Perbacco was one of our favorite restaurants pre Covid. The food is even better now. We started with the frito misto which was excellent. Breaded lightly so that everything remained crisp. The maitake mushrooms, once fried, totally change texture and taste, wish there had been more. The olives and beans were also savory. Next we had a caesar salad, the romaine was crisp, fresh white anchovies garnished the salad and the dressing was perfect - Just enough to taste without being soggy, with a hint of garlic. I could have made a meal of the croutons which were so good. For main courses we all opted for the pasta as pastas have always been one of our favorites at Perbacco. They did not disappoint. I had the pappardelle with a rib ragu which was enhanced by a horseradish creme which gave it just a bit of a bite. My husband had the tajarin with a Piedmontese ragu. The sauce was made with a Barbera reduction which went perfectly with the Barbera wine we ordered. Our guest, who was celebrating a milestone birthday, ordered the Agnolotti. This dish has always been one of my favorites regardless of the filling. Last night it was filled with roasted meats and vegetables with a sugo made of the roasted ingredients. It was amazing! The best ever. Dessert was chocolate tart with whipped cream, which sounds very simple but made with Valhrona chocolate, which is so rich and creamy, it made for a perfect end to a perfect meal. Service was impeccable, plates warmed, heat lamp moved to ensure we did not get cold. Very generous portions, great value for the quality. This was the first time that our guest has been out for dinner since the pandemic started. She had a wonderful time and loved every part of the meal and the experience. Highly recommend going to Perbacco and thank you for giving us and her such a good memory. Perbacco has nailed dining out during Covid and we will be back!!
Food is not very good for price. Paid $170 for mediocre Italian food
First trip to Bay Area since covid. Wonderful dinner!
The food was great; the service was very polite but extremely slow. Our appetizers took 1 hour to arrive, and the entrees another hour. Other fellow diners made a much bigger deal than we did and complained very vocally. Apparently the restaurant re-opened very recently and is still trying to come to terms with the COVID-19 reality of operating with a reduced staff and reduced capacity.
The octopus appetizer is outstanding. Homemade tagliatelle reminds me of grandmas. Everything very authentic Italian. So happy to be allowed inside.
We have loved Perbacco and why I booked it when it came available online inside for our out of town guests. Unfortunately it was a cold night and the restaurant was very drafty and cold. No one was able anywhere in the restaurant to remove they coats. We were told it had to be to accomodate Covid requirements, however we had been to Waterbar the previous night and it was normal temperature.
The ambience was also very cold, which has not been our experience previously. Service and food were also not to the standards we have known in the past.
I want this restaurant to succeed, as it has been predictably one of the best Italian restaurants we have in San Francisco. I am writing this so the restaurant knows they must improve to remain in the spotlight and remain a top destination...even under Covid challenges.
Every good wish for Perbacco! Crossing fingers all smooths out soon.
Had a fantastic dinner! Food was delicious and glad the restaurant is back considering the challenging capacity requirements at the moment. Completely safe and taking great precautions so people can eat indoors.
Always great to dine at Perbacco!
Perbacco has excellent food and a lovely wine list. Was glad to see them open up sidewalk dining.
We enjoyed our meal tremendously. Thoughtful delicious dishes and excellent service. Due to the San Francisco restrictions they can only seat on the sidewalk for the time being.
Wonderful food and service in a makeshift outdoor dining space on the street.
Excellent Al Fresco dining alternative with the same great food and service.
Great customer service!
What a find. Nice spot sitting outside by a heater and enjoying delightful pastas. They are a decent size portion so you do not go away hungry.
Perbacco is always a favorite. Great food and an extraordinary wine list. At first it seemed odd to be dining on the sidewalk but it was quite a pleasant experience and I'd be happy to do it again soon.
food was really disappointing and expensive, not worth at all.
We were so totally happy being able to have and enjoy a sit down dinner. It was so delicious. The al fresco dining on sidewalk given restaurants allows sit down service outside only until further ado due to the phased openings during this pandemic conditions. Can be bit windy and chilly but they have outside heaters and bring warm jackets.
Our first night out (outdoor) after the Covid-19 pandemic. The whole staff made it possible in having a great dinner experience even if possible only outside. Definitely a remarkable night for us, I will come back once able to experience their inside seating too.
Perfect outdoor dining.
This is my go to business lunch spot. Very good pastas and salads. Expensive relative to portion size, but I'm always satisfied. Loud for meetings and can take 1.5hrs to get food and finish, but really good dining experience.
The service was great and the duck which was recommended was really tough.. need to fix that chef
Outstanding meal and service! Thank you!
Umberto has put together a great team....over the years my wife and I have dined there 3-5?times a year....very consistent and authentic. Great spot!!
This was a repeat visit to Perbacco and it continues to be a GREAT dining experience. From our greeting at the start to excellent service, delicious food/drink, the evening was THE BEST!!!
Food was just OK, thought it would be better. Appetizer, brussels sprouts were soggy and lacked flavor. Our Server was barely cordial.
Both the pasta (Papadelle) and roasted pork dish were good. Best dish of the night was dessert, the 'ugly Italian cookies".
Restaurant was extremely noisy on a Friday night. All in all just not worth the price.
I didn't stay long because the place was too noisy for conversation. I had selected Perbacco because it appears on an online list of quiet restaurants. Ha!
Should not be considered Italian
Overpriced,loud, poor service
This restaurant is excellent in all categories. The service is impeccable, and the ambience is fun and lively, while upscale at the same time. I love that they have two sizes for their pastas allowing you to have multiple courses on the menu, and not just fill up on pasta. My date has celiac disease, and the waitstaff was highly attentive to this. They have gluten free pasta and bread rolls if you have an allergy. I highly recommend this restaurant!
Nice wine selection. Creative dishes cooked to perfection. Staff was attentive and accommodating.
Great service, knowledgeable trained server and sommelier, involved staff and excellent northern Italian food well prepared. Main dining areas can be noisy.
The pasta were fresh, sauces flavorful.
2 of us shared 3- half orders of different pastas, from short rib bolognese, gnocchi in a tomato cream sauce and purses of duck...all amazing.
It was a great treat.
To all pasta lovers, a must!
Each dish came out perfectly. I loved the tagliatelle, the burrata and their Toscano wine (not sure of the name.) the server was extremely polite and professional!!
The service, presentation, flavors, and menu are all superb. We sat upstairs where it is quieter and our group of four savored grilled octopus, fritto misto, risotto, pear salad, duck, two pastas, and ugly cookies for dessert. Excellent. Corkage is $25. Valet parking $12. A must experience if you enjoy authentic Italian food cooked to perfection.
Awesome waiter. He made the whole experience worthwhile!
We had lunch here, prior to going to the theater for a matinee. We were very impressed with everything at this restaurant. We have travelled many times to Italy, this restaurant would hold up very well over there.
Though lunch hour was busy, staff was attentive and friendly. The winter salad was uplifting and the veal/pork ragu was soft and comforting.
First time to dine here and it exceeded expectations...quality of the food, excellent; service...extremely attentive without hovering or annoying (waited until all diners had finished before busing individual plates and settings); prices were more than reasonable for such a high quality and in San Fran...an overall exceptional value - you most definitely will not be disappointed at Perbacco.
Made reservations for a Tuesday night and the place was packed! Service was excellent and food amazing. Nice cocktails.
I shared that I had a business lunch in the area and asked a friend for a recommendation. My friend said, “well, if it’s important, you’ll go to Perbacco.” He was right. In fact, it was so ideal I’m compelled to write.
The food was amazing and, in my few OpenTable reviews, I’ve commented on how fantastic the food had been first. This time however - and we enjoyed an amazing meal - I have to share how the wait staff were elemental in our experience.
We were helped by Heather and frankly, she was NOTICEABLY professional and made the business lunch relaxing. Her knowledge, timing, awareness, presence... she’s a pro. Thank you, Heather. Well done!!!
Staff and food were both exceptional.
I just want to acknowledge and share my Perbacco experience. I’ll be back.
Real Italian food. Even more: real food from Piedmont.
I was born and raised in Piedmont and their Vitello Tonnato, Tajarin and Nebbiolo made me feel at home.
True authentic Italian food. As they make in Piedmont.
Great service, great restaurant. Reasonably priced for the great quality.
