Italian
Sleek and modern with one foot firmly in the Old World is the feeling at Perbacco. The restaurant boasts a brick wall original to the historic 1913 Hind building, with other touches such as a bar top and floor tiles made from white Carrara marble. With 16 seats at the bar and 7 more intimate tables, Perbacco creates an atmosphere for a glass of wine or a light bite. Perbacco also features 2 dining rooms, one on the main floor and a smaller one on the Mezzanine, which has the added allure of serving as "theater", with windows to watch all the action in the kitchen below. Chef Staffan Terje strives to cook the finest food reflecting the Italian regions of Piemonte and Liguria. Handcrafted, house-made salumi, prosciutto and other charcuterie are not to be missed. Seasonal pastas, a tradition in Piemonte, range from the traditional ravioli to the more exotic agnolotti. Main courses feature dishes such as stuffed quail breast, a selection of seafood dishes, and vegetarian options.

They gave us a quiet table as requested. It was getting livelier as the evening went on but we could still hear each other and had a productive business meal.

Special occasion place.

Corner table was nice and intimate, but too dark.
Birthday card was a Nice touch-would have been good to add a birthday candle to the desert ordered.

Loved the food and the extensive wine list. The service was efficient and friendly. My was so ready for dessert after such a great meal and was disappointed. The sorbets was too light and we were not drawn to the other selections. I wish there was tiramisu, spumoni, or warm fruit tarts with creamy and dense gelato.

Pasta always fresh and excellent. Terrific wine list at all price levels. We always visit Perbacco when in San Francisco. We went directly from the airport to the restaurant. Our flight was delayed but the restaurant accommodated us. A wonderful place to relax and enjoy fine food.

The fritto misto was great, although different than the typical Italian dish. Gnocchi with a tomato sauce were wonderful. It’s a casual vibe. Waitress was very good, offered good recommendations and brought us a complimentary dessert to to celebrate help my husband becoming an Italian citizen that day! For good Italian food and a nice diverse menu, go there.

It was a lovely restaurant for Mother's Day and would work for any nice occasion. All around quality and elegance for the money. (The latter of those often missing in today's "fast casual" world I find.) I'll go back!

The food, bar, wine and dessert program at Perbacco are beyond reproach, even on busy days and holidays - like my last minute reservation for Mother's Day. My guest was visiting from Washington D.C. and kept remarking on how EVERY single detail was so "Perfect" - and it is true. Food does NOT come off of a Sysco truck. The pastas and desserts are made In-House, and the price points are very reasonable. The bread is not made in house, but that is entirely forgivable.

The menu varies daily, to reflect how truly seasonal the kitchen prepares its offerings. I had dinner here two weeks ago and the Burrata starter had a different medley of spring vegetables that were lightly pickled and on this occasion, they were lightly bathed in sweet butter. Both dishes were delightful.

Even details such as table spacing and lighting are *just right* here - in a city where space is at an absolute premium, Perbacco gives you sufficient room to luxuriate and enjoy your meal with a sense of unhurried, graciousness. There is an ambient hum of conversation that warms the dining room, that doesn't intrude upon your own conversation at all; your guests can hold an intimate or animated conversation without competing with other tables.

Starters are phenomenal and the plating is as gorgeous as it is balanced on the palate. Nothing is superfluous, or overly architecturally flamboyant. While Chef and Co-owner -Staffan Terje was born in Sweden, his decades of immersion in Piemontese cuisine is gloriously apparent.

While there are white tablecloths, servers wearing ties over crisp, white shirts, and a visit from restaurant hospitality veteran, Owner Umberto Gibin is almost certainly assured, you never have to feel like a meal here is pretentious. Do dress up a bit, as you are certainly going to have a memorable meal here; you will feel like an honoured guest and a cherished family member each time you dine here, and every time you look forward to returning.

Food and service were excellent - attentive and tasty Italian menu. The noise level was legit loud but the patrons at the table next to us were definitely on the wrong side of sober by the time they started shouting every word!

I was expecting it to be a lot better than it was. I wouldn’t go back. They don’t even have a salad on the menu besides beets. The paparedelle was to el donte and the sauce was not very tasty and not much meat.

The food was fresh and seasonal, well prepared and presented. The service was excellent.

This is a go to spot for me when doing a business dinner in SF. Great menu, outstanding wine list and really knowledgeable and attentive staff. The energy is high enough that you can have a lively conversation and not feel like you are the loudest table in the place.

Apart from the location, and atmosphere, the food is outstanding. The pappardelle is incredible, as are the ravioli dishes.

We went to Perbacco to celebrate my Father's 70th Birthday. They gave him a very sweet hand written card and multiple staff members wished him a happy birthday. Top notch experience form the crumb cleaning of the table to the expert server. Unfortunately the busboy needed a little polish as he kept taking our plates before we were finished but it actually became quite funny. There was unfortunately one woman that was so loud I wanted to throw a dinner roll at her but the rest of the room was lovely. The food was perfection! I would go back anytime!!

I had to conduct a business lunch in Perbacco was the perfect place to do it. I hosted three people from out of town and took them over here to be transported back to a time where service comes first and the food is top notch. Every need it was met before we even could ask for it, wine was poured water was readily available and the food came out promptly on time and extremely well prepared. The ambience is classy and clean not cluttered or overstated… Per Bacot truly takes you back to an era of old school classic dining.
