Peli Peli - Vintage Park Ratings and Reviews
I was a regular until around a year ago when I thought it was going downhill. After the new facility opened at the Galleria, I thought the owner was neglecting this original location. Food quality and service dropped. Just the same it was a vibrant place.
Having now returned, it may well be another year + before I go back.
Prawn pieces in the bisque were HARD. Their signature Bobotie appetizer was DRY and the Chicken Curry was less than fresh. Only saving grace was the trio dessert.
From a favourite for a few years to somewhere to be avoided.
Obsevation....Thursday nights used to be a very busy night with 90% + tables occupied. There were only 11 tables occupied on this visit. A reflection of things sliding downhill?
This was our fourth time to dine at Peli Peli and my wife and I took our son and his wife. The menu has different items that just aren't found at other restaurants. However, there is something for everyone. South African. It is spot on with the food. (Just wish they served ostrich). Many of the wines are from South Africa as well. Again, we had the Bobotie, and again it was superb! We always enjoy the atmosphere. This time we sat outside as it was a nice day, but inside has an interesting decor. We will be back again soon.
Overall experience was amazing! Highly recommend the South African Gentleman, lamb chops, and appetizer sampler! The food has amazing flavor, service was great and server had excellent recommendations. Would definitely come back! They also surprised my wife and me with complimentary champagne for our anniversary. Can’t say enough good things about Peli Peli.
We ordered the prawn cakes for our appetizer. Very crispy on outside and not greasy. Nice size pieces of prawns. Worth a try. The filet on the lunch menu was amazing. Note: medium is medium rare. The chipotle raspberry blue cheese bacon sauce was extremely flavorful. The balsamic Brussels sprouts were perfectly cooked. The kingclip fish was also ordered and did not disappoint. Was a great meal and worth a trip.
Awesome South African Fusion menu. The food was hot, tasty, and plentiful. Expect to bring some home with you, large portions. While ambience was a little on the frugal side, the food made up for it. I will DEFINITELY be going back. The staff was friendly and attentive.
Peli Peli has always been a great place for an evening meal with good wine and great cocktails, however their brunch menu is one of the best in town and probably not known for this. The Blackened Salmon Benedict is fantastic as well as the Prawn Cake Benedict. Highly recommend Peli Peli for a Sunday Brunch!!!
We celebrated our anniversary with a wonderful dinner at Peli-Peli Vintage Park. From the moment we walked through the door, we were treated as special guests! Service was to perfection as were our steaks. The wine recommendation was wonderful.
This is a great local restaurant, not a chain. The food is definitely unique but with a spectacular blend of flavors!
I can't say enough good things about this restaurant!
Great food, nice atmosphere, but kind of noisy. Went on a Sunday; two ordered off the Houston Restaurant week brunch menu, and the other two orders from the lunch menu. Everything was delicious! We especially enjoyed the kingklip fish and the beef medallions. The deserts were also yummy! We all agreed that the sticky toffee cheesecake was the best!
Our waitress Mia was very attentive and knowledgeable about the menu, as well as the history of the restaurant.
We heard about the bacon wrapped chicken and everyone at our table ordered! It's our favorite dish. And a great dish for children.
Fish with a South African flare is delicious beyond belief.
And the mashed carrots prepared like mashed yams is another great dish.
Waiters and Management really care. They engage in conversation and I like them to sign my Peli Peli Passport Book!
I can't wait to return again. Peli Peli is a GEM! Thank you for coming to Houston.
This has always been my "go to" place when it comes to special occasions. As before, I called ahead, and communicated the desire to have a reservation for what was a special occasion. And everything was as expected until our waitress showed up. While I tried and tried to give her an opportunity to make our experience a good one, she continued to disappoint; even going so far as to bring us something we clearly did not order and argue with me that I did. While the food is excellent, the higher prices should be based on both excellent food AND service. In this case, I got half of what I paid for. Something to consider next time I have clients/family in town.
