Pavilion Restaurant & Bar at Flamboro Downs Ratings and Reviews
Although he food was pretty good, and we were there to watch the horse races, the service was absolutely awful. We made a reservation hours ahead, yet our table for 10 was not ready when we arrived. We waited 40 minutes until our drinks arrived at the table, and our food order had not yet been taken. Our pina colada's arrived in glasses with salted rims!!!! (yuck) and had to be sent back which made the wait even longer. There were no table checks to see if we needed refills, and the service was not even very friendly when someone did show up at our table. Very disappointing considering we had taken guests from out of town.
Food and menu were great. Only negative was the service. Our waitress was terrible. We had a table of six and wanted to split our bill. After a member of our table had to assist the waitress with splitting up the bills and telling her what was on each bill, she over-charged us two shrimp skewers that no one had. When I brought it up, her response was "that's funny because we went through the bills together" making a reference to my brother telling her what was on each persons bill. Also, she did nothing to rectify the situation. I would recommend better customer service in the future as I will likely never eat there again
I booked the upper dinning area for our 21 wedding anniversary the reservation bumped me to the lower level due to private party. I had no idea until I was on site. they then sat us close to the track but behind a poll. staff never replaced our cutlery we shared 1 fork, knife and 1 napkin. we only stayed for 1 drink and an appetizer. we left very disappointed.
We were a group of 4 friends that decided to "go to the races" for an evening out. Before we sat down I had to brush crumbs off my chair. The tablecloth had a couple of spills on it and also had crumbs on it. I was reluctant to use my napkin - couldn't be sure that it was actually clean. The server was very difficult to understand - he mumbled. He brought our entrees and came back less than 5 minutes later and asked if we wanted to see the dessert menu and order tea or coffee. When we did finish our entrees and told him that we were not going to order dessert and coffee he brought us the bill - without asking if we were ready for the bill. We were going to order more drinks - but decided not to. He obvioulsy wanted us to leave, so we did! We felt totally rushed. The food was OK - not great. I would not go back to this restaurant. And I would not recommend it to anyone.
I ordered the ultimate grilled cheese without onions, it came with onions. Not many fries and they were cold. No Coors Lite in tap which I found surprising. The races were cancelled....I understand why this was done. We went to the casino not many 1 cent machines. We were there celebrating New Year's Eve.
We were disappointed that it is no longer a buffet. We have been going there at Christmas for a number of years and always enjoyed the buffet. The staff told us that there was a large notice on the website announcing the change... but, I went looking for it and could not find anything of the sort.
A family supper for my husbands birthday..good table by window with view of racing which my grandson loved as he could walk up to the doors and watch in or outside.
There was a great choice for food.
The manager came by the explain about the betting as it was our first time...it was so much fun..then we rounded off the evening at the slots for a short time...we would defiantly come again.
booked this thinking it was the buffet
chicken fingers overcooked
wings were only suppose to be hot but more like
suicide as hot to lips
service terrible and reserved table was by
check in desk awful this was not on comps but cash
went again on Monday
service still terrible saw somebody walk out because of slowness
prime rib was good, service was good, but the buffet selection was blah pork dry, chicken dry and boring, potatoes were nothing great, salmon dry, vegetables looked like they were warmed from a can not very fresh no flavour for $27.00 not great, only went because of the racing
The food here is good, but there is not a large selection like you'd get at other buffets. Everything is scaled down due to limited space. Shrimp, small salad & bread bar with 1 soup offering. Hot entrees this visit included: pineapple pork, meatless tortellini, fish, and roast beef. Dessert table had a number of different types of cakes (all white except 1) and some squares and 2 different types of pies (I wanted Pecan, but they didn't have it this visit). At $26.95, I find it a little pricey for what you get. A bottle of wine will cost you about $30 (again, markup was a little steep for a local Niagara wine). We go here for dinner when we want to gamble afterwards. We are not regulars due to the price but rather opt to eat at the other food place, where are prices are more reasonable and the servings are big. They have a poutine to die for.
THIS VISIT WAS NOT AS GOOD AS PREVIOUS TIMES. THERE NEEDS TO BE MORE STAFF ON THE FLOOR. OUR WAITRESS WAS PLEASANT BUT HARD TO GET HER ATTENTION , SHE HAD SO MANY PEOPLE TO LOOK AFTER.
THE BUFFET WAS SOMEWHAT DISAPPOINTING, NOT AS GOOD AS EXPERIENCED ON OTHER VISITS.
I enjoy going to the buffet almost every Saturday. The people are great and it is a fun time.Last visit although I got great service from Connie as my server,I found the food not up to the usual standard. The side dishes were overspiced and the first roast beef was overcooked and dry.The second roast that came out was better tasting. My guest also noticed a decline in food quality.
The prepared desserts are always great but I have noticed lately there is no fresh fruit available.
I realize prices for fruit are high yet they are a healthier choice and their absence is noticed.
These issues are why my guest and I will be dining elsewhere in the near future.
Main course and starters fresh and good. Desserts should be better. Pies were ok. You need fresh fruit, not canned or bottled. And vary your toppings or icons to cakes - real cream with just a little sugar, mousse , custard - aim for delicious vs. pretty but tastes like lard.
The entire night was not a positive experience to say the least....for the price it was awful...I took my family as a holiday treat and from the start it was a let down. Server came and sat us by the window and then all went downhill. Asked for our drink order and if we wished programs (which by the way should be offered complimentary for those having dinner) then i had to go and get them so we could wager on the first race....desert bar was very good, but the rest of the buffet was not....hot food was warm at best, most salads had olive oil (yuck...who decided that we all need a good dose of olive oil...just give plain salads with mayo or other dressing) and sometimes you gad to wait because the site was understaffed...if you are open staff correctly....shouldn't have to wait for carved warm roast beef to be carved while that person is replenishing food items. Just a suggestion....salads should include a regular coleslaw, regular potato salad, some salad items for a garden salad, and identify the dressings with either spoon labels or tags. As for the soup, i watched and only saw one person eat the soup...who serves a weird soup like navy bean soup at a buffet, unless there is a second choice like mushroom, minestrone, or clam chowder or perhaps even a tomato bisque...you know a regular soup...then there was the watery gravy...either make a gravy or make a juice but 3 containers of the same runny gravy did not make sense...and turkey was dry. The best part of the whole nite was the races, but i could have saved a lot of money to bet more by just sitting in the stands. I would rate the entire night disappointing especially since 2 members of our party were from out of province and were looking for a good time and received a disappointing meal...especially for the price.
Please sign me as not a happy diner!
Somewhat disappointed to be honest. I was not aware it was a buffet- therefore not prepared to spend $30.00 a person. When I previewed the website it stated buffet was Saturdays so I purposely chose Sunday for that reason- then to get there and be told that due to the holidays the buffet was being served on Sunday as well. There is no way anyone in my party ate $30.00 worth of food. The buffet was actually very poor, with VERY limited choices. We were celebrating my mom's 65th birthday, I was kind of embarrassed that I didn't know it was a buffet night.
Overall the dining experience was good however I'm a vegetarian and there wasn't much for me to choose from. My family loved all the MEAT!!!! I would have preferred a veggie burger from the other section; I had one last time I was there and it was fabulous. Service was great.
The buffet is the best deal, for excellent food,in the entire Hamilton area. There is a wide variety and everyone is polite and helpful.
The only criticism i had on this last visit is that the dark meat on the turkey was very dry.It had good flavour but was so tough I could hardly cut it.
Enjoyed very much, we tend to go for birthdays in September and November. Food is delicious, loved the prime rib (could be cooked a bit longer) and yorkshire, only thing is ran out of yorkshire before each of our party (8 in total) was able to have one. Atmosphere is fabulous and easy to go outside for a race if preferred. Our waitress was very good, appreciate how well we were taken care of.
Provided you ensure you are not placed at a table along the line up for people places their bets, I'm sure your dinner might be more enjoyable than ours. I booked weeks in advance yet were placed near the exit doors to the track and along the line up area for placing bets. It felt as though our table for two was an add on in the isle of the dining area. As we were celebrating our 33rd anniversary at an activity we enjoy, the dining area was not conducive to an enjoyable dinner. The noise level on the scale above says energetic but I would say disruptive at times. The ambiance as indicated was poor only because of the placement of the table. At times it felt as though we were in the way or a disruption to the people attempting to place bets. I would have preferred the opportunity to enjoy a dinner at the "Top o' the Turn" but alas, it wasn't open.
We usually go to the Sunday buffet during the race season. Prices then are $26.95 p/p. This special Saturday buffet is $15.95 and does not contain most of the food that the Sunday buffet offers. There was a small salad and bread bar. One soup was offered (Minestrone) and the rest was roast pots. mixed veg, a chicken and pork and fish dish was offered as well as a pasta in tomotoe sauce. There was a good selection of desserts as well. It's not as nice as the Sunday buffet but the price was right so we thought we'd try it. The real reason we went was because it was just too darn hot to cook that nite (40 degrees Celcius). I wouldn't go again but will return for the Sunday buffet (more choices including shrimp, more entrees, more pasta choices and also carved roast beef with horseradish).
Recently my family returned to the Flamborough Pavilion to celebrate another Birthday for the second time in six months.
The service from our servers have always been great and very accommodating by meeting all our needs even beyond our expectations. This was made even more apparent when the chef visited our table once again to explain to two of our guests what the vegan selection was as we noted this requirement upon making our reservation.
I highly recommend this as a teenager/young adult Birthday party as it makes for a lot of fun cheering on your favourite horse and returning to the buffet before you get your next bet in.
Thank you again
