Fantastic and stylish! They do afternoon tea right and the Christmas decorations are gorgeous. Go experience it!
Peacock Alley is a beautiful place to meet with friends for Afternoon Tea!
Service very nice, staff friend. Tea sandwiches were average.
Excellent black tea, great little savory and sweet choices, and lovely service. The table was too low for the chairs, so we could not place our legs underneath, and as other reviewers have noted, afternoon tea is served in a hallway. That said, it was a lovely experience.
My little daughter and I had a nice experience. It being her first time, she loved everything about it. The tea selections were nice as well as the assorted food. I was disappointed the tea pot did not match the set up, it was plain, not a decorative pot.
But overall, we had a memorable time.
I was a little surprised that the tea was set-up in the hotel hallway/corridor; I do understand that social distancing is required, but it was a little different than what I expected; but still a lovely experience. The Harp music and the service was outstanding.
The other feedback is that it would have been nice to have been able to try different teas within the party. Having had tea in London and Paris, there is an option to try multiple teas to find one that is truly delicious to you personally.
Otherwise a lovely experience.
Our afternoon tea was truly Unforgettable! The harpist, softly played that song and many other classics ! The service was very attentive without being bothersome.
The variety of tea sandwiches and little pastries were more than ample and each with their own bouquet of flavors. This was really a special afternoon with my daughter, that truly allowed us to immerse ourselves in the afternoon and forget about all else.
Lovely. elegant. delicious. tea choices are great!
Slow and bad service. I sat for 10 minutes and had to flag someone down for a glass of water. When the rest of our party arrived (on time), we waited 15-20 minutes and again had to ask for our server. No one ever checked on us during the 2.5 hours -- every time we had to ask for someone to come over. Food was just mediocre. Location is not the best as you have people walking through checking in and out of hotel. Truly disappointing, especially as there are not many places for afternoon tea.
The historic Willard Hotel’s Peacock Alley is the perfect venue for afternoon tea with family and friends for any occasion. Not only do they offer excellent service and a delicious assortment of exotic teas to choose from, but they also have a harpist playing live music in the background to enhance the overall afternoon tea experience.
Excellent tea service. Food was delicious and the extra touch of Happy Birthday on the harp and cupcakes for our two birthday celebrants took it over the top.
We enjoyed the tea but the chair cushions need to be replaced as we sat very low.
A lovely place to while away a hour or so on the weekend. A harpist played in the background , the tea & munchies were very good and the service was outstanding. So very civilized.
It was my birthday and we felt so cared for and celebrated!
My husband and I attended the Valentine Day Tea. In all details our experience was outstanding except for hotel guests passing through Peacock Alley and creating some distraction. Upon arrival there was a confusing back-up to valet parking making us almost late for our tea reservation; however, upon departure the valet parking experience was perfect. Thank you for making our experience at The Willard so memorable. Lovely food, excellent service and much enjoyment of your historic hotel.
I went for the Valentines tea and it was way over priced for the amount of savory things they provide. It was also cold in the alleyway and people rushing through. It's pretty place but the food isnt that great. Scones are cold, not enough little sandwiches (although there really were none on the Valentines menu). Sweets dont have a lot of flavor other than being sweet. Tea was okay. I got the black. Took a while to get teapot replenished and for price shoul offer you another choice.
The Tea was in the hallway with lots of traffic. In addition, a couple brought little children which I realize you cannot control. They were not well behaved. Why anyone would wants to force children to sit still at such an adult event is total abuse. You should at least put them in the back of the room away from the other adults. It really ruined my Tea and I really looking forward to it. I had High Teas several times in London and saw little children at them. The tea and food was good.
Went to celebrate my mom's birthday. This is a cute concept but it's expensive for only one allowing to try one type of tea per person and only a few selections of tea sandwiches and pastries, so it's not a hearty meal if that's what you are going for. You are really going for the experience not for food. One thing they don't tell you is valet I included in the price thankfully
My daughter and I were celebrating our birthdays with Tea at The Willard. Everything was lovely. We appreciated the birthday cupcakes and birthday song on the harp- just wonderful
The presentation was very elegant. I found the food products and the tea that were offered to be high quality and very tasty. Because of a wedding in one of the adjacent rooms there was a wedding party walking up and down the hallway where we were sitting and consequently there was lots of traffic and noise.
Lovely way to celebrate a birthday. We were a group of friends with birthdays very close together. We decided to treat ourselves to high tea and it was the perfect way to celebrate.
Everything was lovely- my only comment is the choice of both "liver" and "blue cheese" as sandwiches since (although they were beautifully presented and tasty) not everyone likes liver and blue cheese is "jarring" especially when the "look" of the little tart is "avocado" - Except for these two little items, everything else was 100% perfection!
Lovely old-world ambience. Greatly enjoyed the harpist. The only thing that detracts is guests walking through as Peacock Alley is really the connector between the front and back hotel entrances.
1. The tea, finger sandwiches, sweets, scones were ok. not bad, not great either.
2. services - friendly and attentive
3. the entire place is dark, sad-looking alley (it is indeed an Alley - no windows, nothing much, and nothing really nice to look at)
4. free valet parking is good
5. the entire experience is not worth the $ -- I think for 2 people, we paid $200+ (including tips and Champgane).
seriously slow service, teapots too small, food average
Our server was very accommodating of one of the group's wheat intolerance. The food was flavoursome and the environment special
We went here for our anniversary. It was very nice food was good service excellent and everyone was great. The only down side is that it was very noisy and being in a major hallway there was constant traffic of now hotel guests and congregants many headed the the restrooms. This definitely took away from the experience. However the harpist was exceptional and we still had an enjoyable time despite the interruptions.
The hotel staff is very helpful and friendly. The parties are tasty. They also have a good selection of tea. We were a little disappointed about the "tea room". It's a hall way rather than a proper afternoon tea room. While we were having our tea, staff, travelers, and hotel residents were walking pass nonstop. I just think customers should know about the location.
My friend and I attended. The tea menu was vast. Lots of choices. The food was delicious. Everything was beautiful. It is located in a hall with guests walking through which was a bit distracting. Overall it was a nice experience and would do it again.
Our experience was overall very nice. Our server was very good. However, based on the high price - there was a very disappointing aspect. Our reservation was at 3pm and I understand it is a 2 hour tea service. However, around 4pm, a hotel staff person began loudly and aggressively breaking down the empty tables and chairs around us. It was loud, disruptive and rude.
My daughter’s 6th birthday. The experience was spectacular.
Just had holiday tea with my 9 year old and was disappointed! The staff is not well trained to serve a proper tea. So if that is what you expect look elsewhere. To top it all off, we went to the bathroom and when we returned we found the staff clearing everything from the table. She gave us an "oh you're still here look". They apologized, but come on there was still tea in our tea cups and champagne in my glass and we hadn't paid the check yet so they really should have known better! It is just too pricey and they have been doing tea for far too long to to get it that embarrassingly wrong! Yes it's the Willard and iconic, but service is what will keep people coming back! We will certainly try one of the other hotels for tea next time!
We had to call a waitress after waiting for 20 mins. Eventually our tea came out as well as our snacks. The only thing we enjoyed was your scones and spreads. I paid for the champagne package but only received 1 glass. I assumed it was bottomless. That part was not explained to me. Our reservation was scheduled at 3 and at 3:45 they started packing up making us feel like we had to rush to get out. We eventually took our leftovers to go. Not worth the money, mediocre service. Please let those who have tea at your establishment know that they can park and be validated at your hotel. I parked 3 blocks away. I’d think several times before returning. Trip advisor review to come
Family get together.
The service was great and the tea delicious, but it is grossly overpriced. After tip and tax for 2 people during holiday season, you’re looking at $200. That’s to eat crumpets and finger foods and sip tea. You can have a great meal at a nice dining establishment in the city with some drinks for this price or less. Take a spin through Peacock Alley, as that doesn’t require a reservation, and check-out the scene, but save your money.
Great service, relaxing and beautiful atmosphere! A great Christmas treat—book well in advance.
Our annual family tradition has been to attend the Willard’s Holiday Tea usually before or after the Nutcracker performance. This year was more disappointing. The desserts for tea were not as tasty as usually and tried to be too fancy instead of normal petit fors and small holiday bites. The sandwiches and scones were still delicious as was the tea and the service.
The ambiance was not as nice this year either. The Tea should be done in the Crystal Room if the hotel is not willing to keep the Peacock Alley Hall closed to the public. When you are paying $80++ per person and dressed in your holiday attire - dresses, jackets and or nice business attire, it is not pleasant to have tourists and others walk by staring at your table, food and you with their big bags, coats and wearing jeans and sweats. It really ruins the experience and makes you wonder why you are spending the money for a nice experience - as these passersby ruin it!
I’m honestly not sure if we will return to The Willard Tea after this year. We may need to look at other options that are in a more intimate setting to truly enjoy the full High Tea Experience!
We come every year at the holidays to this wonderful event as a way to celebrate once we have finished our preparations for Christmas, or just after the big day, and in the past few years have been introducing friends to the tea as well. The food and teas are delicious and the service and presentation always good, and we love the harp music! A few years back it was possible to try the scent of the teas before choosing - please bring that back!
Disappointed that this legendary D.C. Christmas high tea experience is in the main hallway of the hotel especially at $400 for the four of us. The food was superb, a little too much to the sweet side and could use a little balance in the desert tier. We had a great experience.... but will not repeat nor recommend unless it’s in the room
