Enjoyed our time at Paulaner Brauhaus. Food and beer was excellent. Service was very slow because it appeared that there was only one waitress for the restaurant and many runners.

Solid adaptation of German cuisine for an American bar scene. Pleasantly surprised a kids menu was offered. Beer was the highlight and primary reason I would return sans kids. Nice booths for small parties but best use for this place is for large groups looking for a spot for a spirited dinner or night out for casual drinks.

Excellent food and beer! Nice menu, including many selections besides the typical beer garden items. Excellent smoked trout and pretzel appetizers and I love the cod dish. A must try!

They were not prepared for the crowd that showed up to watch a soccer game. The staff was totally overwhelmed. I won't hold it against them because I've been several times, but they need to re-evaluate how many employees they have working during any soccer finals.

we came on a quiet, grey sunday afternoon to grab a drink and snack. it was almost empty but has a great atmosphere that would clearly be a fun place when there's a sports event or it's more crowded. most significant to me was that i am currently on crutches and the staff saw when i stood up to use the restroom, which is downstairs. the maitre d' promptly caught up with me and escorted me to the staff restroom in order to avoid the stairs. greatly appreciated!! sometimes when a restaurant is quiet, the service is worse as the staff slacks off, but here, their attention never faltered. we enjoyed the service, atmosphere, and food - we'll all be back :)

I was a little disappointed. I was looking for an authentic German Biergarten. While the food was very good, the atmosphere was a little phony to me. The music was modern and trendy (rap and pop) as opposed to cultural themed music. While it was a nice restaurant, and decorated "Germanish", it wasn't exactly what I was looking for. What salvaged the evening for me is that the service was excellent, and the food was very tasty. It depends on what you're looking for. So if you want a lot of German influence, I don't think this is it.

Lovely service, festive atmosphere, disappointing food. Perhaps the wurst and other meats are this restaurant's specialities. This place is not a good choice for vegetarians. The creamed spinach was watery and the spaetzle was like overcooked egg noodles.

Came here with some family (including a 16 month old) over the weekend for an early dinner. Staff was very nice and accommodating. The music was a bit odd - like top 40 from the 90s and early 2000's, which I usually like but this was like Smashmouth ... Food was ok - I had the bratwurst and sauerkraut, we had the pretzel with beer cheese, the fried camembert. Two people had the weiner schnitzel and said it was really good. The potato salad was unappetizing, didn't like it at all. Soupy and gloppy. The brat was good though, just fine. Raddegast in Brooklyn has good 10x better, but this is good if you just want beers and snacks and don't want to leave the island.

This is my second trip to Paulaner. I always enjoy the food selection, though I do feel there could be more in the way of traditional German and Austrian food. The eisbein (pork knuckle) with crackling exterior was especially good. Don't be fooled by its place on the entree menu, it definitely serves 2-3. Criticisms: Given all of the beers that Paulaner is responsible for brewing, I would have expected a greater selection of Paulaner beers - There were only four. Also, their website mentions the Winter seasonal beer, which was not available in the restaurant. Lastly, in spite of two servers waiting on six tables, it took over twenty minutes to get the attention of one, which is a bit disappointing.

Paulaner is not your typical German restaurant: no oompah-music and moderate decor. The brewing machinery on display is a plus. Service was good and attentive. The beer is good but not outstanding (brewed on site). The food was uneven and somewhat overpriced. The mixed sausage platter was a disappointment (poor selection of mustards, sausages overcooked and too much of the same. The 'weisswurst" is a travesty. The other entrees were better. Dessert: Sachertorte a big disappointment (too hard, too cold) and had to be sent back. In all, only a mixed experience.

We went for the Christmas Dinner special menu. It was our first time at the restaurant. From the start, the seasonal decoration warmed us up after an hour walk in the cold. All the staff was really friendly and helpful, the waitress being adorable and a ray of sunshine. The food was very tasty and we were not disappointed. We had an order of five beer samples (0.1L each) and I think there's a beer for any taste (basically pale, light, dark, strong, IPA). Great experience. We'll try again on a regular day.

Sadly disappointed. Pricey food for the quality, service was friendly enough and hospitable but frustrating (had to flag down a server to order a beverage, entrees arrived two min after apps and right on top of them, kitchen forgot a requested simple modification to my order). Beer not great considering they brew it. Would not return.

We visited Paulaner's on a late Saturday afternoon during the Xmas season, there was a moderate size crowd, I would expect it to be more crowded in the evening. If you like German food, this is the place with a good variety of exceptional dishes. The draft beer was all Paulaner's (to be expected) and was about as close to Munich as you can get without being there!

Terrible food and ambiance. Let me start by saying that this place was highly disappointing and overrated. I gave it a "D" grade. - Food was cold, tasteless and old. A mediocre attempt at German food. - Ambiance is sort of a sports bar, or a beer bar/ brewery with a confused identity (not a German feel) - Service was poor. It took forever to get served and when asked for what was taking so long, the servers were rude and didn't seem to care about customers. It was 30% busy with several waiters walking about with nothing to do.

Very friendly, very good and great in house brewed beers! Liked the food & have no crazy foodie complaints at all. I took my brother and one of his twenty something sons to scout it out - we are always looking for friendly places accommodating a large family group. We live in Lincoln Square UWS area so we had to "commute" downtown, a big deal for New Yorkers who confine eating to a ten block radius. Even though there are many places for good food & drink in the city in all price ranges, not a lot have friendly service - big groups are rush out the door to get turnover and higher end places are often very snobby while doing it. Paulaner has a very energetic vibe and it's rustic looks seem best for it's East Village locals. We are energetic seniors who enjoy our millennial and gen x family members toting young children and we had no issues. We like beer and we liked it here a lot.

This is SUCH a fun place! We have started an Oktoberfest tradition that's continuing because of this place in particular. Great beer options, excellent GERMAN food from all over the country. And, of course, Oktoberfest music and seating. We had a great time and enjoy coming back year after year.

The beer is fantastic and the place has a great, relaxed vibe, but the food is disappointing. I've been there four times and every time the Germans and Austrians I've been with have been disappointed with the spaetzle, potato pancakes, and even the sauerkraut. I still go back, though, for the beer and friendly atmosphere.

I was here celebrating my boyfriend's birthday and the experience was amazing! The food was great and the beer flight was THE BEST. Definitely recommend coming here for good food and good beer. The staff is also super friendly and accommodating -- they even brought out a cake with a candle on it to celebrate his birthday!
