About Perbacco

Sleek and modern with one foot firmly in the Old World is the feeling at Perbacco. The restaurant boasts a brick wall original to the historic 1913 Hind building, with other touches such as a bar top and floor tiles made from white Carrara marble. With 16 seats at the bar and 7 more intimate tables, Perbacco creates an atmosphere for a glass of wine or a light bite. Perbacco also features 2 dining rooms, one on the main floor and a smaller one on the Mezzanine, which has the added allure of serving as "theater", with windows to watch all the action in the kitchen below.
Chef Staffan Terje strives to cook the finest food reflecting the Italian regions of Piemonte and Liguria. Handcrafted, house-made salumi, prosciutto and other charcuterie are not to be missed. Seasonal pastas, a tradition in Piemonte, range from the traditional ravioli to the more exotic agnolotti. Main courses feature dishes such as stuffed quail breast, a selection of seafood dishes, and vegetarian options.

Food was excellent - 4 of us (all women) shared 2 antipasti dishes, 1 pasta and 1 risotto dish plus a dessert. We left completely satisfied. The restaurant is energetic at lunch so be aware that it is not quiet and intimate. Service was very good and staff very friendly.

Very much enjoyed our dinner at this fine dining restaurant. The vibe is great, the wait staff friendly, and the food is innovative and delicious. We will dine here again when staying in the area.

Overall great food. If you are going there for the first time, be sure to try a pasta, it's what they are most famous for. Our waiter didnt offer what we requested very well and timely though. For napkins and more bread sticks we had to ask three or four times before he eventually got to us.

We went to Perbascco to celebrate my sister’s 60th birthday. The service exceeded our expectations! The staff was attentive- not just our server, but the whole team checked on us - and well informed. Staff remembered it was my sister’s special day and left a card on her table and brought dessert with a candle in it. The food was delicious and the ambiance was beautiful. Thank you for a lovely evening!

The food and service were mediocre. A previous experience was good, but this time there was nothing even acceptable. The quail tasted stale. They tried to be imaginative with the spices but it did not succeed.

Food at Perbacco is consistently yummy. Noise at Perbacco is consistently loud. Tables are too close together for confidential conversations. My pet peeve is waitstaff knocking into my chair while walking by, and this night my chair was kicked numerous times. If the tables were farther apart and if the waitstaff was more careful /less hurried this would have been a much better dining experience.

Always a favorite. This time I thought the service was lacking. The servicer set down a plate with a hair on it then tried to wipe it off with her finger and leave the plate! Had to ask her to bring a new one. Then the bus staff was all too anxious to clear our table as we were chatting and not finished. Had to ask them to return my plate to the table. Lastly they never put my bottle of wine on ice or kept chilled during our long lunch. Not the level of service expected for a $250 lunch or from Perbacco.
Food was delicious, as always.

This is Italian food but not your basic pizza or spaghetti.
We had pasta with pork ragu: deliciously rich sauce. Also had quail. This was lovely with great sides. we had 2 winter salads that were amazing and creative.
The caramel gelato was incredible!

I took my girlfriend here for her birthday and had notified the restaurant with my open table reservation beforehand. They gave us a lovely corner booth table and they wrote her a happy birthday card which was presented at the beginning of the meal. An truly special dining experience, with the food and the service being top-class!

I was surprised how fast the food got to our table since they seemed very booked, (maybe a little too fast)We thought that the risotto was very salty, so I did send that back, as we progressed thru the meal, we found the proteins were dry (fish and pork). I chose not to send it back and decided it wasn’t worth the hassle...also had the butternut squash dish, didn’t think much of that...kind of boring. They should try roasting that dish. It would have been so much better.
I really had high hopes for this meal and had only heard good things about this restaurant, but unfortunately I was disappointed. With so many choices in SF, I won’t be back.

I have been to Perbacco at least 3 times in the past and always enjoyed the high standard of the food and the attentive service. This time around the food was very uneven in quality:
*good cocktails
*the persimmon salad was very good, and inventive
*the main course I had -- pork tenderloin with winter vegetables, was unsatisfactory. While the vegetables and trotter cake were good, the tenderloin was seriously overcooked and dried out
*the cannelloni was OK, but too small to be classed as a main course
*the dessert -- the apple walnut cake, was also dried out, maybe from sitting out too long, or leftover from the previous day?
*our waitress seemed harried and rushed; the service was slow
In general, the quality did not match the standard of past visits or the price, which was over $180 for 2 with tip. Particularly disappointing as it was a special occasion.

We fly to San Fran every year for our Anniversary. We have been to Perbaccos 4 of the years this being our 5th for our Anniversary Dinner. Our favorite has always been the wine, cheese and meat selection to start out our evening. We requested the corner booth for two and ended up being seated on an extremely small table with a chair and a crack in the cushions for the bench seating. Horrible place to seat anyone at any time. They did move us two tables down to another small table. Those tables are too small and ruin the ambiance because your neighbors are eating with you. No salami and cheese selection menu (sad). Fish dry..... risotto under cooked. Menu has changed so much and seating was disappointing. We will not be back and will not recommend it.

On a random weekday for a business colleague and I, this was a great choice. It’s not cheap ($125 for two with no alcohol), but the service was attentive and the food was exceptional. If you’d like great food and don’t mind be prices, do it.

I ate here two nights in a row with my fiancé. The service the first nice was fantastic! She was wonderful and recommended wonderful dishes. The second night the service left much tonbe desired. We tried making conversation with the waiter but he was uninterested and even walked away mid conversation at once point. It wasn't until our bill was a few hundred dollars he acknowledged our table. The white truffles were delicious and a must until the restaurant runs out. The service however is inconsistent. If I'm paying $300+ for dinner you better provide my table with service.

Perbacco is one of my favorite spots to visit when I'm in SF. Whether I bring a guest or dine alone at the bar, I always have a lovely experience. The seasonal menu is always a delight, the wine selection as A+ and their Burnt Caramel Gelato is reason enough to fly cross country.
