Perry's Steakhouse & Grille - Downtown Austin Ratings and Reviews
We have been to Perry's before and always loved the food and service. This occasion we were celebrating my husband's 30 years of naval service and Perry's offered their pork chop entree for veterans. The food was excellent but we felt the servers lacked attention to detail. Our waiter did not cut the pork chop and explained the different parts of the meat. The guy that brought the pork chop cut it and several pieces fell off the plate onto the serving tray and he just put them back on the plate, served it and left. After our dinner, we were waiting for the dessert menu but the server brought a trio of desserts and said it was part of the veterans special and did not ask if we wanted anything else or in addition to what was offered. Not the usual service we expect from Perry's but overall it was nice.
Great filet...cooked perfectly, however it wasn't as warm as I would have liked.
AuGratin potatoes were fantastic and the broccoli was cooked just right.
Only complaint was when asking for "house wine" the waiter said "people who ask for House wine usually want the cheapest, so that is ____, but our "House" wine is a special vineyard, etc etc..." I asked how much and he said "$100 a bottle."
A little pretentious, I'd say. A top notch restaurant usually serves a wine they would be proud of for their "house" and of course have other options. But should no way make diners think anything is wrong with ordering the house wine. It is their job to choose a "house" wine that is excellent within a reasonable budget...there are lots out there.
I just thought the presentation (which was obviously taught) was poor.
No need to be stuffy... Like good food and unpretentious, friendly vibe.
Really good meal, though.
We’ve been to Perry’s many times in the past and have come to expect an exceptional dining experience. Not tonight. There was a clear drop off in service. The food was great, except for the rainbow carrots. Bad decision on our part. But the server had all the personality of a turnip and was clearly not enjoying her work. In the past service for the table was usually handled by a team making certain everything was coordinated toward a a good experience. Not so tonight. Our server had a hard time keeping up with everything on her own. No help
from any other staff even though the dining room was approx 70% occupied. When paying four star prices I expect four star service. We will be choosing one of the many other options on our next night out.
Came for a steak, but decided to try the pork chop based on word of mouth and reviews. Great decision! Best pork I’ve ever tasted! Can’t believe anyone can eat it all, but you’ll keep taking one more bite. Service was excellent! Elliott knew when to engage and when to serve quietly without interrupting our conversation. 5+++++
Second time at Perry’s Steakhouse and it was amazing once again. Very busy but everyone having a great time. Our server Benjamin, was amazing as well and very efficient. The food, perfect like always. The only reason I didn’t give 5 stars. The front host was terrible. Had an attitude and a smart mouth and asked us three times what was our name. A couple came after us and was seated as we sat for a longer time with the same reservation time. Another group from the bar came out and complained how long there wait was, then seated before us. Once we were finally seated, all that was fogotten and had a GREAT EVENING!!!
The meat is great. I ordered the 12oz filet mignon medium rare, and it came out perfectly cooked. With that said, I do think it is a bit overpriced, considering you don't get a side with your meat. Sides have to be ordered separately. I understand paying a premium for ambiance, but 50 dollars just for a 12 oz is a bit much. Great service though and a good location to take a walk after a meal.
First time for dinner and it was great! Our server, Adian? was delightful. I had the crab cake for my entree and though I have had better, it was still good. My husband's steak was perfectly seasoned and cooked. The mushrooms and Lyonaisse potatoes were delicious. The signature gimlet was the best drink I've had in a long while. The second one did not taste the same and Adian confirmed another bartender made it. She promptly took it back and replaced it with an equally delicious one like the first. It was a very enjoyable evening, can't wait to try Happy Hour!
Stunning would be the attribute for this eating experience. I ordered the specialty of the restaurant, the pork chop and was amazed. Incredible, mouthwatering flavors as well as the table side presentation. The service by Will was inpeccable. Perfect table seating. That is why I rate this eating experience 5 stars.
The food was good but that's the only nice thing I can say about this place. We were sat upstairs for some reason even though we were a party of 3 and the upstairs is for large parties. The waiters were setting up for a large party the whole time we were trying to eat and they were talking, laughing, and having general loud chit chat like they were at a bar - I didn't need to know that one of the waiters had chicken, stuffing, and green beans for dinner. When the large party was seated, their table was too close to ours and the waiter asked one of my friends to scoot her chair in so he could take the large tables order. This was very rude and the waiter should have walked around our table instead of disregarding us. To top it off, when we used the restroom before leaving, one of the bus-ladies used the restroom and didn't wash her hands after. All three of us agreed we would not go back to Perry's. It was such a disappointment and a waste of $300.
I've eaten the pork chop in the past but this time was better than I remembered. Delicious. The portion was generous as well. I took half of it home. We had an amazing flaming desert as well. We had Nutty D'Angelo. It was basically a pecan praline sauce over a huge scoop of ice cream.
We had a business meeting the same night as Game 7 of the World Series. With so much riding on this game as good Texans we didn’t want to miss a minute. At the last minute our party grew from five to seven to eight and finally to ten. We asked for multiple increases in seating and finally a table that could view the game. They went much better than that, we were given a party room with TV and an outstanding waiter. Thank you. You saved the evening.
The atmosphere was great for a quiet or romantic dinner. The seating area is spacious. Food is pricey, but it was very well prepared, tasty and well presented. Our only criticism is that the waiter was new and unable to answer a basic menu question. Perry's has an extensive wine and cocktail list. I had the signature pork chop, which was delicious with a ridiculously large proportion. My wife had a filet mignon. Our starters were a chop salad and lobster bisque that were both delicious. The bisque could have been served a little warmer.
A pleasant dining experience in a convivial environment. Perry's has the right combination of music and ambient noise without being overbearing. We really enjoyed the pork chop. My only negative comment is that the service is sometimes a little perfunctory. It is a fine point that I probably should not expect in Austin at this price point, but truly great service communicates a sincere desire on the part of the wait staff to make your dining experience at that time the best it can be. In our experience at Perry's, each member of the staff performed their respective duty and then quickly exited before anyone at our table could express a request. Once again, this is a fine point. Overall we had a very pleasant dining experience.
