Our cosy lounge area is the ideal place to meet for an aperitif and peruse our menus in the warm glow of the log burner in the winter. Enjoy al fresco dining at it’s best basking in glorious, balmy Cornish sunshine on the decked terrace with a bowl of Porthilly Mussels and a glass of chilled 1er Cru Chablis in summer. We have something for all tastes. Well behaved dogs are welcome on the decking and we have ample car parking.Like our business our menus are constantly evolving and change with the seasons. All of our dishes are made to order and we can cater for all dietary requirements. Please feel free to contact the restaurant prior to arrival and discuss menus with Ben. Food and service was amazing from start to finish, will definitely be returning ASAP.
Visiting Cornwall from Manchester and Penroae was the perfect couple meal. The food was just incredible and so tasty. Would recommend to everyone as just an amazing experience
It was nice to be back at one of our favourite places to eat following the lockdowns they have encountered. As usual the service and welcome was great food as always excellent its as if they hadn't been shut.
Fabulous evening from start to finish - best meal of our holiday. From the welcome and fabulous hosting to the wonderful food, nothing to fault. It also seemed to be a very happy working environment. I wish I lived closer so I could go regularly. I would definitely recommend The Penrose Kitchen to anyone who enjoys good food.
Great lunchtime meal. Friendly helpful staff. Wonderful flavours. Good value.
Will visit again very soon.
Excellent service with well thought menu. Very tasty and wholesome food Enjoyed our experience.
Excellent food, drink & service.
Arrived early but offered the lounge area to wait and a drink ordered. Although a little limited, the menu still featured some lovely dishes and all those chosen we very nice. This is a small, and therefore quiet, premises so is therefore a very relaxing and peaceful place to have dinner. The service and attention to detail is truly first-class. My only negative is that the portions are not very substantial considering the cost. Would highly recommend.
Cheese souffles were excellent, best we have ever eaten.
Mains only satisfactory, the vegetables ranged from undercooked broccili to more pleasing carrots.
Desserts lacked finesse.
Service was attentive and pleasant but very slow.
Really good, inventive food (curried caramel sauce, anyone ? It's superb....) and a compact but good wine list topped off by great service and a surprisingly low bill.
What's not to like ? Well worth the drive and strongly recommended all round
Really cosy location and food was pretty good - we really enjoyed the roast and cheese soufflé was outstanding. Service was a bit slow but overall had a lovely time
The setting is beautiful at the restaurant with the outdoor terrace overlooking a garden and the food was very good. However, the service completely let this place down. I would probably say it’s the worst waiting service we have ever experienced. We are still in shock a few days later. There were many problems and I will list just a few here:
- Our food took 1 hour to come.
- When the waitress brought out our drinks she had no idea which drink was which. When I asked she simply said “I don’t know as I didn’t make them”.
- When asked what a ‘cortado’ coffee was the same waitress just said she didn’t know and didn’t even bother to find out.
- One waitress would come out and try to guess which table the food and drinks were for rather than have a proper system with table numbers. We had to turn away food and drinks over and over again.
- The waitress tried to overcharge us by £10.
- Our roast lunch came out with no meat and they had to bring the meat out separately.
- My roast lunch had a bunch of things missing from the description on the menu.
I could go on. Really poor service which ruins this place I’m afraid.
Good quality food. Our waitress Sam was very good. Will go again. A hidden gem for foodie to visit.
The wine pairing was also very good value. The setting was tranquil and calm.
I hope the chef and team will continue to scale this business. Best wishes to them. 👌👍
Always a pleasure to visit this restaurant. Cheese soufflé are to die for.
We had a lovely lunch here. Very friendly service and delicious food. The restaurant is nicely decorated and very airy and spacious.
It felt very covid safe.
Highly recommend and will definitely return.
Absolutely amazing food, incredible setting and outstanding service
We stumbled on the Penrose Kitchen during our holiday in Cornwall, as we were based near Truro. A hidden gem! The usual menus sound sumptuous but quite foodie; we booked BBQ Sunday lunch as we thought it would suit our younger dining companion best (age 5). Well this is no usual barbecue. We had squid, perfectly cooked monkfish, succulent lamb chop and slow cooked beef short rib, all with an array of beautifully prepared, delicious salads, dressings, vegetables and cured fish. Also got a chance to sample Da Bara breads. Puddings also really lovely. We had everything on the menu and it was all exquisitely prepared (and the chef made it look easy to do a bbq at scale!) the surroundings are idyllic with a lily pond garden to one side, the internal dining space is chic and filled with bright artworks (for sale) but the weather was so good everyone was outside enjoying the ample space in an informal garden space. We took a walk down the country lane to get there which added to the ambience. My greatest delight was that the service was relaxed and warmly welcoming, and not stilted at all, though the standard is fine-dining. though there were just a few well-behaved kids there, they were also made very welcome too. I would highly recommend and would love to visit again to sample the a la carte menu.
Amazing place with equally amazing service! Food was delicious, highly recommend the pork!
Fabulous food, attentive service. A wonderful place for a special evening.
Superb food, with outstanding flavours and interesting combinations. Excellent, friendly and very professional service and certainly somewhere we would absolutely recommend to anyone!!
If you are looking for top quality fresh food packed with flavours then this is the place.
You have to be realistic food of this quality doesn't come cheap but it's worth every penny.
Being local I understand our current staffing shortages so yes the service was a little longer than normal but what is "normal" the staff throughout were a delight to talk to and incredibly helpful.
Thank you for a lovely evening, I have no pictures of our food as it didn't even cross our minds we just wanted to enjoy and enjoy we did.
This is always our must go to restaurant when we visit Cornwall, we’ll run restaurant with friendly staff and owners. The quality and meal is first class. Off the beaten track so I hope the tourists don’t find it to easily. If you do find it be prepared for the perfect meal
We had such a good evening, loved the wine and the food is just amazing.
Highly recommend, and we’ll be back soon.
Fantastic food and service.
Catered for our family dietary requirements (vegan and gluten free) with separate menus and enthusiasm.
Such a beautiful setting overlooking Penrose Water Garden.
Absolutely faultless. You just can’t find intimate service and outstanding food of this standard around here. No rush to get you out, the table is yours for the entire evening.
We both had scallops to start, followed by perfectly cooked beef fillet and lobster Thermidor. Panna cotta and chocolate delice to finish off - wow! The best pina colada we have ever had! The pairing wines with each course were spot on!
Simply incredible. Each diner is made to feel special and valued and they always go above and beyond. Our favourite restaurant in Cornwall without a doubt.
Wonderful food, professionally served by friendly staff.
My favourite restaurant to go to. The food is always incredible as is the service! A must-do if you’re in Cornwall! Can’t wait to get down there again!
The twice baked soufflé was light and fluffy, the pate like velvet and the pork cooked to perfection. Sadly we couldn’t manage a dessert. Looking forward to eating there again very soon.
Excellent food and service. Thoroughly enjoyed everything
As usual Sam (front of house) and Ben (chef) worked their magic. All faultless from our welcome til the end, and we were there a long time!! Service was great-lovely waiting staff and food as always scrumptious
Lovely meal in a beautiful space, highly recommended.
This is our must go to restaurant on a visit to Cornwall. We have never had the same meal twice. The menu continually changes and is always perfect in every respect.
This is a hidden gem in the countryside, visit once and you are hooked on their seafood
As always a fantastic lunch with hospitality to match. Our favourite restaurant in Cornwall. Just a shame we can't eat there every week!
We have eaten at Penrose Kitchen three times now. Each time we were very impressed with the relaxed atmosphere, very friendly, helpful and knowledgeable service. In particular the separate menu for the gluten free diners in our party was very well received. The food was superb and we had a most enjoyable dining experience. We will definitely eat here again and recommend the restaurant to friends and family.
1st meal out since lockdown and we wasn't disappointed. Had a festive meal and all 3 courses were beautiful cooked and presented.
Staff were very friendly and food exceptional, will definitely be back.
As always we felt very welcome and the lunch was very relaxed: the food was very good as always - especially the cuttlefish!
Our favourite place to eat.
We had a fabulous meal everything was excellent, staff were wonderful. We were there to celebrate my 60th birthday and we did it in style, with excellent service and fabulous food. Thank you Penrose kitchen I would highly recommend
Excellent again in every way. Quality local produce expertly cooked with excellent service.
We really enjoyed our lunch on Wednesday and I was very grateful for Ben suggesting bringing the booking a day forward. The spacing between tables is very good but as it was such a lovely day it was a bit disappointing that the outdoor area was closed as we were extremely warm by the log burner and it felt a little bit airless with no ventilation.
The food and the service was superb and the ambience perfect. I will come back with friends for another meal possibly evening especially when the weather warms up and eating alfresco is available again. I wish you well in such challenging times and I know that my friends who had not been before will undoubtedly be back. Thank you
The best Sunday roast I’ve had in many years. Friendly staff and great service.
