The chicken was so amazing. You really need to try the chicken! All the veggies were wonderful as well. I love this place.
Delicious food and great happy hour specials!
This is becoming one of my favorite restaurants. The menu choices are interesting, the food is delicious, and the servers pay attention to small details.
We absolutely love Periphery. Always a great experience overall. Food & service are always consistent. Chef Weaver & staff really know how to connect with their guests.
Yes, I already did.. to family and friend, before I even got my review.
I very much enjoy this place. Brought 2 of my girlfriends for dinner before the show at The Playhouse!! Both of them loved it & talked about returning!!
So delicious! Just a great go-to!
Food was Wonderful, Service was Outstanding.
The food was amazing, the imaginative interplays of flavors and textures catching me by surprise with each dish. Unlike any other restaurant experience, and all in a good way!
My only criticism is that the lamb was too salty, and with the heavy seasoning ended up tasting more like pork. And not all of my treasured leftovers made it into the “take home” box.
Yes, a bit pricey, but for a special outing with an amazing culinary experience, well worth it. Somehow the chefs used the freshwater catfish flavor as something to build on - I’ve never tasted better!! The fennel side and two starters (crispy lentils, and fresh cheese with truffle) each used flavor and texture to complement each other. And the cake - normally I just pass, but crisp-crunchy rich poundcake was a new one for me, and I ate every bite.
My favorite neighborhood restaurant in SA. Great wine selection and the food never disappoints ( I have had just about everything on the menu). I definitely recommend the pimento cheese, the salad is always delicious, lentils, chicken, steak, catfish, braised collards.
Went for restaurant week. Had the "menu" - 3 courses for $35, plus the wine flight at $15. Was underwhelmed by the salad - featuring peaches. The second course - bean rissoto - was ok, but nothing great. The desert was the best part of the meal. My partner ordered a la carte and fared better. The crispy lentils were wonderfully weird - fried lentils, avacado and more with an asian fish sauce, followed by ratatouille, quite good, with okra and no tomatoes. Seemed expensive for what we got, over $100 with tax and tip. The "concept" is a fusion of southern cooking and asian food. Worked better for some dishes, not so well for others. Not repeating the experience.
They had a wonderful gluten free dessert for restaurant week. Always love the chicken.
Hats off to the staff of Periphery! The food was amazing and the service was superb!
Every thing was GREAT !!
Creative menu - well prepared - well plated - Delicious -
A little noisy
Chicken is amazing
Wonderful experience-first time and will be back! Food was creative and well prepared. Nice wine selections and friendly knowledgeable staff. Cozy atmosphere-highly recommend!
We had a wonderful meal at Periphery. Food was excellent and service was great. I would recommend it with out hesitation for any occasion.
Amazing food and service. Will definitely be back and recommend to friends!
I am not one to give 5 Star reviews, but my experience at periphery was special. I had heard about it from a couple of friends, I gave it a chance. I find myself disappointed more often than not with upscale dining in Texas. I have to say, this is where I will go when I genuinely need a dish that is cooked well, high-quality, and creative. I hate celery, but the lentil salad with celery was absolutely delicious. I ordered it without realizing it had celery in it, and couldn't put my finger on the herb or spice used until I realized the delightful crunch was one of my least favorite foods. It was the same with the steak. The eggplant on top (not my favorite) was AMAZING. No idea what the chef did to that vegetable. I have such a hard time finding a steak that's cooked well, but this was it. The server took no temperature, so it was perfectly cooked the the chef's vision. It is a small menu so you must just trust the chef and eat his vision, not what you are picturing. I cant wait to go back and make it through every dish on the menu. Plus- the wine list is a nice mix of pop wines and some cool nerdy stuff, which I dug. Please support this small restaurant because this chef should really be recognized for his very unique and meticulous vision.
Love Periphery. Would like a little more change in the menu-maybe with each season.
Great food and service
Loved the food and the wine and the overall ambiance everything was awesome
Excellent food...a bit noisy for me. The server was decent. I already recommended restaurant to friends, would go back.
have been several times. great neighborhood restaurant with fantastic food and friendly service
BBQ catfish was incredible. Always inventive choices, and such a great atmosphere
Periphery has become our new favorite restaurant. High-end food at reasonable prices in a relaxed, casual atmosphere. We’re huge fans of the polenta crusted pimento cheese and utterly addicted to the crispy lentils. The chicken, which is Periphery’s signature dish, is divine. We never eat chicken out and we eat it here. You must come eat here. You will love it.
We were looking for a place that was not entrenched in the bustling Riverwalk, so we selected the aptly-named periphery. We had a great time. We got some inventive drinks and fried pimento cheese with bacon jam, ate some great NY Strip steak and BBQ catfish (get the collard greens as a side...LOVED those), and had peanut butter poundcake to finish. Afterwards, the chef came out and chatted with us and revealed some secrets about the food preparation. Next time we're in SA, we will be back!
With exception of too cold fans blowing perfect in every detail
Always a wonderful experience at one of our favorite neighborhood restaurants. Service and food never disappoint. Looking forward to our next visit.
Great food, but limited menu. Nice neighborhood feel. Small/intimaye. Outside tables available. Parking was easy.
Always delicious! Can’t ever get enough of the lentils so I’ve started ordering my own plate so I do r have to share. Love the new addition of the lamb! Yummy!
Contemporary small neighborhood restaurant with delicious starters and drinks as well as personable service. It was a bit hard to carry a conversation when the place was full so I'll probably try to get a table outside next time.
Delicious food! Don’t miss the pimento cheese or the roasted chicken!
Great restaurant! Chef Mark always serves up excellent food and treats his guests well!
Great meal! The roasted chicken was amazing!
A neighborhood gem that I’m glad I finally discovered! Limited menu but everything is so well done. Can’t wait to come back!
Excellent, seasonal food prepared inventively and deliciously. Great neighborhood atmosphere and attentive service. Everything a small, local bistro should be.
Everything was outstanding. From the burrata, to the pimento cheese. The lamb crepes were tender and flavor packed. The roasted chicken is literally the best chicken I’ve ever eaten in my life. I highly recommend checking out this restaurant. Very intimate setting, not loud.
My meal at Periphery was one of the best I’ve had in San Antonio. The food is obviously made with care and a lot of attention to detail, with flavor profiles that just work so beautifully. My only qualm was with the service—our waiter wasn’t bad, just a bit disinterested and blasé. Maybe he was just having an off night; luckily it didn’t detract from the incredible food.
Original Chef takes on farm to table foods. Always interesting and always delicious.
