Sleek and modern with one foot firmly in the Old World is the feeling at Perbacco. The restaurant boasts a brick wall original to the historic 1913 Hind building, with other touches such as a bar top and floor tiles made from white Carrara marble. With 16 seats at the bar and 7 more intimate tables, Perbacco creates an atmosphere for a glass of wine or a light bite. Perbacco also features 2 dining rooms, one on the main floor and a smaller one on the Mezzanine, which has the added allure of serving as "theater", with windows to watch all the action in the kitchen below.
Chef Staffan Terje strives to cook the finest food reflecting the Italian regions of Piemonte and Liguria. Handcrafted, house-made salumi, prosciutto and other charcuterie are not to be missed. Seasonal pastas, a tradition in Piemonte, range from the traditional ravioli to the more exotic agnolotti. Main courses feature dishes such as stuffed quail breast, a selection of seafood dishes, and vegetarian options.

Perbacco Ratings and Reviews
Had a great first visit. Server Colin took care of us without pushing the pace or being overly attentive and made thoughtful suggestions as to dishes to order and wine to pair. Will return for more.
-The bread service that helped wipe up the sauce at the bottom of every dish
Service was excellent, they split each course into two so we could easily share, food well prepared and tasty, allowed us to take our time through courses. Birthday celebration - arrived to a card and received special birthday desert. Very close to Embarcadero BART station. Recommend!
Great time at Perbacco! The staff was incredibly helpful (even let me charge my phone and take a phone call in their basement hall away from the noise!!). It’s a great place for a date at the bar or a girl’s night. I was there for a business lunch and it was pretty hard to hear in the alcove. I would definitely recommend sitting in a boot at the front or at the bar. Thanks Perbacco!
PERBACCO is slipping. I’ve been a longtime customer and had some great meals here in the past. The last three visits, the food has been a disappointment. On this visit, the pappardelle with ragu was virtually tasteless. I will have to find another go-to place for lunch.
This is an upscale restaurant...don't think of the typical North Beach Italian restaurant. That said, you will get great Italian food with a modern twist. I prefer Seven Hills because the atmosphere is intimate and the food modern, but this place has scale and enough warmth that it works too The long bar is a fun place to stop if you want a drink or to dine at the bar. Service was simply terrific.
This was our first time visiting Perbacco. Overall it’s a 5/5, but a few things could be tweaked. The temperature in the place was way too warm. I understand it was a colder night for San Fran, but it did not need to be north of 75! The food was great. We did the beet salad which was a perfect 10. The Short Rib rague paperdelle pasta was great and I did the Quail. Both top notch. Finished with the brown butter cake and gelato.
Eaten here many times for business lunches and personal dinners. The antipasti and pasta were up to their usual very high standards, but both secondi fell flat. The pork chop was so over cooked and dry it was barely edible, and the duck was underdone, with a lamentable salad.
Dined on a Saturday before New Year's Eve with friends who flew in to spend 24 hours in SF. We brought our own old Barbaresco Rabaja. We started with the house special octopus and a truffles burrata. Next we shared raviora and papardalle. Our mains were shared, too, the sea bass and scallops. To finish we shared a Gelato and goat cheese with honey, sultanas & almonds. Walked back to the Palace on a beautiful night.
Perbacco is a perfect Italian food alternative to the standard fare at over-touristed North Beach restaurants. There is an understated sophistication to both the atmosphere and the menu at Perbacco. While prices are on the higher side, the exquisite tastes are worth the it. Perbacco is more for foodies than lovers of traditional robust tomato-paste dominated pasta dishes. Bring the family, a friend, a date or go alone. Just go. You'll love it.
Excellent service and authentic northern Italian food. The agnolatti dal plin was by far the best plate we ordered, full of flavor and just the right touch of spiciness. Our daughter and her friend both loved the pappardelle. The seared sea scallops were perfectly browned, but only 4 of them for $35?!? Seemed a tad stingy to me, as was the wine pour for wine by the glass. They were very accommodating when I mistakenly reserved for 3 instead of 4, and the service was excellent: attentive without being invasive.
We had an early dinner after post Christmas shopping downtown. Cocktails were excellent and noise in our seating area was low so we could converse in a normal voice. My duck main course sounded delicious but was just average in flavor. My husband's pork chop main course was outstanding for him. Hazelnut gelato desert awesome and huge (2 large scoops). Nice setting for business meals.
This was a horrible dining experience. Having gone to their partner restaurant, I expected more. The food was horrible and the service was horrible it was way too loud and it took a very, very long time. I will never go back and I will never recommend this place to anyone.
Perbacco is a classy joint. The service is attentive and deft. The ambiance is warm and inviting. The food is delicious and approachable. The whole experience is elegant and glamorous. This is a place for grownups to go to feel coddled, warmed and treasured.
The atmosphere is nice. It's actually much bigger inside than it seems from the front. There is both upstairs and downstairs seating. This was my second time dining there (the first time was for a business lunch & the service was incredibly fast and we did not have reservations). This time I went to dinner by myself . The only thing I would say could have been better is faster service. It took a long time for the wait staff to come back and check on my table. However, in all fairness it was busy. Food was great!!!
The overall experience was not good for a business lunch. Even with a reservation, it took a few minutes to be seated.
The tables are very close together, literally less than two feet apart. Too close for comfort.
The food was good, but under seasoned. $13 for a small bowl of soup that wasn't seasoned properly was a little hard to swallow. No pun intended.
