Peli Peli - Vintage Park Ratings and Reviews
The food and service here are absolutely excellent but this location compared to the Galleria location are quite different. The Noah's Ark room for couples on a date doesn't have the ambiance that the Galleria has. The tables are positioned weird and the room is brightly lit and it's extremely quiet, the tables and chairs were wobbly and run down. The tables and booths in the main dining room are also a bit rundown as well in comparison to the Galleria location. The staff and the food are absolutely fantastic at both locations though! Asked to sit in the main dining room and they made it happen and it was much better although it needs a bit of updating compared to the newer location in the Galleria.
Formerly a romantic atmosphere with tablecloths and lights on the tables, now it is similar to a tavern. No tablecloths, no cute little lights, very loud. The newbie waiter forgot to bring my husband's salad before his entrée. They offered the free dessert, but seemed quite uncaring about amateur service. The approx. 8 pages menu is now on 2 sides of a plastic card, most sides are set instead of being able to pick, vegetarian plate gone. Very expensive, the food was good, but you can't hear the person across the booth. No more live music in the restaurant. This was our favorite restaurant, but I don't think we will be back. What was supposed to be a special relaxing night out was stressful and disappointing.
Totally underwhelmed. Got there, waited about 10 minutes after our reservation time to be seated. Service was okay. The food was good. Seemed very disorganized. We both ordered drinks from the menu and were told that they were out of them. They were out of every bourbon on the menu. I tried to order a few different wines all were out. The waitstaff was dismissive and laughed it off. They were hesitant to apologize and offered no explanation.
This is one of our favorite restaurants, usually have a great experience. Went last night for an awards dinner for my wife. 2 of her co workers ordered the espentada. When it was brought out the server asked us to check the cook of the meat. It was over. He told them that the bottom piece is always cooked a little more. The rest would be perfect. The rest was medium well, supposed to be medium rare. When we told the manager about it he apologized. Didn’t offer to bring out another one, didn’t offer to take it off the check. Instead he said he was going to give us a dessert on the house. 1 dessert for 6 people. $80 in over cooked meat, and 1 $12 dessert for 6. Hmmm. So then when we get the bill it had the dessert that he was supposed to comp. so they charged us for the dessert that we didn’t order. Once again they apologized. Instead of taking it off, they gave us a card for a free appetizer for next visit. Not the typical Peli Peli experience were used to.
They are going through some type of transition. Many bar choices were not available and our server was not friendly. She seemed to not want to be at work that evening and even taking our order was scattered and awkward.
The entrees were very inconsistent and some seafood was over cooked and dry. Not a top restaurant any longer.
I and my husband had the Chicken Espetada. It is ultimate splendor! We also tried the Sticky Toffee Pudding. It was extremely delicioso and wonderful! The waiter, Jeremy, was awesome as could be! A bit pricey this is, but for a special once in a while, you will love it! I do wish they had a more extensive wine list with more cabs, especially. This is a favorite spot of our list of favorites!
My wife and I have always loved this place. Maybe it was just an off night... or at least let’s hope so. They have several seating areas so be sure to be specific that you want to sit in the main dining area if you want to enjoy the ambiance. We were sat in a back room off the main dining area. It was awkwardly quiet, limited decoration and just overall non-inviting. Several couples around us could be heard complaining of the experience. For the price you expect it to just be a bit better. If you want to try something unique and different give it a shot.
Every time I’ve been here Peli Peli blows me away! The service is above and beyond and the food is unique and delicious:) I insisted on taking my mother, my grandmother and my great-aunt there for my grandmothers 88th birthday. They were concerned when I told them South African food, but they all thanked me for pushing them to go!! And the Vintage Park area is so nice and fun on weekends!
This was our first visit, and definitely we'll be back soon. The menu was interesting and we tried some new things. The food was really good and presented very well - also the service was outstanding. Notable waitstaff were Tony at the bar, and Sebastian at our table . . . they sincerely cared and did everything they could to make the evening enjoyable !
A night out with friends to celebrate the New Year. Honestly, the only thing I didn’t like was being seated in the addition/ enclosed patio thing. It’s just a totally different dining experience from being inside and 5 of us, 4 men, were squished in an awkward circle booth with an extra chair. The food and service, as usual, were fantastic. On future reservations I’ll be sure to specify that I would prefer to not be seated out there.
Overall experience was great. Our waitress did well at interacting and being friendly with our baby girl that joined us for New Years Eve. Good quality was cooked perfectly. We always come back for the South African Mojitos. Dissapointed to see the Green Beans and Couscous leave the menu but still great sides to choose from. Will continue to come back to Peli for Happy hour and dining.
We have been coming to Peli Peli since it opened as we love the food and wine selection. But recently we found out that they have decided to switch their wines to South African wines and eliminate my favorite Pinot Noir. It’s unfortunate that they have decided to not carry any other wines other than from South Africa so that will probably be our last time at Peli Peli. Food was great, service was great but the wine list is now suffering. Sad......
Unfortunately, this was our worst experience at Peli Peli. We took my husbands parents to celebrate their 49th wedding anniversary and we didn’t have a good experience. They were out of all beer, a lot of wines, and several menu items. Our server wasn’t attentive and when I told her we were celebrating an anniversary she just said they didn’t do champagne toasts anymore. I wasn’t expecting that, just a dessert or even a nice word. I told the manager whe we left and she was apologetic and gave us a gift card to come back. But, not sure we will be returning again.
Peli Peli far exceeded my expectations in my limited experience for fine dining, with an atmosphere suited for casual dining. The food was absolutely out of this world, my waiter was very knowledgeable about the chef, the food choices, and the recommendations for a first timer. The flavor - OMG!!! It makes sense why there was no salt or pepper on the table - it was just not needed. The love was all in the food - and soooo flavorful - the levels of flavor kept building in my mouth, from the home cured billtong, to the homemade sausage, with the carrot mango (?) chutney, to the Tiger prawns, and let's not forget the South African version of Sheppard's Pie - wow! EVERYTHING was so succulent!! Calamari that practically melts in your mouth, Peli Peli sauce that needs to be bottled and sold on the market, flat bread used to sop up the sauce left in the original pan my dinner was cooked in (how practical!) I can sum this experience up in 4 words - Fancy Without The Frills! In the words of The Terminator - "I'll Be Back!"
We were told they were re-vamping their drink & food menu so a little disappointed in the selections we were offered but the food was amazing! The lamb chops were perfect and melted in your mouth and I loved the curried spaghetti squash but I think we all enjoyed the sampler appetizer the most.
We dine here quite often and the food has always been suberb. On this occasion, four of us ordered the same entree, and it was at room temperature. Very disappointed! I talked to the manager and I was given a discount, but this ruined our experience. I do have to say, the waitress was absolutely attentive to our every need.
