Perry's Steakhouse & Grille - Downtown Austin Ratings and Reviews
I love eating out. I heard rave reviews about Perry’s Steakhouse, so I expected an incredible meal. I loved sitting at the bar waiting for our table. The ambiance was lively and the waitress was delightful. Then we were escorted upstairs to a room which was so noisy it was difficult to hear each other and the waitress. I had steak tartare and it was delicious and the presentation of my daughter’s shish kabob was awesome, but both her steak and mine were salty. At one time I had to refill our champagne glasses so they would stay chilled. At the end of meal when our waitress came over I told her my steak was a little too salty as she looked at it on the plate half eaten. She apologized and informed me that for my birthday I was getting a dessert of the restaurant’s choice and my daughter could enjoy it since I was looking forward to Perry’s special Banana’s Foster. Yes I could have complained more, but especially at a fine establishment I want to enjoy the dining experience not get upset. Eating at Perry’s Steakhouse felt more like dining at a chain restaurant. They seemed to not cater to their individuals clients but the masses.
The Perry’s signature pork chop is by far the best cut of meat my wife and I have ever had. Which is saying something living in Texas. My wife had the pork chop and I had the chateaubriand, which was a perfectly portioned tender cut of steak with three phenomenal sauces to accompany the sliced at the table portions. AMAZING FOOD!!
Food was outstanding as usual. We dine there very frequently.
My only complaint is. We always finish our meal with Bananas Foster, which is normally amazing.Unfortunately this time the guy that made it spent at the most 2 minutes prepareing is. Melted the butter, threw bananas in pan , one little shake of cinnamon which you couldn’t even taste. Dumped the uncooked contentsof the pan on ice cream and scurried off.
Great place to go, wonderful ambiance. Warm bar, live music during happy hour.
We misunderstood our waiter on price of Wagyu per oz, so we incorrectly ordered 4 oz rather than a nice filet or strip. My wife was a bit disappointed that we apparently missed the mark on this order.
They provided a wonderful dessert trio as an anniversary wish. Hope Perry's opens a restaurant in metro ATL some time.
Consistently good food and steaks. Always a good choice in a city with a lot of good steakhouses and restaurants like Austin has. It is a big place with a lot of people enjoying the evenings. Add to the crowd and small live music performer and it can be a little loud for business conversations. I wish they would bring back their turtle soup. It was one of my favorites and unique for Austin.
Not sure what the point of a reservation was. We still had to wait at least 15 minutes to get seated. For a high-end place like Perry's and for how much it cost, I was expecting to be blown away by the service. I was not. The food was excellent, that was the best part of the experience, but the service had much to be desired.
First, our waitress was amazing. I’ve been there 20 times and she was the best.
I’ve never done Sunday pork chop night and wow even a much better deal than pork chop Friday...which I thought was impossible.
I’m traveling now but when I’m back I’ll be there often
Our party was large enough to warrant auto-gratuity. Service was fair at best and chicken entree was literally black and burned on the outside. How does a $30+ entree leave the kitchen charred and not even the waitstaff intervene and rectify it before bringing it to the customer? My daughter was too, embarrassed to send it back.
Got an email featuring the Sunday 3 bone pork chop. Pork chop was 2 and a half bones and the 1/2 the cutter pulled off the edge and discarded it. He should have realized that it was not as thick having only cut two bones for me to eat. Should have gotten me a 3 bone as shown in the picture and as I have had many times before. My service at 4:30 was not attentive, surprising since the restaurant had only one other table being occupied. Not good enough to make me want to go back anytime soon.
My husband and I are new to Austin and stayed at the intercontinental for my birthday. We had dinner at Perry’s that night and unfortunately for both of us, it did not end well. We split the lobster bisque, he had the hanging skewer and I had the chateaubriand (we did not share entrees). I was feeling ‘off’ when he ordered a dessert. When we got back to the room I spent the rest of the evening in the bathroom and he did the same thing the next morning. It ended up ruining the weekend.
Had never been to Perry’s. Service was great. Chris did an outstanding job. Food was great. Wine was good. The only drawback was the piano music was too loud. The music was good, but because of the high ceilings the sound carries and is almost amplified. Hard to carry on a one to one conversation.
We had previously been to Perry's in Dallas, so we had to try out the Austin location to find if the good service and food extends to all the branches of the restaurant. This restaurant is beautiful, the service outstanding, and oh those pork chops! The lunch portion is huge, so I don't know how anyone could actually finish the entire dinner portion. Even though the restauant became full while we were there, we could still hold a personal conversation with each other. So the bottom line is...go!
We went for an anniversary, and everything was amazing. The service was great (we had a trainee, and both him and his trainer were great), the food was amazing, and the ambiance was perfect. They had rose petals on our table for the anniversary, and every staff member that approached our table told us "happy anniversary". Made us feel special!
When we got there, there was a molding smell in the lobby the carried into the dining room. We later surmised it was coming from the kitchen. It really turned my wife's appetite off. Then during dinner we were troubled by fruit gnats. Another indication there is a cleanliness issue.
The food was well cooked. The salads and steaks were great and the red-fish very fresh and flavorable. We had the brussel sprouts, and two types of (Lyonaise and then later whipped) potatoes both of which were great.
The problem was they got one steak at the table wrong (bone in Strip was ordered, regular strip delivered). By the time it was corrected, the others at the table were mostly finished. The others diners wanted to add a second side, but, we never saw the waitress from the time she left with incorrect steak until we eventually had to ask another server to track down ours. The second side came out after the corrected steak was delivered by the manager - after most everyone else was finished.
Finally, a little thing , but worth mentioning is on the bill they left the charge of the original (wrong) steak and then credited it on the bottom (while charging for the correct one). I mistakenly thought they credited the steak so when I calculated my tip on what I thought was the "full" amount it was actually inflated by the $50 - the amount of the steak that was incorrect. So we ended up tipping $10 too much.
The manager did comp us $20 for the desserts which was nice of him (yes, we tipped on this amount as is fair), but frankly was pretty disappointed overall. When you pay >$400 (after tip) for a meal, you expect a higher level of service and you certainly don't expect the cleanliness issue. This experience is completely counter to my experience at Perry's in Houston.
I think they are better than our experience so I offer this simply as an opportunity for them to improve. But, the experience soured us. So sadly we'll ever go back.
