In every business, your first impression is always the most important. While we enjoy the delicious food and the great service from the SERVERS at Pepes, the host staff are the weakest part of the experience. In fact, they have quite an attitude and make you feel as though they’re doing YOU a favor by coming to the restaurant. We recently planned dinner for a party of 6 for 9:00pm on 10/26. Upon arrival, the gentleman host said he had to seat us outside near space heaters (it was 45 degrees out) because “you didn’t return our confirmation call.” I checked my phone and received a call at 1:10pm, which is when I’m working. I’m a teacher and don’t take calls during the day. Had the restaurant been packed, then we could understand the seating issue. But it wasn’t. In fact, there were TWO tables for six ready with place settings, but they were not offered to us even when we inquired. My husband and I live in town and we entertain lots of folks. We dine at Pepes rather frequently, and we’ve noticed this past season that the host staff (one exception) really don’t give a crap about customer service, nor do they seem to care that they’re essentially the face of the business; the set the time for the experience. Pepes better step this part up or they’ll find two townies and their friends opting to dine anywhere else but Pepes. Perhaps the hosts should take a page from the servers’ book. We’ve never had a problem with service once seated, and the food is always great.
Food was only so-so considering the rather high prices per entree. Also, drinks were way overpriced. The entrance area and first dining area smelled of mold.
A bit disappointing. My companion ordered the ribeye steak, which was a bit tough and hard to cut, even with a steak knife. I ordered the seafood trio puttanesca which was served with a perfectly al dente pasta and an obligatory two scallops, two shrimp, several rather small mussels with barely enough puttanesca sauce. I asked for more sauce and waited >10 long minutes while my food became cold waiting for the sauce to arrive.
Waitress was nice enough, but she brought the check to the table without prompting and without even asking if we wanted dessert.
Very good food. We have been here a few times. My only reservation is that they don't accept AMEX. It really is a deterrent as many people are either Visa or AMEX when it comes to budgeting for vacations. Points, people! We all like to collect them. Get with the program.
Even with slightly cooler weather, the deck was comfortable and beautiful. The specials were sophisticated and locally sources. Service was excellent.
The only issue was it took a while to pay the bill. This part should have been a bit more efficient. The waiter kept on serving other clients although we had asked him several times.
Pepe's Wharf is a Provincetown tradition, but it took me 19 years to get there. Although it is not low-cost, I found my lobster bisque portion skimpy, and not the best I have ever had. The coleslaw was okay. However, my four guests praised their food (one said the lobster roll was the best she had ever had anywhere). were happy with the wine choices, and were very happy about the view from the upper deck - which is indeed fantastic. We had reservations, but they would not seat me until another two of the five arrived. While I was waiting a larger party came. One had a broken foot and did not want to climb up to the open deck. The host seated them at the otherwise empty downstairs area, although not by the water, which was closed. I wouldn't go there on a regular basis, but for a special occasion it would get my vote.
Simply a treat in every way! Cataplana was superb.
Although under new ownership, it is at least as spectacular as before.
Ambiance was great. Food is pretty good, but one of our burgers came out over done. We sent it back and it came out over done again. When the bill came the burger was on it. Never once did the waiter ever apologize and never did he offer to have it removed from the bill. We had to ask to have the burger removed and then the waiter got snippy.
One of the best restaurants in town
Food was very good, but the service was less than stellar. In her defense, she was assigned roughly 10 tables to attend to. Location and ambiance was great and we had stopped by at lunch for drinks at the upstairs bar.
Tolles Essen, super Ausblick, nettes Personal. Leider keinen Espresso.
Love Pepe's. Been for lunch many times. Right on the water, so beautiful view of the harbor. Recently went for dinner with friends and the ambiance was really nice. Great food and service.
First time in all the years coming to Ptown and will be on our list for future to eat at.
Started with loud conversation by an employee conversing with customers at next table (tables are close together). We asked to be moved for better view and quiet. We achieved both. Food was very good but small portions for the price. They indicate they are vegetarian friendly but very few choices. Good kale salad and the butterscotch bread pudding did not disappoint.
Mediocre food for high prices. $$$$$$$$$$$$$&$
I personally don’t find the host staff to be very friendly or accommodating. The food is very good and the location is unmatchable but the service was slow and not very attentive. We waited 45 minutes for our first cocktail from the moment we sat down and we were never offered a second round of drinks.
One of our guest had to go to the bar to see what the problem was.
We loved our dinner but didn’t have a great dining experience as we had in the past.
Pepe’ has been such a treat to frequent excellent staff and great food and drinks and the best view
The waterfront location couldn't be better. The menu was varied, the fish fresh, and service excellent.
Great service young lady made wonderful suggestions that were spot on! This is a gem not to be missed!
Lamb shanks were awesome! Beautiful setting!
Besides the spectacular views the food and service is great. Lots of good lunch dishes leaning toward seafood. While you are ordering the appetizers are served with the wireless communication to the kitchen!
Ambience, service, cuisine. Pepe's has it all...with a view right on the water!
Great service, amazing food and spectacular views
Great food, well prepared. Great service and a spectacular view
Went to Pepe's this Tuesday night. Traveling and thus dining alone; something I am very used to and very comfortable with. Made an advance reservation, obviously through Open Table, for an early time so as not to compete with the crowds. Seated by hostess' assistant, at a table well back from the water, with empty two-seaters in front of me. After sitting there a minute, I didn't see why I couldn't move up one table closer to the water and the gorgeous sunset I was there to see. Most tables were still empty at this point. I asked if I could move up one table; hostess said loudly and snottily "what's the difference?" My waiter apologized for the "mix up" on tables and was as nice as could be throughout the dinner. However I learned from overhearing other tables that he only told me a couple of the multiple specials. I also observed while sitting there that all the other tables were being served plates of bread. Asked if I could have one and he brought it to me.
As I said, I eat alone all the time because I travel a lot and am generally treated wonderfully. I don't know whether my treatment was due to me being one person or just their general customer service posture. The food was fine (already can't remember what it was), but I won't bother to go back just because I can see the harbor.
Another important thing to know if you want to reserve: after you put in your time and party # through Open Table, there are some words in a paragraph that inform you that you will be charged $25 if you cancel within 24 hours. That is a sleazy way of doing business because you might get that far within OT reservation system and want to change something, and allegedly you will be charged $25. How they would get that from you I have no idea, but it adds to feeling this place is not a class act.
Our experience at Pepe’s couldn’t have been better. The hostesses were friendly, server hospitable and the food was fantastic. Our server, Cinderella was very helpful with food suggestions and made us feel welcome. The view was incredible. It’s definitely on the list of our favorite places.
Excellent service and very good food! Enjoyed the fish of the day recommendation.
Lovely atmosphere for dining. Food was excellent. Music too loud - got in the way of conversation at the table. We didn't see the need for music at all but if there is to be music, it should be soft "elevator" music . We were very happy with our meal and will definitely return and recommend Pepe's to friends,
Pepe’s is always an enjoyable experience with great view.
Love the oysters rockafeller and went back especially to have them. Our lunches were good. Service was friendly and efficient too.
Great food with a great view!!! Went twice in a row during our week vacation.
We enjoyed our lunch but when we returned later with more people & a baby they wouldn’t allow us to sit at a table for apps & drinks and there were enough tables.
Our waiter Zack was excellent, food was outstanding and the views were fantastic. We had two reservations for 4 that they were able to combine so we could eat as a large group. The Helen Haze cocktail was super delicious!
I love Pepe’s anytime but Pepe’s in the summer is not to be missed. Our table was practically on the beach. We could see the bait fish swimming close to the beach! The food was delicious and the waiter was charming and the drinks were perfect!
New P-town favorite. Three meals at Pepe’s during our week in town.
Awesome restaurant! Was all good drinks, food and service! Location is perfect especially on a nice day or evening.
Nice restaurant with a great view in Provincetown. The blackened cod sandwich was terrific.
