Penthouse 808 at the Ravel Hotel Ratings and Reviews
1. We had reservations and we had to wait by the bar for a long time before our host ushered us to our table.
2. A manager or a supervisor told one of us who had a hat (cap) on to take if off. Is the restaurant serious? This person (who happen to be the celebrant) was sick and had his hair falling off and be told to take his cap off because it is not allowed in the dining area to me was ridiculous and discriminatory. We will never go there.
We were spending a weekend stay-cation at the Ravel hotel and made reservations got their restaurant bc I figured it would be easy and fun to not leave the hotel/ cab around the city. I had experienced dining at Penthouse808 previously but did not recall disliking the food (possibly bc I previously ordered sushi exclusively?)! Positives first- the view of the lights on the Queensborough Bridge is beautiful! The ambiance is romantic, sexy, exclusive, and NYC! The servers are attentive, bringing complimentary small starters, green tea, and post dinner sweets, continually asking how the meal Is going. When we first arrived, we came through the guest entrance and someone walked us back to the host stand. Even the manager stopped by our table to say hello.
Makes for a great date night or special occasion, but you might want to eat something you really enjoy first because the food was boring. I skipped lunch bc I really wanted to be ready- but when the starters came out (positive- came out FAST) Chicken wings (waiter gave spicy disclaimer- they were not spicy or crispy) and spring rolls (tiny and greasy) in hind-sight we should have left then! The mains (positive- came out QUICKLY) were just as disappointing- pineapple fried rice was not fried tasting, wok seared skirt steak was wimpy and limp like it was microwaved, and salmon barely seasoned. Nothing came out "wrong", but nothing was the way we expected it or cooked to our liking, especially because we love Asian food (Sea, Qi, Spice Market, Peep, Benihana, Tao, Buddakhan), but this food doesn't compare to what we are used to. We are not into sending food back at restaurants, we just do not finish our food, leave quietly, tipped the waiter 20% and we're out of there in less that 50 mins! I saw a group of ladies sitting down at a larger table and I almost wanted to warn them, but my Hunnie held me back! Lol
My husband was sad bc this was the birthday meal for me and we didn't enjoy it the way we expected.
Really beautiful views. Our host Luis was very nice and always came back to see if we needed anything .Although the food took awhile, luis came out twice to 3 times with complementary side dishes that made up for the wait. They need to add salad to their meals because two of my artists had lobsters and their was no sides that came with the meal, that should be automatic !!! Dj &!Music Amazing Great staff that work their amazing and very friendly. Bartender great we paid for first drink but second drink was on the bartender really nice and lm going back every week. I️ have friends and family that’s in the music business and my sister had just released some music and I️ was scoring out great places to chill from our hectic life and Penthouse 808 is our new place . I️ did have a Groupon that didn’t work after the meal but it was totally Groupons mistake. Penthouse 808 needs to have a talk with Groupon since they have their name attached to their company! That can hurt customers relying on that coupon. That’s a definite ! All our plans was changed because of the really cold weather so they closed at 1am and we was expected to party until 4 but we had to find another party after, wish we could of just stayed thier since i live a block away . reservationists should have called to tell us their was going to be changes next time that’s very important in my world but overall great place. Thanks I’m a valued and happy Customer. I’m going to be rating this place every time because it’s my job to make my music artists very happy .PEACE 1 Love. 💗
I booked the place to celebrate my wife's first birthday after giving birth to our baby boy under recommendation from a friend. The rooftop view is as good as advertised but the food left much to be desired. They do have a good selection of sushi roll and sashimi, however, the main entrees are as poor as it gets in term of taste and value. It is a place that you go to enjoy the view more than the food.
I made a reservation last Sunday at the penthsoue 808 and I was going to use my 100 dollars reward by open table. Out the blue, we came across with some old friends couple and decided to join tables. After our meal when the check arrived I notified the server that we were going to use the gift card, but he said thay we couldn't used it that night because the other couple were using a Groupon voucher, then I told the server could you please split the check in two.. whatever they order or had they will pay and I'm take care my part with the gift card, however, they refused. I was very frustrated and unhappy since we went with the notion of using our reward card and we went beyond our budget taking in consideration the 100 we had. We ended up paying everything and I think it shouldn't been that way. The food was ok, the salmon was really good.. sushi and rolls are average.. we didn't like the noodle dish although we got charged for the chicken ($7) AND shrimp ($9) and not as a combine charge. Drinks were very good.. sake not so much..
It's Manhattan prices but not a Manhattan location. Only tried due to the purchase of a Groupon. Most likely would never of found this place otherwise. Made reservations for 7:45, there were plenty of open tables with views. They didn't seat us until 8:30 (Wednesday night) and would not give us a table by the window view... Asked the waiter if we can move as he took our order. Came back in 15 minutes after food came to tell us no, its already taken... The decor, drinks, and food were great, but service is this places downfall.
Although this was the second time here the service has still not changed. Ismael was our server but was only seen a few times during our meal. First we ordered cocktails which took him 10 minuets before he ever came to take the order and then 15 mins after taking the order. Even though it wasn’t busy. There was no sense of urgency at all. We also asked the busboy and server twice for lemon that we never received. The only thing that helped was that the food didn’t take long and tasted amazing. Our drinks were flavorful also. But service must change!!! Also they have the nerve to add gratuity to a table of 2 which is illegal to do. Overall I would recommend this restaurant to a friend for the food not service.
The service was the worst I have ever experienced. Obviously the waitress didn’t care because they still get tipped since they charge it to you ones they give you , your check. the hosts were very unprofessional and unpleasant. The food was not even good no flavor on the salmon they make. The DJ they had was playing the music so loud , my friends and I couldn’t even hear each other, also he played boring music , literally gave me a headache. Almost 400 dollars for nothing , I could of just listen to the reviews I saw for this restaurant and I should of canceled the reservation. I would of rather had my reservation at this other restaurant Blend on the Water... Blend on the Water is one top restaurant I regret wasting my money in this restaurant , blend on te water would of been worth it . I hope someone can see this review and cancel their reservations on time , they will literally waste there money on nothing
Little disappointed about this place, but it might just be '' NYC style ''. Had to wait approx. 15-20 minutes to get a reserved table even there was more than half of all tables available.
We got very nice table with spectacular view but lady told us we can use it just for next two hours because it is special one. Its more sad than funny that she meant it seriously.
Drinks $14-18 but i must admit, they tasted great. Especially blueberry mochito ( not sure about name of the drink )
The appetizers where great, the main course was not what we expected. The meat was over cooked and the the prices were expensive. The tap water bottle was charge in our check, my husband refused to pay for it. The waiter was nice to removed the charge from the bill.
Penthouse 808 is such a beautiful venue. Nighttime views were amazing!! The venue is totally worth it for that reason alone. Unfortunately, the visit otherwise was lackluster. We were seated about 40 min after our reservation time, and our waitress was less than helpful. As we weren't seated until 10:15, we chose to simply drink instead of eat anything. It almost felt as though she was hounding us to order food. When she finally realized we weren't planning on ordering food, only drinks and dessert, she told us we couldn't sit at the table anymore and had to move to the bar for dessert. (Side note: the restaurant was only about half full at that point in the night, and several tables around us were filled by those without reservations, or those just drinking and not eating.) We ordered a second round of drinks and she told us to choose an appetizer or we'd have to move. When she came back a few min later to take our order (again), she acted as though the dessert conversation had never happened, and she offered to bring us the dessert menu. When she brought our second round of drinks back about 25 min after ordering them, she had entered them wrong. Once we pointed out that the order was incorrect, she never once apologized or offered to correct the order, so we just drank the wrong drinks since we had been charged for them. We were at the table for about 1.5 hours total and our waters were never refilled. The empty bottle was taken away about 30 min in and never replaced. The venue itself has a beautiful view at night, and for that reason alone, I'd consider going back. Unfortunately, due to the terrible service we experienced, I would not make a food reservation there, and would plan on just simply going to the bar, if I went at all.
We went for my daughters birthday. Welcoming was good. We had a Groupon for four lobsters, 4 drinks, 4 deserts. The serves was ok it was not busy and our table was not waited upon as it should it been. I was waiting for my drinks I had to ask for them. The waitress took it upon herself to give herself 20% tip. I always tip good but I don't think it's ok for them to put 20 % automatic. I would come back the lobster was delicious the view was great the bus boy was great our waitress was ok not 20% worth but Not a big deal. It just does not look right for the establishment for waiters to do that. Good tip
We have been going here for years for dinner either before or after our day city trips. The food is always amazing, as is the restaurant manager Benny. Sometimes
Service falls by the way side as far as things taking a little too long to come out or a server losing their time effectiveness. The views, the music, the air and ambiance of this makes it feel like home to us. We are LI Based but city kids heart so this restaurant and hotel feed both of our needs.
