Sleek and modern with one foot firmly in the Old World is the feeling at Perbacco. The restaurant boasts a brick wall original to the historic 1913 Hind building, with other touches such as a bar top and floor tiles made from white Carrara marble. With 16 seats at the bar and 7 more intimate tables, Perbacco creates an atmosphere for a glass of wine or a light bite. Perbacco also features 2 dining rooms, one on the main floor and a smaller one on the Mezzanine, which has the added allure of serving as "theater", with windows to watch all the action in the kitchen below.
Chef Staffan Terje strives to cook the finest food reflecting the Italian regions of Piemonte and Liguria. Handcrafted, house-made salumi, prosciutto and other charcuterie are not to be missed. Seasonal pastas, a tradition in Piemonte, range from the traditional ravioli to the more exotic agnolotti. Main courses feature dishes such as stuffed quail breast, a selection of seafood dishes, and vegetarian options.

Perbacco Ratings and Reviews
I ate here two nights in a row with my fiancé. The service the first nice was fantastic! She was wonderful and recommended wonderful dishes. The second night the service left much tonbe desired. We tried making conversation with the waiter but he was uninterested and even walked away mid conversation at once point. It wasn't until our bill was a few hundred dollars he acknowledged our table. The white truffles were delicious and a must until the restaurant runs out. The service however is inconsistent. If I'm paying $300+ for dinner you better provide my table with service.
Perbacco is one of my favorite spots to visit when I'm in SF. Whether I bring a guest or dine alone at the bar, I always have a lovely experience. The seasonal menu is always a delight, the wine selection as A+ and their Burnt Caramel Gelato is reason enough to fly cross country.
We enjoyed the delicious homemade pastas and elegant surroundings. My guest was very impressed with the delicately fried fritto misto. I had a special potato & squash gnocchi entree with charred squash puree and sage butter sauce, while the puree texture & flavor missed the mark, the gnocchi itself was tasty. My guest's pork sugo tagliatelle was richly delicious and I wish that I had ordered it or the agnolotti that I usually order. Our server was a little too reserved, while the wine steward hit the perfect mix of friendly and professionally unobtrusive.
Everything was perfect! I put in my reservation that we were celebrating a birthday and when we got there and checked in the hostess wished my bf a happy birthday. We were then seated and a birthday card was on the table. The first thing the server said when he came off was happy birthday to my bf. After we ate our entrees I asked the server to take our picture and he told me to wait a few minutes.. that is because when they brought out dessert it had happy birthday written on the plate and he wanted to get that in our picture! All of the little touches made this place so worth it! Then to top it off the food was amazing !! The sea scallops entree and mozzarella appetizer were delicious! I would highly recommend this place to anyone looking for a great meal and above and beyond service!
We enjoyed an excellent meal at Perbacco. It is one of our favorite restaurants. The service, ambiance and food are outstanding. The pastas are fresh and cooked to perfection. The menu is innovative. The osso bucco was fall-off-the bone tender. They really know how to take care of their customers and make them feel valued and appreciated.
We had a wonderful dinner at Perbacco. Excellent service. Enjoyed all our dishes: roasted octopus salad best I've ever had, heirloom tomato watermelon salad excellent, squid ink pasta dish and pappardelle short rib pasta both top notch. Suggest appetizer portions unless you're very hungry. Request the bread just to get the butter. Also had a wonderful Sicilian wine.
Service was very good, great atmosphere, a little on the loud side. My wife loved her cannelloni. I ordered the pasta that had the duck stuffing. The filling & sauce were very good, but I was very surprised that the pasta was so thick & doughy. We did have a very good dessert and an excellent glass of vin santo.
I ate at Perbacco last March on a trip to SF, and was eager to bring my husband there on my next trip. I found the Salami platter is no longer offered. The service was tentative and we had to remind our waitress twice that we had asked for rolls and water. My husbands pasta was just so-so, and my pork chops had pickled mushrooms which really ruined the taste of everything on the plate. The burnt caramel gelato saved the night - that is so delicious, as are the little almond cookies that come with it. But we have no interest in trying Perbacco again. I'm wondering if there is a new owner/chef??
I enjoyed my meal here! The food was good, the staff was amazingly kind and helpful, and the ambiance was cool. There are somewhat limited vegetarian options, but that's not all that surprising. I tried the Gem Lettuce salad, which was not too exciting, and the raviola, which was very good (though the orange sauce isn't exactly my taste, but I do love ravioli). The wine was also extremely delicious. I'm not sure it's worth the price since I wasn't blown away, but I'm also somewhat conservative with spending money, and it was quite good! It wouldn't be my first choice for my own birthday, but I would probably go back with a friend, since the food was really high quality, the service was great, the decor was cool, and there were a good number of options.
I was here for my birthday dinner and truly enjoyed every moment of this experience. The staff are so nice, courteous and they gave me a handwritten birthday card! The food is amazing - mouth watering, lick the place completely clean good.
We were recommended wines based on our palate descriptions and the server nailed it! I liked my boyfriend's Nebbiolo so much that I got myself a glass of it.
Great spot for after work happy hour drinks/snacks at the bar, work business dinner, get together with your friends or for special occasion.
You are never disappointed when you dine at Perbacco. We went for a business lunch and the upstairs booth was perfect for our our meeting over a relaxing lunch. The heirloom tomato and pressed watermelon salad was refreshing on a warm day. Everyone agreed that the petrale sole was great and for dessert we shared the lemon verbena panna cotta, incredible flavor and just the right finish for a our meal. Service was terrific, just the right level of attention and very friendly. I will be returning in November for the special PASTA! PASTA! PASTA! evening.
