We were in town for a work meeting. Pera was recommended to us by a local. I had beef and lamb shashlik and it was perfect. Not only were the spices excellent, the meat was tender and the fries were tasty. Our table shared sautéed spinach and mushrooms. Both sides had great flavor. The sautéed spinach had a lot of garlic and some pine nuts, which was perfect for our group.
Midtown is probably my least favorite neighborhood for dining out. Unless I am going to Le Bernardin (or other Michelin rated restaurants) but that would not be a dinner I would be paying for - it would be a business expense or a special occasion dinner.
Food is good at Pera Mediterranean Brasserie. Service is even better - servers are friendly with great suggestions. All around a nice experience but nothing out of this world. It is a safe bet if you need a restaurant near Grand Central Station. If location/being around Grand Central is not a priority, I would suggest visiting their sister restaurant, Pera Soho.
This was my second time and Pera, and I would return for a third. It's very hard to find a place in Midtown that is good and reasonably priced, Pera is one if the few. The dips and chicken main dish, in particular, were very tasty. Service was fine. I wouldn't go out of my way to eat at Pera, but if you need to eat in the neighborhood, it's a great choice.
Very nice decor, mediocre food, service pushy to consume sparkling water at 8$ a bottle , very bad wine selection...the Rose from Provence was subpar.... thankfully, 50% off on Friday night....defensive waitress ..expensive for thr quality. will probably not go back. There are sp many Mediterranean restaurants so much better like Avra
We are never disappointed with Pera. The food is delicious and service is attentive. The midtown location is perfect for meeting up with friends and family who are visiting or need a centrally located restaurant.
Always a good meal and good overall experience. Service was a bit slow and lacking this time, but has never been in the past. Will continue to go back!
I have been to Pera several times, as it is convenient to GCT and because I like Mediterranean cuisine. Every friend that I have brought there has liked it very much. I have to say that the service was above excellent the other day, when all the Metro North trains were stuck on the tracks for an hour due to tornado warnings. I called the restaurant and explained that my husband and I did not know when we would be able to make it to the restaurant as the railroad itself did not know when the trains would start running, but to hold my reservation. I also told them to please let the friends I had invited know that we were going to be late. My friends arrived and the staff did inform them that we would be late, and my friends said they were treated very, very well. It says a lot when a busy restaurant can pass on a message and honor a reservation, even under very unusual circumstances. Thank you, Pera!
This restaurant is in the noisy heart of midtown, but is relaxed and lovely on the weekends. The weekend dinner specials are bargains, and the crowd has gone elsewhere, so there is time to enjoy the food and drink properly while conversing with your dinner companions at a civilized volume.
Service was excellent - appetizers were excellent but the Mother’s Day entrees were just ok. The lamb burger was terrible but the chicken was very good. Other than the misfire on the entrées, everything else was great for a wonderful Mother’s Day celebration.
Great food and special menu was perfect for a large group. Staff were very accommodating in finding us a larger table after our group unexpectedly grew from 6 to 9 people. Not cheap, but worth the price.
Excellent food. Beautiful decor, but lighting is so dim that it’s very hard to read the menu.
I have eaten here many times and the food is always good and the service is up to par. A bonus was 1/2 price bottles of wine on Friday nights.
I like Mediterranean cuisine that's why I took my mother there. But I have to say compared to other Mediterranean restaurants I've been to, the food at Pera is mediocre at best. The service is ok and the location is close to grand central station. That's about it. I actually wish I took my mother somewhere else.
Great restaurant and calming environment for a business lunch. The food is delicious and restaurant has an upscale refined ambiance that’s both modern and classic. Very enjoyable and marvelous place for a business lunch.
As usual excelente. Eder time we come to NY we like to eat at Pera
The chicken kabobs are delicious and the happy hour is a great value because the wine and food options are very good.
Great food .... service staff needs better training
Arranged to meet up with friends here as I discovered it several years ago. I have lived in Turkey for 5 years in the 70s and the late 90s and cook all of the Turkish cuisine. So, I am particular about my Turkish food especially the mezes. Everything was up to snuff except the mucvet which was done as a deep fried ball like arancini. I prefer mine as fritters.
Fabulous wines and short ribs. Great deal on wines by the bottle
Excellent food - particularly the Chicken Shashlik. Our server was absent most of the time which made the dining experience very long and less pleasant. On multiple occasions, we had to ask for service from other waiters, busboys and even the maitre'd. For the cost, I would expect better (any) attention.
Excellent Mediterranean food. Beer/wine only but 1/2 priced bottles of wine (at least on Sunday nights)
We really Pera! From the great appetizers to the salad and then the delicious baby lamb chops! We will definitely be back:)
This is my go-to lunch spot in my work neighborhood. Although it's always very busy, the service is always attentive and the food always impresses my dining companions. I've never been disappointed yet! I just wish the acoustics were better as it is hard to have a conversation at lunch.
The food was delicious. The staff was attentive and cheerful. The noise level was too loud, difficult to converse.
I entered Pera through the dark, opaque doors hoping I chose the right door (there are two sets and with them being opaque I couldn’t tell if I was in the right place and if, in fact, the place was open.) Once inside the host was welcoming and friendly and I sat immediately. Waiting on a friend, I was offered a drink quickly but declined. The waiter was friendly, and my friend and I never felt rushed; we took full advantage (lol!) as we haven’t seen each other in years. I chose a wine from their varied list (Greek! Italian! Spanish! South American! Your choice!) but they didn’t have the one from France I had selected. Went with a Pinot from willamette valley which was good. It took far too long for the wine to arrive (a pet peeve of mine; get the wine flowing, people!). I had a delish salad with shrimp (lots of nice salad options) and my friend had the bronzino. Had a side of spinach was really flavorful. We didn’t have dessert. We sat and lingered and no one rushed us out. Really a lovely dining experience, albeit a bit snug as we were at a two top and the two next to us was very close. Would go back. Seemed like there was a lively bar scene earlier on, but the place was quiet by the time we left (1030pm). Seems it’s a nice option for drinks straight from work, as it’s midtown and close to grand central.
Food was flavorful, creative and fresh. Service was odd: at both our table and the next one main courses came out while appetizers were still only half eaten -- and no, we are not slow eaters. I might be wooed, cajoled, bribed into understanding that if the restaurant was packed and waiters eager to turn tables (still: ugh), but the place was 2/3 empty. This, and the partial clearing of plates while some guests are still eating, leaving them uncomfortable, seem to have become ubiquitous. Come on management, proper training please!!
We were among the last diners at 8:30 on a Monday evening. Restaurant was quiet but we felt comfortable and welcomed. Service was very good. Food was good but not outstanding. Best dish was the Duo of lamb and beef - very good indeed.
The service was definitely lacking
We enjoyed a delicious and relaxed lunch. The service was nice, efficient and not annoying.
The staff were great from greeting our group, seating, and service. Would highly recommend for their great service and professionalism during a business lunch. They were quick and were able to accommodate to our 1hr schedule.
Excellent service and food. The stuffed grape leaves and the warm hummus as well as the bread are extraordinarily good. The lamb is always excellent.
We were looking for this cuisine - this was our first time at this restaurant. Good staff, fine food, a bit noisy but well worth the visit
Excellent foot, especially for vegetarians
the only flaw (big one) was that they had only ONE waiter for the whole restaurant; kind of bizarre, the manager told us that this was normal for them on saturday
this meant that poor Raoul (our waiter) was running table to table! felt bad for the guy!
Good food, good service but noise level interfered with dinner experience.
This was my second time at Pera, and I was a bit underwhelmed. I felt that the food was priced quite high for the quantity served. My daughter's fish casserole was tiny and served at a ridiculously hot temperature. Baklava was perfect - not too sweet. The service was adequate and our server was polite, but I did have to ask for him a couple of times. Its big plus is its convenience to Grand Central Station.
The food was creative and delicious.
The restaurant is beautiful and comfortable, maybe a bit too quiet.
The wait staff was professional, attentive and friendly.
I will definitely go back and highly recommend to other friends as the location is also super convenient.
good food and good for groups - many big tables - love the sampler on the appetizer list - mom approved and kid approved
Food was great and the price was very good. Wine pairings for Vday were $25. The service was outstanding. Its a nice place for special occasions. I also enjoy the live jazz band. I would recommend it to anyone.
