Permanently Closed - Pentola
Disappointing that a number of items not available. Sediment in bottom of glass of served white wine. Food did not arrive until 30 minutes after order. Then salad arrived, entrée serving overlapped the salad eating.
Poor slow service. Medicore food. Not worth the price. Could have went to artichoke Cafe for these prices.
When the waiter starts off by listing all the items on the menu they are out of, it is not a good start. Then we proceeded to order a few things only to have him come back and tell us they were out of those items as well. I ordered a salad and did not receive the one I ordered. I questioned the waiter about it and he didn't seem to want to listen. We went and got the menu again to verify that I got the wrong salad. That is when he told us they were probably out of the ingredients for that salad as well. This was on a Saturday night so they should not be out of food. Waiter hinted that the restaurant might be closing. Probably will if they have issues like this.
Good food at a great price.Super good value for the quality of food you receive. Service was very good after a stumble in the beginning. Overall, a pleasant experience.
Everything was great. Definitely a level above typical Albuquerque dining
Food was overall good. Pizza crust would be better if the bottom was crispy. Mine was a little soggy, maybe because I had a veggie pizza with a lot of toppings.
This restaurant recently changed its name with a "new" menu, but under the same management. As "Piatanzi" it was a reliable neighborhood venue and served a nice selection of Italian favorites with a good wine list. Something has since gone awry. Greatly reduced availability of wines, added on a few new items and subtracted others. We dined as a group of three ordering a pasta dish (up to their prior standard) a "Basque Stew" ...Not well done at all, was more like a tasteless Bouillabaisse with an over helping of lime and finally a salade Nicose that was subpar but massive. Give me quality not quantity. Because of prior history of excellence am willing to give this place another try, but they clearly need to return to their "glory" days if they are to keep their clientele.
We had hoped when they changed their name and menu it might be a little better. Nope it got worse and the menu didn't really change. Why have a wine list when you don't have any of the wine in stock?? The service was iffy at best and the food was the worst meal I have ever had out, that includes fast food places. I will not be going back again.
We showed up for our 03/22/19 reservations to see only an empty parking lot and an unlit building. I could see a red tag on the door and walked up to read that it had been closed by the Environmental Health Department.
Pentola will fix all problems and be reopened in a couple of days and we will be able to eat in next Friday's Business Journal exactly what the violations were. We love the place and usually eat here every other Friday and will probably continue to do so if this is not the death of their already marginal business.
We enjoyed three different appetizers and all three were well prepared and very tasty. The fried Brussel sprouts were crispy and not greasy at all, the charcuterie board had three delicious types of meat and three unique kinds of cheese. Finally, the bruschetta was crispy and the house-made mozzarella was tender and well-balanced.
Our server was attentive but never bothersome and provided very good recommendations on the menu and wine list.
Overall, a wonderful date night that was fun and relaxing!
Bottom line is this: when you have one server on the floor on a Saturday night to serve everyone, things are going to go south. And they did. Green chili pizza was not cooked all the way through as well.
The service was good, very friendly staff. The bread was delicious! But the pasta was quite disappointing, and the chicken was so the dry that we couldn't even finish a small shared dish.
There are several intriguing selections on the menu. I enjoyed the salmon. Will have to go back to try out some of the other entrees.
It took a very long time to get our food. I had ordered the streak and when I got it, it was cold. The server said they had just changed their name and some menu items. Perhaps the chef was having a hard time figuring out the new menu items. Not sure if I'll go back
Food was great as always. A bit noisy. The wine list has changed recently and our Italian favorites are gone.
We hadn’t been to Piatanzi for awhile and were looking forward to our favorite, simple dishes—linguini marinara with meatballs for me and sausage for my husband. Unfortunately, someone had changed the marinara recipe. The sauce looked orange rather than red and had virtually no flavor. Very disappointing. The service was very good, the wine fine, but it wasn’t the experience we were used to. ☹️
Our server had a very poor attitude, very smug, unhelpful with menu options. They were out of steak and he didn't mention it at all until ordering. Wings were very dry, will e menu did not reflect what was available. Very pricey for the quantity of food. Disappointed.
We arrived at 7:15 for a 7:30 reservation on New Year's Eve. The hostess looked shell shocked, and asked if we would be willing to eat at the bar, because there were no tables. We said no--it was New Year's Eve. We sat at the bar for a bit, and no one came to take a drink order. We were then seated. Service was not good. Never received bread plates. Waiter seemed very rushed. Questioned my asking where the spinach side was with my meal by pointing out several leaves on my plate. The lasagna portions were small, but other pasta portions were too large. One person was served the wrong wine. Desserts took forever, and decaf was served lukewarm. Lots of yelling between the kitchen and wait staff. Clearly needed more staff on a holiday. This is the second bad experience at Piatanzi--we will not return.
Everything that could go wrong did go wrong on my visit. Wobbly table when seated and they had me fix it myself. Appetizer never arrived. Had to send my food back twice b/c they put the wrong sides on. On the 3rd time having my food delivered, had the right sides but pretty sure the wrong fish and some kind of soupiness at the bottom of my plate. I’ve had sea bass several times and it’s always a fatty and moist fish. This tasted like trout or tilapia. The one plus...the overpriced wine was very good.
Excellent service. Great food. Definitely will be back.
A delicious meal and delightful service. Josh was efficient and very pleasant.
Bring back the Bolognese please!
My husband and I went to Piatanzi - Juan Tabo for my birthday dinner. We made a reservation on opentable and noted that this was in fact my birthday dinner. we got seated in a timely manner and the hostess was very friendly. We had a very prompt bus boy, who was nice. However, our waiter rubbed both of us the wrong way. He was uninformed on the rotating wine list, he was short with us, and unapologetic. Our appetizer and meals came out fine, we weren't impressed with the presentation or the general taste of our meals and appetizer. Honestly, I feel like I would have enjoyed the same meal better at Olive Garden. We ordered a canoli to go for desert, and it took 10+ minutes for the bus boy to then bring out creme brulee to go. I told the bus boy that's not what I ordered, he apologized and said he would bring out the correct thing. Then our waiter, proceeded to come to the table and argue with me about what I ordered, instead of just apologizing for bringing out the wrong thing. Who orders creme brulee to go? Anyway, they brought out the correct desert, we still ended up paying for creme brulee because we just wanted to get out of there. we left the restaurant and the only member of the staff to wish me a happy birthday was the hostess. What it comes down to is when you are paying well over $100 for a meal, everything should be exceptional. I used to be a waitress, I know there are hard nights, but the customer is the last person who should be treated poorly. We were really looking forward to trying this restaurant and now we will not be back.
Great, relaxed lunch.
Really enjoyed our meal. The only shortcoming was the bread. The rolls served to us as well as the table next to us were over cooked/burned.
We did not have a good experience this time. We have had better food, service and experience before. The food was undercooked (pasta was hard), the sauce had too much uncooked red wine in it, the salmon was raw. It took 1 hour and fifteen minutes to serve food after ordering and it was still undercooked. They used another large party as an excuse but did not offer even a free dessert or appetizer while waiting. The wine selection needs revamping and their waiters need to know more about what selection they offer.
Still fun! Met with friends and they had never been—they loved it! Three new converts.
Thanks for the great food and service.
The worst meal in Albuquerque in the 8 years we have lived here
We brought our neighbor for what we hoped would be a special meal. Not. Disappointing food and service compared to what we have experienced in the past. Perhaps they short-staff for Sunday nights—there certainly were not as many other diners as we usually see there, and only two waiters were working. The marinara sauce was thin and watery, our guest’s crab cakes were rubbery. Placing the order took more than 20 minutes. A very unhappy experience.
Everything was very good at standing thank you for having such great service
Very consistent and a great place for a casual dine, the service and selections are very good.
We dine here every week or two. The meal is always wonderful & priced much lower than comparable food elsewhere, This time we split a beet salad (the best in the state) & a Greco Pizza (We are very old & trying not to get too fat). We have however at some point tried most of the menu. Since opening service has occasionally been great, occasionally awful and everywhere in between but this time it was wonderful.
Not a great meal, the pizza was undercooked and the pasta was salty.
First time dining at this neighborhood location. Just like the 2nd location on Girard Blvd, the service, food and ambiance: PERFECT!
Neighborhood gem. Will definitely be going back. Our waiter Josh was attentive and accommodating. Food was flavorful and filling. My pizza was even better a day later!
The food and service are very good. Our only negative, and it’s a big one, is the music volume. The guitarist is talented, but please, please, please lose the amplifier. It’s a small venue and the music will carry very well without the electronics. With the amp you can’t hear the person seated next to you, even at the back of the restaurant, which we always request. It ruins an otherwise delightful experience.
The weather was cool so we sat on the patio. The service was good and the food was wonderful.
It was a Thursday night and there were a lot of empty tables, but business was steady. The calamari was great,as usual. I chose a pasta and sausage dish, and was not disappointed. The service was excellent as well as the food. Overall, it was a very pleasant experience. We will return.
For our party of five, everyone thought their food was very good or better. We will be back.
Another great dinner at Piatanzi. went with a group of friends. great service with 5 people who took some time deciding on what to eat. Pizza perfectly cooked. one of our party ordered gluten free penne and thought it was great. the caprese salad always delicious. good wine selection. will be back again.
