Percy Street Barbecue Ratings and Reviews
I wanted the best place in Philadelphia for bbq. This was not it. Everything tasted the same. Chicken. Brisket. Ribs. Wings. Its all cooked in same smoker. Brisket was very tender but nothing had any taste. Portion of appetizers small. Macaroni and cheese was awesome.
All the meats on the menu were great! And they give you A LOT! The buttermilk biscuits were great too! But the mac & cheese and cornbread were very bland. The Collard greens were well seasoned but too spicy to really enjoy. The baked beans were very good, the potato salad is NOT any potato salad that I have ever had; it was hot and there was no mayonnaise. Just some sliced potatoes and scallions, I didn't really taste any type of "cookout" potato salad. The BBQ fries were very filling too! We got the Lockhart, best way to sample a lil bit of everything... or most of everything.
The drinks were weak for the price they charge...
We did not have a very good experience. We waited for a long time for our server and once we ordered drinks they also didn't come for a very long time. Our beer was warm. We tried to order but they were out of wings, BBQ chicken, and jam for the biscuits. Four of the seven of us ordered pulled pork but our waitress came back and told us they were out of that as well. We actually were going to leave and go somewhere else but they pulled pork off of some of their ribs and were able to make our sandwiches which was very nice of them. The food was ok, not great. I wouldn't go back. I think maybe they underestimated the crowd for the holiday weekend.
Meat was very good. Not Texas good, but good. The sides were okay. Collards way too salty and mac and cheese was just "eh" but the cornbread was excellent. The main problem was the noise level and the very slow service. I ordered a cornbread mid-way through and it didn't arrive til after we had paid the check, despite asking about it several times.
Percy Street normally has great BBQ, however, on this visit, the ribs were only slightly warm and a little tough. The mac-n-cheese was hard, greasy, and not up to their usual creamy standards. Every time we go, the food is inconsistent. Apparently, it depends on who is cooking that day; and for the price that Percy Street charges, there should never be a lack of quality. Yet, this restaurant is still a good place for casual dining.
What a disappointment! I brought my foodie family for a fun, casual dinner, and I was very embarrassed. The worst thing was the service. They brought our appetizers, but we had no plates or serving utensils. On the third try, I actually went over the waiter station to ask AGAIN. Then, they started bringing the main course while the table was still crowded with dishes from the apps. We had to ask them to clear the first course. Then they didn't bring us plates. AGAIN. It was like our waiters had never served in a restaurant or even eaten at one. Clueless.
The food was ok overall. The ribs were inedible--like beef jerky! The chicken was tasty. The chopped salad was tiny, but good.
The place was half empty at 7.30 on a friday night, so it wasn't loud.
The wall decor above our table were old folding chairs. Really? Who thinks that's charming?
Frankly, the noise level was the least of their problems.
We would recommend Percy Street BBQ for nothing. With the new ownership now for something less than a year, it is on a huge downslope. My ribs were burned, the cornbread was cold, with a large clob of butter which also was cold and the noise level from the boom box made conversation impossible with . After 4 years of loving this place, the love affair is over.
Percy Street is an upscale BBQ restaurant that does a good job of replicating Texas BBQ. Granted, the best Texas BBQ joints are usually no-frills affairs and Percy Street is a bit of a "theme" restaurant, but ultimately the good is quote good. The mac and cheese is outstanding.
Friends and I came here because we love barbecue and we saw it advertised on T.V. The service was fantastic! The drinks were great. There were 4 of us so we ordered the sampler dinner of brisket, pulled pork, and ribs for $25.00 per person. We were pretty excited about the pricing considering the amount of food that we were served-generous portions! The sampler came with sides of collard greens, baked beans, and coleslaw. The side dishes were excellent!!! The barbecued and smoked meat was probably near the worst I've ever had. It was extremely dried out and seemed like it was leftovers. I was very thankful there was plenty of water on the table to help wash it down. We were all very disappointed with the main dishes.
Out of several food options on a Sat night at 730pm. Seated on time but no one came to table for 15 min and another 20 before we got our drinks. Spoke with manager who explained they were short on staff . Mgr never returned to check on table. He didn't really care
What happened to Percy Street BBQ?!? No more crackers and cheese. Sides were just ok, and service was poor. We (party of 2) waited for 45 minutes for our food and the restaurant wasn't even full. This used to be one of our favorite BBQ places in the city. Time to find a new one.
I took my son to Percy for his birthday. It was a Thursday night around 6:15. I had made a 7 p.m. reservation but that was not necessary. We were seated immediately. We loved the ambiance and the service was excellent. We chose a $25 pp meal that included three meats and four sides. We made it there right for the tail end of happy hour and I had a house wine (Pinot Grigio) for $5 - a great value! It was icy cold and absolutely delicious. My son had a cocktail that he really liked and we both had seconds on our drinks. The food was amazing. I particularly loved the ribs and collard greens. Even though we were stuffed, after some digestion, we had dessert, my son - key lime pie, and me - pecan pie ala mode. Overall, a really wonderful meal and a great time! The bill with tip was about $125. I highly recommend Percy Street BBQ!
Excellent food but very long wait to get your food. We waited a good 45-50 minutes for our meal to come out and there weren't too many people in the restaurant. There were some large tables but they had either already been served or were paying their check Server was very nice but seemed to be a little overwhelmed, had to repeat requests over and over. A little girl sitting next to us asked for ketchup and had to wait 20 minutes before the mom could catch the server to ask again.
While it was great bbq, not sure I would want to go back due to the wait time for food
