   They hype about this restaurant didn't measure up to the experience. The service was fine and the wait staff friendly and attentive. The facility looks worn and old - despite the funky light fixtures. The women's toilet had chipped gold paint on the seat, the plunger was broken and chipped, and the cold tap at the sink was loose and missing a topper. The bathroom was also not immaculately clean. One of the most important ways a restaurant can demonstrate its regard for its patrons are the condition of their bathrooms. I didn't feel valued. The food, however, is the real let down. The oysters were great, and the Cajun mussels very good. The shrimp and grits were downright bad. I am a southerner, born and bred. Have eaten shrimp and grits at many great places in NOLA, 30A, Fair Hope, Mobile, Atlanta, Savannah and Charleston. Penelope's shrimp and grits are disappointing for several reasons. The shrimp appeared to be grilled and were tough. The gits were thin and watery - not stone ground and had no flavor. The chipped sausage was overcooked and tough as well. The foam was a gimmick that only served to mask the lack of flavor in the dish. The biscuits my sister had with her fried chicken were NOT flaky southern biscuits but had the consistency of ciabatta bread and were like hockey pucks. My brother-in-law did enjoy the gumbo. We were also disappointed by the toughness of the beignets, but the restaurant comped them to try and compensate for our other concerns. The restaurant doesn't make its own coffee but serves coffee from a nearby place in that restaurant's to go cups. I ordered a double decaf expresso and received a decaf coffee. While the restaurant took the coffee off the bill, they left a $2.50 delivery fee on the bill. The waitress was unable to explain what the fee was for. I wouldn't go back as it is not worth the freight, IMHO.

   The service was great, the manager & server were friendly. I went for my bday with a big party. The appetizers were delicious but the entrees were okay. I had the Bouillabaisse which was bland, a little salt did help. One of my guests had the steak which was not good again it was bland. Overall the experience was good but I wont be back.

   Our first time today. Brunch to celebrate my granddaughter’s 22nd bday. The mimosas and espresso martinis were great but the food was awesome. I had the crab cake Beni’s and it was wonderful. And we love Meizner Park. The shopping is great. We will definitely be back.

    Place was hopping. Food and service were great. Was a little noisy due to DJ but otherwise a very nice meal and will definitely go back. Definitely don’t miss the benets
