Maybe it’s because we had been to so many amazing restaurants during our visit but disappointed in the service here & cleanliness. It wasn’t bad but just not the warm professional service from the hostess to the wait staff. Saw where food is just wiped off the tables to the floor it was noticeable from the front window to the restrooms in back. Food was good just were so ready to leave after we finished eating.
Everything was great. Service, food and atmosphere. We’ll be visiting again. Scallops with risotto was our favorite.
Great food, great location, and great ambience. Would definitely go back!
The food was not that great. I had the chicken fried steak. The steak was a little over done and the gravy was not warm.
Great food. Try the biscuits for an appetizer. We would go back just for that.
Delicious food and abundant. We had to take home. Highly recommend this place.
My husband and I started with the Mac & Cheese. It was superb and with homemade noodle shells. Wonderful! For dinner we had The Market Fish (Red Snapper) which was cooked to protection and the Shrimp & Grits was the best we’ve had. Yum yum, great job all, we’ll definitely recommend y’all.
Our chicken fried steak was very well done on one side...burnt
We had biscuits and chicken fried steak. Both delicious. Unfortunately the portions are huge. We also had the best Manhattens. The service by Katherine was attentive and pleasant. I would definitely come back.
Paw Paw was recommend to me from a local friend as I was visiting Charleston. The biscuits were amazing, and the service was fantastic. Our waitress could not have been more attentive to us. the options were big.
Decent food and service. A little pricey. Not outstanding but I'd go back.
We have eaten at PawPaw’s several times in the last couple years and every time has been fantastic. The food is fresh, flavorful and beautiful. Do NOT miss the hush puppies! The shrimp and grits and fried chicken sandwich (with truffle fries!) are also favorites. Our most recent server, Ashley, was wonderful and so kind to our young kids. Heartily recommend. Eat here, I need them to stay in business for a long time!
The food was amazing, but it was incredibly hot inside the restaurant... everyone in my group was literally dripping sweat and so uncomfortable. It made it difficult to eat and enjoy the food. It was also very loud inside.
Food was awesome , waitress was awesome, overall fantastic!!Was loud so maybe not a great place for meetings.....
Relaxed atmosphere, drinks are great and fried chicken was best I have had!!
Not what we expected. Was more downscale than anticipated and we had to ask to change our table as we were shown to a back of the house location. Food though was very good. Chicken and dumplings excellent.
Had a great meal with fantastic service! Fluffy hush puppies and buttermilk biscuits were an awesome appetizer and the fried chicken and fresh grouper were prepared perfectly.
Menu has changed and even though the pork chops are no longer on menu they still are featured on the web page. The girl who brought water to the table was very personable and friendly. Waitress was not.
My wife and I ate m here for our 6th wedding anniversary. We were seated immediately, and our server greeted us with complimentary Champagne to toast to our anniversary! What a thoughtful touch! And the food, some of the best in Charleston. I’ve traveled to Charleston for years and eaten all over the city, the Biscuit appetizer (don’t think about it just order them) was not only the best biscuits I’ve ever had, but the accoutrements were the best versions of those I’ve ever had. Pimento cheese as good as my grandfather’s, and no one could touch his until now. The shrimp and grits were delicious, although I prefer the traditional Tasso ham in the dish rather than the andouille. And the Fried Chicken dinner...just don’t even look at the menu. Sit down, and order the chicken. I grew up on legit homemade fried chicken, I’m an amateur chef whose cooked fried chicken for the last 12 years in competitions in the Chicken capital of the world, Gainesville, Ga, so I know what great chicken is... and this is by far the best fried chicken I’ve put in my mouth. Period. It’s seasoned perfectly, fried to perfection (from the texture what appears to be in pressure fryers), and the collards to go with it were in the top two I’ve ever eaten. The acid in the collards bring the dish together, and cuts the richness perfectly. Don’t walk, run to this restaurant! My wife and I will definitely be back!!
Water glass was dirty and promptly exchanged. Cocktails were great! Server was wonderful. Food was just ok. Breading for the chicken fried steak and fried chicken was a bit on the salty side (and I’m one who salts food often - so that’s saying a lot). Also, the mashed potatoes were instant :( that really brought my impression down of this place. I was excited to try it and then disappointed. With so many other wonderful options in the area I will choose something else.
Date night with my fiancé. Great for date night without being to fancy.
Food and service were excellent! Be wary of bottled beer. I ordered a stout and it was $20! I like dark beer but not that much. Need to post prices and include salmon on the menu. Other than that it’s outstanding!
My wife and I dinned there for our 27th anniversary. It was our first visit. We normally do the dinner cruise. But we will go back To PawPaw on our next visit. The food was EXCELLENT, the staff was OUTSTANDING, and the location was GREAT. We took a short walk to Joe Riely park after dinner and enjoy a nice walk and seat by the bay. We HIGHLY recommend PawPaw if visiting the area. Even if your not staying very close, they are worth the short drive from Mt Pleasant or Isle of Palms.
We live in Charleston. First time here, food was good but nothing special. For the price per plate we didn't feel it was on the level of other local restaurants. Service was great. Pretty loud for 6pm on a Friday.
Hush puppies were amazing! As well as the rest of our meal!
I feel that the server could have been more knowledgeable about the menu.
Mediocre average food. Typical overpriced meal at a touristy restaurant in a touristy location.
Wife’s Birthday dinner and she chose PawPaw. Had a really nice time, good food and great atmosphere. Definitely on our list for a revisit.
This is our third or fourth time at Pawpaw and it did not meet our expectations. Food was fair, not as good as previous visits. Doubt we will return.
We really enjoyed our first visit! We’ll definitely be back in the future!
The service was wonderful! The food was amazing!! We had the fried chicken (best fried chicken ever), chicken fried steak (so moist and tender), steak (so juicy and full of flavor) and the fish special (soooooo yummy). We will definitely be back when we visit again.
My new bride and I stopped by on our honeymoon. Megan kindly brought us complimentary champagne on her own. The food was delicious. The shrimp and grits was great.
I have no specific complaints about PawPaw; the food was fine, and actually, the cocktail was quite good (I had the Aviator). Overall, though, there was nothing especially memorable about the experience. Despite the fact that I went early and the room was fairly empty, my server was disinterested and was impatient with questions about the menu. The scallop risotto was good, but that's the most descriptive thing I can say about it. Again, at a fairly slow time of the day, I was seated in the back of dining room, near the waiters' station. Unnecessarily drab, and a forgettable experience.
Excellent! We loved everything about our experience at PawPaw. The food was delicious. The service was impeccable. I loved the decor.
Food excellent but Very disappointed in service and no local fresh fish specials. Waiter told us salmon was on special because they had it last night! Told us they were out of scallops then came back and said they had scallops, the chef just didn’t want to make risotto for the dish. Then he came back to tell us he had forgotten the other order. We stared at a dirty table next to us most of the evening. We had heard good things, not up to par for a Charleston dining experience
We had a wonderful date night out. We don’t get out much and treating ourselves to a night out is very rare! I had the swordfish, which was wonderful!!!! Probably one of the best fish I’ve ever tried. My boyfriend had the steak. A little over priced for what we payed. But over all it was really great! Have and would definitely recommend!
Unexpectedly poor experience. Have eaten there several times but won’t be back for awhile. All of the food was over salted to the point that 2 dishes weren’t edible. Another dish the scallops with risotto had such a strong apple taste that it was like eating applesauce - which didn’t work with the scallops nor the risotto. The biscuits and hush puppies were still exceptional
Had reservations at 7:30 arrived 15 minutes early to them say we had to wait for our table to clear, went to the bar ordered drinks. Escorted to our table, which was right when you walked in, which no one had been sitting at since we got there. Anyways, food was pretty good. Our server, Ashley, was phenomenal. We had a large party next to us which made it hard to have a conversation over theirs, but overall a. Good experience
Disappointed by limited menu and high prices. My scallops were soft like Jell-O. B. Perhaps undercooked. The best of the menu were the homemade biscuits. The fried chicken was alright but not for $25!
Food was good, service sucked. Was during the day needed for workers
