Excellent food and service this time! We told our server that we were going to the theater and that we had two food allergies. Michael took both into account and made this visit to Pearl Brasserie perfect. We will definitely return and ask for him to be our server!
First time diner for Pre-Opera Meal
Location, View, Ambiance, Decor all very good.
Food is absolutely, acceptable to good.
Service is good, the place needs less bus help and more/better wait staff.
Water served out of carafes that seem to taint the taste of good Chicago tap water.
Tip To Diners: Skip the water, it stinks. The server did not offer water options...VERY un-Brasserie or anything vaguely French.
BTW: 45 years on the Northside drinking tap water, DOES in fact, make me an authority!
Cutlery: "Stainless" so worn that it looks like pewter...I used it, but I didn't like it.
My wife and I took home leftovers, but we had to harangue, harass and beg for a real bag of paper to place our two plastic/metal containers in, for travel home. Come on, we had four staff MEMBERS telling us they could not produce a paper/plastic any kind of bag after I drop over a hundred bucks here? REALLY? SERIOUSLY?

I had dinner there last night with 3 of my girlfriends 11/16/17 I was so disappointment in this restaurant!!!! We had the oyster (they were good) and we had the muscle that were not good..we had the white wine sauces and sauces was so salted and muscles were not good or fresh pules there was hardly any white wine sauce for dipping the bread that was so burt bread we could not eat..We all did the prix fixe menu. Two of my girlfriends got the beet salad that was really good, I had the french onion soup with hardily any cheese pules cheese was not melted I had ice soup ...my other girlfriend had the lobster bisque that we both had to take back they were ice cold to have them heat up....3 of us had the Steak frites we order in Med Rare (It was not med rare it came well done)! The fries was really good!! My other girlfriend order the salmon that was good. The services was awful!!..Our waiter Micheal did NOT know anything about the wines or wine list he he was very RUDE!!! Mark (he used to work for Blanchard) the other waiter we asked about the wines was extremely good and very helpful!!! He recommend a great wine for us. the busboy were extremely rude...We had to keep getting up to find one of them to see if we could get water and get steak knife for steak. I was so looking forward to this place ...I work downtown in loop...Thought it be great place to go after work for Happy Hour or take clients there for lunch or have company party there...I would if the services or food was much better!!! I am so disappointed in the food and services :(
This was our first visit to Pearl Brasserie but it will become a regular stop on our trips to Chicago. Their menu is restricted to three-course prix fixe but the options are ample. One of us had the lobster bisque, one the escargots, and one the roasted beets with goat cheese. All were excellent and large enough to share. Two of us had the trout and one the steak frites. The trout was pronounced "a very special dish" (and we've been making some pretty great trout ourselves this summer). The steak was delicious and perfectly cooked as were the frites (and there were plenty to share among the three of us). For dessert, one of us had the apple galette, and two went for the flourless chocolate mousse cake, again all great. The wine list had a good range and the beers were small in number but quite interesting. The decor is attractive, the sound level allows easy conversation, and the server was excellent and personable. As an aside, one of our party took half her trout and half her cake home. My only wish would be to opt out of one course because we found it to be a lot of (very good) food.
The service was excellent. Food was delicious! It was dark so we could not enjoy the river but would definitely come back for that view and another delicious meal.
The only thing I would have to say that was not delicious was the cheesecake. I don't know about the other desserts because we all had the cheesecake. I would not order it again.
The $35 prix fixe menu is a very good deal. The wine list has some reasonable picks on it and our service was good. The meat courses (Pork chops with apples and cabbage, Hanger steak with frites) were a bit overly salty, the lobster bisque was fairly bland... but my frisee aux lardons was quite good, and the flourless chocolate was very good as well. The meat courses were actually very good except for a bit of a high salt level, and we did enjoy them despite that flaw. The atmosphere of the restaurant was delightful and the view out onto the river is very nice as well. We will certainly go back, especially since it's walking distance from our home.
We dined at Pearl Brasserie for our anniversary before seeing a play. It was our first time here and I was surprised to be offered a prix fixe menu. The first course didn't appeal to me, so the server was kind enough to substitute a Caesar salad. The Amish chicken was moist and flavorful. My husband enjoyed the salmon. The portions weren't especially large but the meal was filling. Dessert was a flourless chocolate cake - very rich and decadent. The view of the Chicago River was very romantic yet the restaurant seemed very empty at 6:30pm on a Saturday night. I would recommend this restaurant but I'm not sure how long it will be around. Unless they have a large lunch crowd during the week due to being located in the Loop.
I was with a vegan friend and she couldn't find anything on the menu, so we just stayed for drinks. We were seated on the patio next to the river which was lovely, except when the nearby El train went by. Our waiter recommended a different restaurant that fit my friend's needs perfectly.
Really loved this restaurant! The prix fixe menu had multiple options that all looked amazing and were! Tried the escargot and French onion soup and swore we were back in France. Our waiter, Phillipe was a gem. His wine suggestions were perfect. Compared to other more expensive restaurants on our trip this was a standout for the food and value. $35 for an outstanding three-course meal in Chicago is hard to beat!! We’ll be back!
This is gem of a place tucked in on wacker. It is an excellent french bistro with a fantastic dinner prix fix at $35 which includes 3 courses( counting dessert) . We were outside , lower level which was quite lovely river front . Very easy ambience , service alittle slow but there only seemed to be one waitress .
Do not go here if you have a later event like the opera. Service absolutely sucked. 45 mind from order to meal despite several times tracking down our server to find out what the problem was. He kept saying he would have us out in time but we rushed. Very noisy. Salmon was way under done. No consideration on the bill, just an offer of cheap champagne which we did not want. So frustrated with this place I won’t go back. Many other choices for business lunches and pre event dinners.
I've been once for dinner and once for lunch since the re-launch late this past summer. For lunch I had a sandwich and oysters and both were very good. For dinner, or actually happy hour, I ordered the mussels but they didn't taste very fresh. The preparation and presentation were very good, though! Wine options are good. Overall the experience was nice both times and I will return.
The hostess, atmosphere, and food were very good. Menus were difficult to read in the dim lighting since they were "very creatively" printed on tan paper with smaller than needed font size for the lighting. The service was remarkably slow considering that the restaurant was less than half full.
The restaurant has a lovely view of the river and the décor is very pleasant. Unfortunately, those are the main plusses. We were seated promptly and from that point on we felt rushed. They even served our main course while we were in the middle of eating appetizers.
The onion soup was excellent. We had fish. The cod was salty but otherwise tasteless. The salmon was good. We ordered champagne but even though they appear to be have a large bar patronage suggesting that they would know their alcohol but they didn't really have true champagne. They had mixtures and the mixture had been poured into a carafe and then, at our table, poured into standard wine glasses.
The menu on the website did not match the menu in the restaurant. The website showed a large selection of cocktails but some common ones did not appear on the menu. The same applied to the entrees. There were fewer than expected and even at 5:30 - 1/2 hour after they opened -- they told us they were out of two of the entrees.
We should have suspected something was amiss when the name of the restaurant "Pearl Brasserie" in Open Table and above their reception area didn't match the name "Pearl Tavern" on the website. Also the outside lights on the restaurant name were not lit so it wasn't easy to find the place.
Overall, it was not the experience we'd hope to have for our birthday celebration.
