Perla's Seafood and Oyster Bar Ratings and Reviews
I was extremely excited to come here for my birthday dinner but was overall kinda disappointed.
Highlights: grilled octopus & papas bravas--amazing and cooked to perfection and seared Maine scallops a la plancha--3 huge scallops lightly seared
We also got the calamari, little gem salad, oak grilled brussels, chocolate bar, a couple drinks and hanger steak (I should have listened to other reviewers and passed on it even though I normally love hanger steaks. Server suggested medium rare which is the temp we always order our steaks...steak came out looking very thin and burnt. After cutting into it we realized it was basically well done. We sent it back and got another one which was cooked better but overall not a good steak.) These were decent but not great.
Service was overall pretty slow and inattentive. My boyfriend was upset that our server asked for my ID when I ordered my drink and failed to even recognize that it was my birthday, just a lack of observation and attentiveness. It was very slow the night we went (Sunday and raining on and off), yet we weren't paid attention to. He took a long time to greet and even check on us. Finally when the check arrived I noticed a $3 entree split charge. When I ordered the salad, I asked how big it was and said okay perfect and continued ordering the rest of our meal. The salad came out split (I thought "nice gesture"), even though I had never mentioned that I was going to be sharing it or that I wanted it split. I just thought it was a little ridiculous that we were charged for something we didn't want, or wasn't even aware of.
Pretty expensive meal for the 2 of us (over $200 with tip) that wasn't exactly worth it in my opinion.
Christmas Brunch with daughter, daughter-in-law, and granddaughters: perfect seating, menu choices galore for everyone, excellent service, some of the best food in Austin, well exceeded my expectations for this event (which were very high indeed). Perla’s continues to be one of my favorites in Austin.
This was the worst experience I've had at Perla's. It was my girlfriends bday dinner and we had to move tables due to very slow service on the patio. Once we were inside her fish came to the table raw in the middle and that waiter was also very slow and seemed as if he didn't really care. I don't think we'll be back. I understand restaurants having bad days, however I listed it as a special occasion on the reservation and would've expected them to try at least a little to accommodate that - they didn't even notice. Such a shame.
Perlas is one of our favorite places. We eat there a lot but the service this time was horrible and many of the entrees were sold out as well. Don’t mind paying the money to eat there and have a great meal but when it’s lackluster it can be really disappointing.
I like well prepared Texas seafood. I hate when Gulf of Mexico catches are abused by the chef. Perla's shows the food lots of love. My favorite is the Texas Gulf Barrelfish. Perla's prepares with the some butter, garlic and other nice spices so its fabulous. The local greens are fabulous with a clean dressing that has a touch of citrus. The carmalized tomato matches nicely.
Perla's makes an awesome Dirty rice. I'm 90% positive it has charizo in it, which offers a nice Texas flavor, especially given that the charizo Perla's uses is very clean.
The asparagus is veggie crack. It's really well prepared, including the simple char they do.
The cocktails are well prepared but understand I'm a bourbon and water person. My BFF doesn't dig foo-foo chick drinks but she loves the wine selections.
Have fun. Oh, the ceviche is fabulous.
Everything was perfect. We were a group if 4. Had dinner outside. The oak trees are magnificent. I have eaten there 3 times. The service is great. The swordfish was recommended and was fantastic sweet and moist. I was nit a swordfish fan prior. We all had something different and the dishes were all delectable.
