Service was extremely slow and disorganized. We had 2 or 3 different wait staff come to the table before anyone was even ready to take our order. They were good about accommodating my food allergies, though, and the atmosphere was also nice (harp and singing).
My 8 year old was so excited to celebrate her birthday at the Willard. The food was excellent, especially the scones, and the tea choices were varied. Everything was great except the service. I saw other wait staff doing a great job so I can't say it's all the waitresses. Ours was just terrible. We never got water despite asking several times. We waited 20 minutes just to ask her for a box for the food we didn't eat and then another 15 for her to bring the box. But she didn't bring the check with the box - I had to track her down again to get the check. When she brought the check, she also brought a cupcake with a candle for my daughter's birthday. It was a lovely touch, but by that time, we had been there almost 2 hours and were full and ready to leave. Also, be aware that Peacock Alley is actually the hallway between the 2 entrances of the hotel. So while everyone at the tea dresses up, people in shorts/tee shirts/flip flops etc. are constantly walking by (sometimes loudly) to get to the other side of the hotel. I'm still happy we went, but for the price and the reputation of the Willard, I was expecting a little more.
Horrible experience with service. We took my in laws there for a special occasion. When you are paying $70 per head you should expect to get first rate service. Once seated we waited 15-20 minutes to be acknowledged by our server. Then after our tea came, she didn’t even come over to check on us in over 30 minutes. We finally had to get the attention of another server to get us more tea. We spoke to management and as a result they spoke to her. We could here the disgruntled employee responding to her boss very disrespectfully in a first rate place. The whole experience was disappointing with an exception of the food and tea.
Was disappointed in the overall experience. The value was lacking have had more abundant teas other places for less. The service for the price I was paying was very nonexistent. Waitress didn’t know anything being served. Once things were served never came around again. Had to ask the hostess for my check after sitting feeling forgotten about. The pastries and teas Sammie’s tasted stale. Was not ever given a glass of water. The ambiance was nice to say the least except for the screaming children in the lobby of the hotel. Over all I’d say go else where take a look in side but go somewhere else.
A lovely place to go for a special occasion. The tea selections were varied and delicious, the food was wonderful, and the service very attentive. We had a lovely time. If you park in the hotel they also validate parking! We will absoluetly come back.
We got sick from their crab sandwiches. Very fun and beautiful though.
We thoroughly enjoyed high tea. I hope to make this a recurring part of my visits to DC
Peacock Alley is fun for special occasions but be sure to ask whether a wedding is being held because the noise from the band was through the roof - we go there for the ambiance and to listen to the harp not a loud wedding band. Also outrageously expensive for a few tea sandwiches and tea. I realize you go there for the ambiance but if that is lacking you have just spent an afternoon eating overpriced sandwiches
I've been to tea at the Willard several times and it's always a pleasant experience. Unfortunately this past week-end the noise level was obnoxious as a wedding band was playing loudly near the tea in Peacock Alley. No doubt this was a fluke for the Willard but if a quiet experience with a lovely harpist is important to you make sure the hotel hasn't booked a wedding in the space nearby.
The service and food were horrible. The deserts tasted like they came from the Giant grocery store - yesterday.
I love having tea at Peacock Alley at the Willard. I always feel so relaxed and the staff always making you feel special.
Really had an amazing time. Was my first time having tea at the Willard, and some of the reviews made me nervous, but had a really good time. The service was exceptional. They were so nice, and I thought it was the perfect balance of attention and leaving us alone to enjoy the experience and chatting with friends. Expensive? Yup, but for me worth the experience. I would do it again.
Overall very tasteful and fun. Lovely décor; great service. The only improvement I would suggest is regarding the savory finger foods. They were on breads that were largely tough or stale.
This was lovely! My mother came the weekend after Mother’s Day so to celebrate I made reservations for Afternoon Tea. Perfect!
I loved being able to surprise my mother for her birthday with an elegant afternoon tea. The staff was super attentive and the savories, scones, and dessert selections were delectable. Tea was fine too, of course. The best part was our server surprising us with a special treat complete with candle and the harpist playing “Happy Birthday.” Thank you!!!
The venue is beautiful and the ambiance is lovely. Great selection of teas. Wonderful harpist provides charming musical accompaniment. Very tasty selection of scones, tea sandwiches, and treats. But the portions are tiny and the price is expensive. Still, it is a fantastic splurge for special occasions.
We had the worst service ever. The hostess did not understand we had a reservation and kept asking for my name even after she seated us. It took an extremely long time to give our tea order after we got our champagne. The tea I ordered did not remotely resemble the description on the menu. We were celebrating a birthday and the birthday treat/song had to be requested again (even though they had put s card on our table indicating a birthday). Then, getting the check was a process. I’ve gone to tea all over the world but this was not worth the price. All in all, disappointing.
The venue was perfect for a graduation celebration and the service was excellent! Our service team, to include Meizan, was superb and took great care to ensure our celebration was memorable!!
The afternoon tea was just perfect- beautiful harp music, lovely ambience, and scrummy treats! Would highly recommend and will be back again for more tea!
The most elegant relaxing (and tasty!) tea service!
I take my niece to tea at Peacock Alley every year and she loves it. They accommodate her peanut allergy so that she can have a wonderful (and safe) experience, and the wait staff are always so friendly. I highly recommend it.
The food was nice but the location and service were lacking. We love going to afternoon tea and it was not worth the hype. The hallway was not a great place for the relaxing moment for tea with your bestie. Server let our tea run out 2 times and rarely checked on us.
Service is incredibly slow. The tea area is in a hallway between the main lobby and a few event spaces expect people to to wandering through during your service.
All was great, ambiance, quality of the tea, Champaign, and the food was great. what we got for what we paid was a little off. I think it could have been a little cheaper for the quantity and the quality, still.
We were seated by the harpist. It was very pleasant having our tea and listening to her play. Our server was very nice and attentive. We have made having a Cherry Blossom Tea at the Willard our tradition when we visit D.C. during cherry blossom season.
Three friends and I enjoyed a lovely afternoon tea at Peacock Alley on April 11. The sandwiches, scones, and sweets were delicious and beautiful. The music played by the harpist added a soothing touch to the experience. The decor of Peacock Alley was lovely. This tea was a “sweet indulgence” for us.
Absolutely wonderful experience. We were able to experience the Cherry Blossom menu and it was phenomenal. Wonderful food, wonderful service, wonderful time. The tea was fabulous, the harp player helped to set the calm, relaxing mood, and the friendly staff made it an overall top notch experience.
Good tea & food experience. Ambience can vary depending on what other activities the hotel is hosting in the nearby banquet rooms since the traffic runs right thru Peacock Alley (where tea service is held).
The good: the food was great. The bad: the tea is held in the hotel hallway and there was a conference going on so the conf was full of people milling around and sitting at the tables where the tea was going to be held.
Always a nice tea —- just pricey. A little disappointed all the chairs at our table were not plush & comfy. One sat higher than all the rest.
The food and ambiance was wonderful. I don’t like servers that disappear. We would’ve ordered more if we could find our server. The entertainer sang some Disney songs (weird) and did not have the greatest voice. Just go with an instrumentalist if you can’t find a strong vocalist.
The Willard always does a lovely Cherry Blossom themed tea. This year they even made a tiny cherry tree out of chocolate and pink spun sugar. We always look forward to going to this when we visit Washington DC at Cherry Blossom time.
having the experience is a must. Please watch the bill when it is received, we paid for the champagne and only had tea! as well, try not to over stay your welcome.....the servers are not happen when customers stay to long. We had a server stand behind us an openly say "there are so many people here since 1pm, when will they go." As well, my friend got the wrong tea. Just not as grand as it was prior.
While Peacock Alley is beautifully decorated, quite a bit of foot traffic went through the hallway--a little distracting for a tea party. In addition, we waited ONE HOUR from the time we were seated (I had a reservation) until we were actually served our tea. Even then, we were served our drinks, not the scones and sandwiches. The food was delicious, but I believe there are better teas that are less expensive (with better service!) in the area.
Beautiful location for relaxing and afternoon tea. Sandwiches are wonderful, the tea selections are superb. Always an enjoyable experience.
Excellent service. The perfect place to enjoy high tea!
As with other reviews I have to say this Tea is just ok. Some of the sandwiches are nice but the scones are exceptionally dry and except for the butter the jams and curds are all of a store bought quality. The waitresses are slow and it takes awhile to get there attention. The lobby is lovely and the china and service beautiful but the food all needs to be freshen to make this as lovely as it should be.
Amazing! We had a fabulous time. The staff were friendly, professional, and extremely helpful.
Overall a lot of fun. The setting was beautiful and the food was excellent. Service was slow and somewhat inattentive. I was celebrating my birthday and they brought me a cupcake with a candle; that was very nice. However it came after I finally flagged someone down so I could get my bill.
Wonderful afternoon experience and a chance to have a quiet moment with a great friend.
