About Perry St

Chef Jean-Georges brings relaxed elegance to the West Village with Perry St - awarded three stars by the New York Times.

Jean-Georges’ son, Cedric Vongerichten, helms the kitchen, creating dishes that reflect his own keen instinct for balancing flavor and texture with an exquisite blend of French, American, and Asian influences and ingredients. The menu is inspired by the season, centering on the local market at Union Square.

Perry Street on the edges of the West Village is contemporary with creative food. The room is beautiful, the service is friendly, professional and the menu offers interesting takes on some familiar themes. We began with calamari in the lightest batter imaginable enhanced by a sauce of egg white base so light that the whole dish floated. Mains were slow cooked salmon with a red pepper glaze and etherial potatoes and scallop over navy beans. Both amazing. The only issue on a night of brutal cold was the door opening bringing icy cold air into the room. Many diners were wearing coats or moving tables in spite of the vigilance of the front of the house people who tried to keep the cold air to a minimum. Otherwise, perfection. Thanks, John, for you great service.

The food is absolutely delicious and creative; we had a wonderful romantic dinner there and we definitely planning to return.

*I would recommend having a bit more light at the table, or increase the menu's font size...it's too dark to read at some tables.

Fabulous food. Great service. Great ambiance. Don't sit near the front door in winter, very cold.

I love this restaurant and have returned many times. First and foremost the food is excellent - creative and the kitchen is always accommodating to me as a vegetarian. The service is great and I also really appreciate the ambiance and the fact that it is not noisy. You can actually hear the person you are eating with - that is an increasingly rare commodity in a city that seems to think noisy is a good thing. I will be back.

Overall is was a great evening with very good food and excellent ambiance.

The service was courteous and friendly. However, we found that attention to detail and coordination could have been improved. For example, dishes were served to the wrong parties, non-sparkling water was poured over sparkling, and bread was only offered once. We also found it odd, and somewhat disappointing, to learn after the fact that the most popular item on the dessert menu was sold out. Mentioning this when the dessert menus were handed out would have been the appropriate thing to do. However, on a good note, a birthday was well noted.

The food was very good, despite the fact that the tenderloin came in medium, instead of medium-rare. Again attention to details... There was also no vegetarian option on the entrees menu, and the proposed dish felt somewhat improvised. In our opinion, a New York restaurant of this caliber should have a well-planned, though-through vegetarian option, and have it available on the menu.

House sodas were really good and the staff was nice and friendly.

So generally, a great evening that could have benefitted from a tad more attention to detail.

Food was great. Service was a bit slow, but it was New Years day, so that is forgiven. Ambience was great and our group of 6 had a round table which is perfect for conversation. It was reserved for my birthday so I was a bit put off that the host did not want to give us the round table when we asked and she was a tad testy when we asked why we couldn't have it. But the food and bar fare were lovely.

The food was delicious, fried chicken, and the mushrooms were fantastic, I want to try and replicate the recipe at home!
Nice to be able to have a conversation without loud music or bad acoustics for a change. Lovely decor and atmosphere.
Our waitress was very helpful with the food descriptions, but her assistant was rushing and hovering, kept trying to take our plates while we were still eating. That is my only criticism, besides that it was a wonderful experience.

We were visiting our daughter over the Christmas holiday and wanted a special place to have Christmas dinner and celebrate my 70th birthday. It was everything we had hoped and more. Even with their three course- prixe fixe menu they offered a variety of options. My wife thought she had died and gone to heaven after the first taste of her squash soup which was hot and velvety. My wife and I had the salmon for our entrees. It was the best salmon we have ever had, anywhere..literally melted in our mouths. My daughter had the beef and raved about it. Our deserts were equally as tasty....molten chocolate cake, pavlova with raspberry sorbet and lemon tart...perfect. My lemon tart came with a lit birthday candle...The service was friendly and very attentive. We've been to NYC many times and this was the best NY dining experience we have ever had. It's pricey but worth every penny.

We had the prix-fixe Christmas menu on Christmas Eve. This is probably the best meal that we have had all year. Every course was delicious. The room is beautifully lit and decorated. The service was very good. We are already planning a return to this restaurant.

I love Perry St, restaurant and I have visited this place pretty often...
This place always have given me a pleasure with the food and environment.
I have many good memories here.

I hate to say this, but my last visit was pleasing as my previous visits...
The first few tasting menu dishes were mostly salty, and my mouth was numb during the whole meal... first 2 dishes were very salty, even when I consider the tasting menu was meant to be paired with the wine... After the complain, the next dish's saltiness diminished, but still the salad was very salty...

This is one of my favorite restaurant, and I hope the kitchen is restored to normal...

The food was excellent. My cocktail was well made and delicious; the mushroom appetizer was just wonderful. Our waiter was knowledgable and helpful.

This is a sleek attractive restaurant and it was full of young, glamorous people. The lighting is on the romantic side.. At least from where we sat, near the edge of the seating area, conversation with my two companions was easy and I frequently have trouble hearing in restaurants.

All three of us had a great time.

Perry St is a fantastic dining experience from beginning to end. The food is innovative and superb, and the service is right up there with the very best. We especially enjoy the attractive, upbeat and lively scene, while not being boisterous at all. Perry St is our favorite choice for date night, and also to impress out-of-towners with a great NYC restaurant with a casual elegant vibe.

Serene, sophisticated, and quietly beautiful--this is Perry Street. I have eaten here several times over many years and now, more than ever, the restaurant seems a haven on the island of Manhattan. The cooking is centered and often surprising (the shrimp potstickers: brilliant!). Every dish pleased. Impeccable, friendly service that never intrudes. For the first time in a very long time, I noticed not one person on a smart phone in a NY restaurant. At Perry Street, you're next to the river on a perfectly quiet block; the interior slows the pulse; you can have a conversation here over an exquisite meal. There's no reason to take out a phone here except to throw it into the Hudson and enjoy the bliss.

The restaurant is beautiful and the food is beyond delicious, but the service was lacking to say the least. The waitress seemed to not care about her job or our table at all. She had a stiff attitude and we barely saw her. Our glasses were empty most of our meal, and everything was left half done. Been to this restaurant many times but this time the service seemed to be suffering.

This is my last time visiting this restaurant. My parents came to NY to visit and we are foreigners. I pointed to a $48 half bottle wine when I was ordering the wine. But the waitress presented me a $120 one. I never had these wine before and I didn’t know about the names of them either. When I got the check I saw the price difference. I asked the waitress what happened and the manager came told us that it was our fault not to look at the name of the wine. She said I should look at the wine carefully when the bottle was on the table and she did not apologize at all. I explained that we are not natives and we never had these two wine before; we are not sensitive with the wine names and we can’t tell the difference. She kept repeating that we should pay for what we consumed and we should look at the wine more carefully. But if the waitress could double confirm with the wine I ordered (cuz that’s a huge price difference), this would not happen. I am willing to pay for the wine but the manager’s attitude was just disrespectful.
