came with my girlies for restaurant week and enjoyed the experience. lovely ambiance, food good and would recommend friends. will return for another occasion. oh and EXCELLENT cocktails.
My friend and I ate here for Restaurant Week. While service was a bit slow for our limited time, the experience was great overall. Large portions made it difficult to finish (I got mine to go). They were out of chicken for my wrap so they offered a lamb substitute. As someone who doesn't care for lamb, I was very impressed. The lamb dumplings my friend had were also superb. Dessert was likewise a huge amount considering the appetizer and main course. Greek yogurt with fruit sauces is highly recommended.
The main reason I did not give Pera a higher score is that they seem consistently unable to handle gift cards. My in-laws gave us an Open Table gift card at Pera. Our bill was less than the gift card, and Pera struggled to process the balance when I went there with my wife in December. Eventually they gave us a gift card. I took a client there for lunch in March, and they said the gift card was from another branch , and they couldn't honor it. Their system was unable to process the card, and I was forced to pay for the meal on my credit card, with the not-very reassuring assurance that my card would be refunded and the gift card debited. They need to get their act together.
It is hard to find good Turkish food in the city, and even harder to find a good place to sit down and enjoy it in. Pera fits into both of those categories and is the perfect place for a date, a special occasion, or even a place to throw a private party. The food is spectacular, the wine list is superb, and the service is quick and efficient. If you're in the mood for a cuisine that's not normally found in SoHo, Pera is definitely the right spot.

We came here for brunch and the food and drinks were amazing! Other than that...the tables were awkward and low, we basically had to crawl over the seats to get in. Though we got our first round of drinks pretty fast, we finished them before they took our food order. So we ordered a second round and almost finished the second time by the time our food came (about 45 minutes for our order. There were three of us and the place only had maybe two other tables). Again, the food was amazing, we loved all our dishes. Or maybe we were just so hungry and a little buzzed that we would have loved everything.
A friend and I each got the eggs benedict and another got the Shakshuka eggs. So much flavor.
Then it took about another 45 minutes to get our bill.
Since it was winter we didn't eat outside but the outside patio looked like a great cozy place for the summertime. We want to come back but then we remembered that on a slow day we waited forever, can't imagine what the wait would be like while they were busy.
Quality of food is not the best. In Valentine's night, we had dinner. The appetizer was very oily and greasy which was unexpected for this first class restaurant. Also, we didn't have time to finish one course before the next course arrived.
We were at Pera Soho on the New Year's Eve. It was our first (and probably last) time there. We have been to it's other location, Pera Mediterranean Brasserie several times so our expectations were high for this place. However it was horrible!!! We had such a terrible experience. We sat at 9:00 pm. First appetizer arrived at 10:00 pm, second appetizer (3 little pieces of dolma) arrived at 11:00 pm and the main dish was served to our table at 11:50 pm!!! Needless to say we could not enjoy the night because we kept waiting for the food to be served all night. The food was not only served late it also was not tasty at all. The desert served under the name of "Profiterole" was just a tiny piece of cake covered with chocolate mousse!!! I would definitely leave the restaurant if it was not the New Year's Eve. So disappointed.
Everything was on point. The whole time! Favorite food item was Spicy Pepper and Walnut Muammara! Licked the dish! My friend ate the Lamb Roll and said it was amazing. I was disappointed with the Brussel Sprout. Really turned off by them. Also wasn't too impressed with the Mediterranean Octopus. Server was attentive, didn't hover over us even though the place was empty. I will be back!
really great food but absolutely deathly quiet for a Tue evening. Ate at the midtown Pera the following night which was hopping. Should be busier, why is t it?
The atmosphere is perfect to take out your girlfriend/boyfriend even the bar area is sophisticated. It is noisy especially when groups are there but too romantic. I went with a friend and menu is too small for a location like that. The display is perfect. I wouldn't celebrate my birthday here unless I'm celebrating with my bf/gf or husband/wife. One thing THAT WAS AMAZING: we ordered soemthing we didn't know and didn't like it, they didn't even charge us. Wow. That WASS very proffesionally held.
Having been to Pera about two years ago, we were eager to return. Though the weather did not permit the chic patio, our inside table was discreet (behind the welcome desk). This visit was a little disappointing. Looking for a well-rounded red wine, we needed assistance from the sommelier who was hard-pressed to recommend one under $70. What we ended up was fine enough but the challenge was obvious. My companion's roasted Brussels sprouts were baked not roasted; his other veggie dish flat. Both disappointments. The watermelon salad was terrific. The steak, served with a cold dipping sauce, was a bit chewy (as a medium-rare), but very ample for the price. The place, on a Friday evening, was not hopping. Was this an indication of something?
Really beautiful setting with outdoor patio and balcony. Bar is comfortably chic and dining room is funky. The food was not boring and expected Turkish. What a wonderful surprise! We had a couple amazing meze (red lentil kofte & barbounia in grape leaves) that I had never seen/had before. They were delicious! Unlike some of the reviews here, I thought the final bill was very reasonable (I was actually surprised how little it was).
We enjoyed a great meal with great service on a wonderfully warm, sunny Fall Friday, in their lovely outdoor dining area.
The menu had something for everyone while still maintaining it's Mediterranean flare.
The cocktails were heavy handed. The food was atrocious (especially the octopus and the greek salad). We spend over $100 basically for decent service. Do not go here.
We were looking for a last minute Friday night dinner in Soho, and Pera exceeded our expectations in every way. The food was excellent and the outdoor dining was fantastic. Really good service too. If you like Mediterranean, it's a great choice.
I did a quick search to see what was available in Soho on a friday night. And that's how I ended up here.
The pera cocktail tasted like cough syrup. A cocktail involving sour cherry (visne) should be hard to mess up, but somehow they did.
The food was pretty uninspiring. When we asked how the chef recommended the lamb chops, the first response was "well done"... I have lived in Turkey (where it seems the menu derives inspiration), and there are plenty better options for this cuisine. If you want a nice outdoor space to drink efes beer, then this place is good. Otherwise overpriced, and underwhelming.
Absolutly going back I love the good and the waiter
It was a gem to find on a Sunday afternoon. My girlfriends and I sat outside for drinks. We did feel a little bit of a tense vibe which started with whoever seated us. There also seemed to be pressure from the server to keep asking us what we wanted. I get he was trying to be a good worker but it became annoying as we only wanted to hang out and drink. (I think it was due to an intense management style) Otherwise the atmosphere is awesome and the music is calm and enjoyable. A great spot!
Delicious international cuisine, great location in Soho, beautiful garden. Romantic.
I took my husband here for his birthday. The great service started with the confirmation call to make sure we still planned on attending for dinner. The outdoor space was romantic but not stuffy. I enjoyed my drinks. The food was fantastic, especially the lamb rolled in philo. It was like eating a mini gourmet gyro. The Baklava was insane.
Thanks for a great night.
Nice outdoor area and nice quaint rooftop
Loved the bass with lentils, it was perfect! Usually not a fan of sweet potato until that night. The outdoor area is lovely. Look forward to coming back.
Terrace is lovely for a delicious cocktail but at dusk we got eaten alive by Mosquitos! Food was good but not excellent. Service was very attentive
Give Pera Soho a try next time you are looking for something a little different. The menu, tapas and small plates are just wonderful. Plan to stay a while so you can try many things, the menu is extensive. Outside dining is lovely.
The meal began with stale bread, mediocre drinks without garnishes. The appetizers and entrees were somewhat better, especially the Manti, which was quite good, but overall, the food did not live up to the prices or ambiance. It seemed more like it should be $12-$20 entrees, not $25-$35.
We had a great birthday dinner! Good turkish style food! Nice and friendly atmosphere!
We were late for our reservation, so did not mind that a request for an outdoor table could not be honored. The table we were shown to was however a very close second to our desired location. Staff were polite, friendly and attentive. Our wine selection, with our server's assistance was just right, and all the food selections delicious. For the most part large parties in adjoining rooms were not intrusive, until very late, so all in all a successful outing.
The open air dining is terrific. One would never know you are in the city. The food is great. Our family of four with two young children loved the food; ordered many items to share.
Nice service. Waiters friendly. After dinner we did not feel forced to leave like in many other restaurants. Try to eat in the yard very pleasant.
Excellent Service, I saw all the poor reviews, but I went at 6:30pm on a Saturday evening, the place wasn't empty, but it wasn't full either. The wait staff was most certainly on the ball.
The food at Pera Soho is nothing like the food at Pera Midtown, which I've been to numerous times and is quite tasty. At Pera Soho we had sliders with stale buns (we sent them back and received tasteless sliders the second time around), bland fish and over charred steak. If you want to eat good food, I'd avoid at all costs.
Pera used to have great Mediterranean cuisine but the food quality has diminished severely and the service is now amateurish. The outdoor garden is lovely but the fans that are supposed to circulate the air were misplaced causing the area to be stuffy. Too bad as this used to be a great place.
Dining At Pera was a bummer. We booked a table for 09:30, which is late, but suited our plans, and we got poor service, not so good wine, the bread was dry and our waitor left work before our meal ended.. In addition the bar closed before we were finished eating so we could not order more wine if we wanted..
The whole experience at Pera was a bummer, since we also went there for the rooftop terrace and it was closed. Hopefully you will have a better experience than us at Pera, but I am sorry that I will not recommend this restaurant to others...
Unfortunatley we could not sit outside due to rain. But inside was just as good. Service was very attentive and friendly! Food (we had the mezze menu) was very good. I did not like so much the calamaris but I guess that was me since my friends liked it. The meat was excellent. Would go here again.
Service was slow, took us two hours to get our main course, but our server, Ulysses, was fantastic, and the atmosphere was conducive to conversation, so we did not mind the wait. Ulysses profusely apologized for our slow service and comped some of our food and wine. I would definitely return in the future. Food was absolutely outstanding, and the joke was it had to be flown in directly from Turkey, which is why it took so long to come out.
She did a fantastic job of making all 12 of us VERY happy. Her suggestions were spot-on. Her service was quick and never without a smile. She is a gem. The food was phenomenal as always! Great experience!
we had a lunch party for 10 people. Lunch is quiet, so you would think service would be very good. It was very slow took along time to get meals. Two of the appetizers were done wrong. Overall we were happy and might go back again.
rainy day, but Outdoor seating looked really cool, would come by for that to try out.
The service was slow and disorganized (we waited forever for just water and the pauses between courses was unacceptably long). The food was fine but really nothing special. Chicken and rice dish had mushy overcooked rice and chicken sloppily piled on top - like something you would get at a food cart. I have had very positive experiences at the midtown location, so was not expecting to be so disappointed. Perhaps it is the Soho effect - with such a prime location, they don't have to try too hard. Wish I had better things to say about the service and food because the outdoor space is lovely - secluded and airy - you feel far from NYC. Go for drinks and eat elsewhere.
Sigrid, our server, has difficulty explaining the dishes. This is the second time she's exhibited this problem. She'll describe a dish and then after it's been ordered and arrives different from her description, she backtracks. Management needs to speak with her about accurately describing the dishes. If she says a salad "is on a bed of greens" or that an entree "comes with bulgur", then they should arrive that way. No excuses.
