Pera derives its name from an elegant neighborhood in Istanbul that has served as the melting pot for many cultures and cuisines since the 17th century. Something on the menu for carnivores and vegetarians.
it took a bit of time for the food to come out but everything was really good otherwise
Pera is always a wonderful and unique place to go...and of course its location is sensational especially convenient for mid-town visitors and locals alike to meet for a meal.
Pera Mediterranean Brasserie never disappoints. Service and food were excellent. There’s a reason why I selected them to be the place where I celebrated my wedding reception 3 years ago. Will be dining there again soon.
This is Mediterranean cuisine with heavy emphasis on meat (steak, lamb), and not much on seafood, except for appetizers. The octopus was outstanding, tender, with very interesting seasoning. Frites were over-herbed and steak was very good but basic. It looks like all meats are grilled which leads to tasty food but not very imaginative. The problem is service, which seems to be an issue in several hotels and restaurants in New York. Our server was not very well informed about how food was prepared and what was available. Port, 3 varieties, was on the dessert menu but unavailable, apparently a victim of the supply chain. Dessert took so long to come out that we gave out. A flat ending to what could have been a good dinner. It was Sat. night and the restaurant was not full.
Dinner was interrupted by cockroaches coming across our booth. The wait staff killed the first, my husband killed another before we asked to move. The restaurant took their time giving us the check when we asked to leave and did not compensate the meal. They reset the place we were sitting in with plans to seat someone else in the spot.
Son in town
Delicious Mediterranean meals- lovely ambiance, everything we ordered was really tasty! Definitely will be back!
Apps better than the main courses, but overall this is a good spot.
Pera is a jewel in the grand central area. Lovely inside, great service and good food. Also one of the few places you can get a reservation online in the area.
We had a great team dinner outside at Pera. The food was very good and a great value. However, the service was rather slow.
We had a great experience here. The restaurant is warm and inviting with colors of gold. Our table enjoyed the dip trio as an appetizer. The homemade pita chips held lots of dip! Very yummy. The lamb and steak kabobs were a standout. Everything was flavorful and had that great charcoal grilled taste. The dessert was chocolate soufflé but it wasn’t a traditional chocolate soufflé, more like a chocolate lava cake that was overcooked.
I came here as a pre-theater meal. Upon arrival it took ten minutes for the host to even appear at the host stand and take us to our table — he was nowhere to be found and wasn’t seating people.
Then when we sat we explained our tight timeline to the waitress which she assured could be done. It was not. We ended up paying for two extremely expensive entrees that didn’t make it to us in time. We had to basically just abandon our table without anyone checking on us, correcting our prepaid bill, or apologizing.
I will never return here.
Great atmosphere and delicious and interesting food. We will definitely go back.
The Mediterranean food here is excellent. We got the appetizer sampler & the chicken & beef kabobs. There’s quite a vegan/vegetarian selection to choose from as well. Highly recommended!
We were in NY for a long weekend and ate at Pera pre-theater. It was early, so very quiet. Not sure what it would be like when full. The atmosphere is lovely, the food very good. I had salmon, which was good, but not the best I’ve ever had. My friend had a vegetarian dish, which she loved. The service was excellent and the prices were very reasonable. I would definitely eat there again.
Good food, attentive service, fun atmosphere, we enjoyed our evening at Pera!
Met a friend I hadn’t seen in a few years. Pera was always a pre-pandemic favorite of mine. I am so glad this wonderful restaurant made it through the pandemic. The greeter/maitre d was the absolute best host and took care of us as it got crowded. By 7:30-8:00 the restaurant was completely crowded with 1 large group. Very very noisy. However I “welcomed” this as a sign that the city’s fine restaurants are coming back. Even though I have retired and now live in Westchester, it’s a convenient train ride into Grand Central, perfect location. Will definitely return soon!
Great place for a group! Food was fantastic. Fun vibe, great ambiance.
Good service and a great selection of main dishes to choose from.
We had a very nice dinner at Pera. The lamb dish was incredibly flavorful, juicy and tasty on its own but delicious when eaten with the included relishes/sides. My wife enjoyed the salmon, too, though she perhaps prefers it slightly more raw. A smokey old fashioned was literally smokey (as in smoke coming out of the glass) rather than peaty, but I enjoyed the visual effect & the "cap gun" smell. Baclava (3 pieces) was delicious with good flavor without being sickly sweet, and perfect for 2 to share. We would definitely eat here again.
Gorgeous ambiance and great staff. Food is excellent
Great food and service!
Great place for a good conversation over delicious food
This place is a gem .. great service all around, and the food was beautifully seasoned and prepared. While everyone has different taste in background music, I found the blend of 60s/70s/80s “favorites” was fun and sing-alongable. The only downside for our visit was a very loud nearby table of 50-somethings who wanted to make sure you overheard the stories of their glamorous lives, but this wasn’t the fault of the venue. Check out this place!
Service continues to be really slow and indifferent. Not idea when you are trying to have a business lunch. The water guys are pretty quick. It’s the actual waiters that are not that great. The last three times, my food arrived tepid or cold even though I specifically asked the server to make sure it’s warm the third time. Not great esp as the weather gets colder.
Food is ok. The grilled artichokes are great. Would like a few more healthy, small, plant forward dishes like that.
Really tasty food. Don’t be nervous with the dated, slightly tired decor and old school printed menus. The food is fresh and perfect. The service is delightful and friendly. The grilled artichoke was incredible. But every dish we all shared was tasty.
Akada is great choice for mains, rice pudding is good too.
Fantastic food and service. Had the
Smokey Mediterranean Old Fashioned - it was smoke'n!
Slow service, food was tasty but could have used some balanced sides.
Service was great and food was delicious. Our server was very attentive.
Perfect after work quick dinner. Good food and service.
Great food great service. Closes at 10 pm though so for early dinners only
We had a large party and the staff was welcoming and accommodating. Food was delicious, service excellent, and it was a great evening.
We had an absolutely incredible business lunch and are so glad we discovered this location.
Very average. A long wait to order a drink upon arriving as the bar was closed and the hostess informed us there were “many large parties” and “not enough staff”. Lovely greeting. Service was very off. Room was loud with little ambiance. The food was just okay. Way overpriced if you ask me. Would not recommend! No idea why they would elect to close the bar for the night when the dining room was full?
Delicious Mediterranean dishes. Great wine list and personable staff
Our meals were absolutely delicious but service could be kicked up a notch.
Surprised, disappointed. Steak was tough. (Fries delicious.) Salad arrived after nearly an hour and main course 3 seconds later.
