week they scrapped it and now only offer the house wines - a white and a red, if I recall. Estancia isn't a bad wine, but I like to have options.
