We had a wonderful dinner...our server was excellent and will definitely recommend to friends and be back in the Furr!!
A group of us were celebrating a birthday...staff were attentive and upbeat, excellent service and good food made this a particularly good dining experience ! We all agreed we would come back...we also enjoyed the unusual menu ..for us...what this chef did with spam was nothing short of extraordinary.
A perfectly executed super creative and fresh menu. All the staff moves about the restaurant like a well oiled machine with Chef and Owner Mike Ledesma calmly orchestrating their movements. Outstanding venue that can accommodate everything from a large group, to a business dinner, to a quiet date night for two.
Now THIS is the only restaurant my husband ever wants to go to! It's a fun, colorful space with an open, friendly vibe. The menu changes frequently, and is creative and delicious ... so many difficult decisions, but each item we ordered seemed like the exactly right decision! The staff is approachable and helpful. The owner/chef, Mike, took time to not only talk to us about our experience, but then he took my husband into the kitchen and showed him around!!! So. We're in love.
The food was fantastic--we were a table of 4, we had whole fish, ceviche, salads (some of them with spam) bread pudding for dessert--was great1 The service was on the slow side once we got our drinks but as soon as I caught someone and asked for our order to be taken, the gal was right there. The place is noisy but that's how most places are these days. When people started to leave, it was much better noise wise!
Outstanding experience and superb service on a busy night. Would highly recommend and will be returning!
We really enjoyed the food and experience, but it was pricey.
We were not impressed. The mushroom cream soup was like water. The pizza was tasteless. The duck confit sushi roll was dry and tasteless and had enough rice to feed China. The meat and cheese small plate was ok. And the french fries were ok.
While not a huge problem, the restaurant’s sign is impossible to read and the location is thus not obvious. Also, it was just cold in the restaurant and the music was banal, cliche and too loud.
The service was pleasant and efficient but when I asked if the whole fish entree would be properly filleted by a server for me at the table my server barely seemed to know what I was talking about. I thus did not order it.
I predict quite confidently that Perch will be closed within twelve months. I would bet money on it. It is a restaurant with an identity crisis. Richmond needs better, not more restaurants. And it needs straight forward places not some ego driven, hyper locavore and ‘pieces and parts’ trough.
It was delightful. As we were being seated, we were greeted by the chef who gave hugs all around. We were celebrating a friends birthday and was surprised when the alter showed up with a round of Champagne compliments of the chef. For dinner we opted for family style small plates plus a whole fish. Everything was delicious and the branzino was some of the best I’ve ever eaten.
We all left feeling we would definitely go back.
Great restaurant!!! Awesome people! Best food in RVA! The Chef is so nice and very personable. Unique food with awesome decor/ambiance....can’t go wrong here! 👍🏽👍🏽
85 th birthday for my Mother
Chief Mike is amazing. His level of engagement with the customers is what keeps us coming back.
The renovation of the building from the old Chinese Joy Garden is quite beautiful. The openness, large windows, bright lighting makes the experience enjoyable. The staff were friendly and the owner, Mike Ledesma engaged my wife and I in pleasant conversation before our meal was served. It became somewhat noisy when a large group of birthday revelers stood at the bar and just behind our table, but other than that we had a good experience and will be going back. The food, which is why we go to a restaurant was excellent...whole branzino fish and duck breast with a side of homemade kimchi. Oh, another plus, they have a parking lot beside the building for easy access.
Our first time for brunch and it was okay.
I would like to try their dinner.
big let down after the hype. had reservations, but seated 30 min late. service was very slow. fish was dry and did not smell fresh. 20 minutes to get a glass of wine. Apps and salad were decent. don't get stuck in the back room, not a good place to sit. as a party of 2, we arrived at 7:25, paid bill at 9:30. Too many other great restaurants in RVA to go back.
Great food service and ambiance! We loved this addition to the Richmond restaurant scene!
Was here for New Years Eve event. Brought my husband back for date night, since he said that he was not going to any other restaurant until he went back to Perch for the whole fish. He thoroughly enjoyed it again. I had the duck. It was delish too. Our server David was great. He was our server for both of our visits here.
It was a place neither of us had been too, and it exceeded our expectations. The food was fantastic, the drink menu was impressive and our total overall experience was great. The only thing that I would have changed was the lighting. We sat in a center table and I felt like I was under a spotlight at times. However, it was in no way a hinderance on our evening! We still had an amazing time and will definitely be going back for brunch!
Sunday brunch was a hit! Inventive and fun cocktails, great service, and delicious food.
Service was good. Pandesal was great. My husband loved the coffee. I had tapa and I think beef needs to be marinated more. Fried rice is bland. The arrozcaldo is sour for my taste.
A fantastic meal
Overall we had a great time and we enjoyed our meals. I had asked ahead of time for a quiet table and was called the morning of the reservation saying that they had to move us out of the back room to accomidate a bridal shower. They told me that I should not have been promised a table in the back room, but that they could provide us with a quiet one in the front. There was live music and it was not possible to provide a quiet table. We were trying to celebrate a retirement of a friend and it was difficult to have conversation comfortably . Our voices were hoarse by the end of brunch. It was frustrating.
Unique and delicious.
Loved the crab cakes!!!
You will see us again and we are telling our friends.
Thanks for a fantastic date night!!!
M & M
First I ordered a cocktail that had so much Thai chili spice in it that I couldn’t drink it. I took two sips and asked it be taken away. They offered to take it off the bill but the menu said it was spicy so I said it was my fault and to leave it on. The next cocktail they brought was good.
The pimento and crab appetizer had almost no crab and half of it stuck to the cast iron. The charcuterie board didn’t have any pickles and the salami could have been Boar’s Head.
The server then brought me mushroom soup that I didn’t order. I asked the table if I had ordered it by mistake and everyone said no. My fiancé actually ordered it and I wish I had kept the soup because it was the only decent food that was brought to us all night.
I ordered the NY strip, my buddy ordered the pork belly, his wife ordered kimchi rice and my fiancé ordered the seafood pizza.
My steak came out and also had some greens and bread pudding on the side. The greens and bread pudding were good, although the pudding pieces were a little dry. The steak was hands down the worst I’ve ever received in a restaurant. The crust was sparse and flavorless and when I cut into it, it felt like I was cutting into a lacrosse ball.
I asked for medium rare and it was close, but so tough and chewy that it didn’t matter. I tried cutting into different parts of the steak and none of it was salvageable. What really shocked me is what a low quality cut of meat it seemed like, judging by the flavor and the consistency. My buddy’s pork belly was dry, over-salted and also poorly prepared. My fiancé’s seafood pizza was mostly heavy cream on crust and had very little else. We tried leaving it on the table but a nice waiter chased us down in the parking lot and brought it to us. Even the kimchi rice wasn’t as good as the rice at Beijing on Grove, which is much less expensive. My half of the bill cost $210 with tip and it pains me to think what a waste. Avoid this place.
I love this place! Food is always good, service is always excellent, and everyone is very professional. The restaurant is beautiful.
The four of us in our party all enjoyed every aspect of our dinner Friday night. We all agreed that this was probably the best meal we've had in Richmond! Absolutely loved it.
Great food.....lively place.
server was always per occupied, menu is limited, parking is horrendous. Food was decent but not impressive
The food was just okay. After hearing all the raves, we were on balance disappointed. The rice and kimchi were the best part of the meal. Chicken was average and the ribs were like, well, "shake and bake". The pre-dinner drinks were tasty and the blackberry beer refreshing. But, compared other offering in the same "zone" of prices and style, it was below average in total.
Noise levels are a near constant bother. If you go out to eat with your spouse, how can you enjoy a meal if you have yell so the person beside you can hear. When we eat at home, we do not turn on rockish music so loud that we cannot think, so why oh why would we want that when we go out? There is no reason for the noise unless you really do not want to talk ... but just to see.
Food is excellent. Service was attentive, but our waiter was over worked with too many tables. He did the best anyone could with his load.
Noise level is very loud when restaurant is full.
Not a place for intimate dining.
Great addition to the area. I work right around the corner at Sheppard Street Antiques. Was really cold inside at first but the staff adjusted the heat right away! Already planning the next visit!
The food was inventive and delicious! We enjoyed the atmosphere on a Sunday evening.
Everything was wonderful - the Ceviche, the whole fish, the duck -- but the Duck Confit Flatbread is all I need to come back!!
My girlfriend and I celebrated our 1 year anniversary at Perch. Chef Mike Ledesma and his entire team went above and beyond to provide a truly special experience that we will never forget! The interactions and stories shared with Chef Mike were enjoyable, educational, and inspiring.
This type of experience is not reserved just for special occasions. I've eaten at Perch three times within six months, and every time this team delivers the highest quality service, conversation, food, and fine dining experience with a friendly feel.
Perch is on my Top 5 RVA Restaurants list, and will likely be there for a very long time! A sincere thank you to Chef Mike and the entire Perch team for consistently going above and beyond to make every experience memorable.
I think it is now my favorite restaurant. The chef/owner - Mike Ledesma is the best!!
Great staff, terrific ambience, fast service and delicious food with a variety of new and different options. Everything that I look for in a meal out.
Food was hit or miss. Grilled octopus and ceviche was great, bbq ribs not so much. Unfortunately, the entire experience was tainted by a server who couldn't be bothered to check on us. Perch has great potential, but as always the server is the "last mile" to the customer, and can make a bad situation tolerable or an amazing experience mediocre.
Arrived at our reservation time and was told that the table wasn't ready. 15min later we we're finally sat at a table that had been open the whole time we had waited. Then proceeded to wait another 10 min just to get served water. If they had been packed with people I would have been more understanding, but they had many empty tables and servers chatting amongst themselves.
Loud setting with cool decor. Food was a bit unrefined for the prices. Good, but not great. You expect a certain level of special for $25-30/plate. We went for a belated Valentine’s Day dinner, and the experience left us a bit underwhelmed.
Had a great birthday meal with 3 friends. We shared 3 appetizers, a salad, a main course and 2 desserts. All were excellent! The grilled octopus and the crispy spare ribs were amazing and we absolutely loved the branzino. Great service, beautiful atmosphere and terrific food. Chef says the menu will change to spring in about 2 weeks so planning a return bisit soon.
