Paul Martin's American Grill - Westlake Village Ratings and Reviews
After several repeated visits where the service and ambiance were great, we have been repeatedly disappointed by the quality, presentation, flavor, and preparation of the food. The kitchen is lacking, both at lunch and dinner. They need some major improvements if they expect to survive in the area.
The food was good to very good
My wife had the steak sandwich, she said the prime rib sandwich at Tam O Shanter is better. I had the short ribs, excellent. They brought is a complimentary artichoke, very good. Nice restaurant, attentive staff. Would go back. The 1,000 was nice too.
I was not thrilled with the level of service or value from our meal. I was underwhelmed by the portions of the skirt steak as well as the balance of flavors in the grill salad. I would probably only go back for happy hour/drinks because the ambiance is pleasing. Other than that, not my first choice..
We have always enjoyed Paul Martins Restaurant. We discovered it in Manhattan Beach on Rosecrantz when our niece lived there. I was happy to find it in Westlake Village.
However, the noise level is concerning. But I understand that most restaurants have turned to that level of noise, with no carpeting and no acoutic ceiling.
The service was very slow last Saturday, November 11th. Our food did arrive slightly warm, which was a disappointment. But we were so very hungry that we ate it anyway. It was still very tasty.
Came here with a friend for dinner and really enjoyed the food. We ordered a salad that they split for us, which was really appreciated and was unexpected. Our server was friendly and made us feel welcome. I would highly recommend this restaurant. Great food and if you want to sit outside they have heaters.
Located in outdoor mall just off 101 FWY at Westlake Village Blvd. Spacious interior with nice bar area and booths/tables. Our party of 4 sat on the patio which is great on a warm night. Happy Hour lasts until 7:00 p.m., so we ordered from the HH Menu. Prices are quite reasonable.
The "Bistro Burger" includes grass-fed angus beef, Tillamook cheddar or Pt. Reyes blue cheese, artisan pickles, black pepper aioli and shoe-string fries is very good and huge. It was almost too large for me because I can barely open my mouth wide enough to get a good bite! We ordered an appetizer salad which was large enough for my wife and I to share. She had the "Grilled Polenta" which consists of sautéed vegetables, roasted tomato cream, and fresh parmesan. She really loved it! Server was excellent, attentive and helped make it a very enjoyable evening. Manager came by and asked if we enjoyed our meal and made us feel welcome. We brought a bottle of wine from home and they chilled it and made no fuss that we brought our own wine. First time visitor, but we will be back.
Note: At times, it can be a bit noisy on the patio from passing cars (esp. loud motorbikes) on Westlake Blvd., but it did not distract from a very enjoyable evening.
I had requested a booth in my reservation request but one was not available when I arrived. We would have had to wait for one which we did not have time to do so. Usually the food is very good at PM. The steak this time was a bit on the chewy side. Our server did attend to us quickly and food was brought out quick per our request (we were going to a movie).
We have dined here may times previously. Service was friendly and attentive. Food was served promptly. My wife had Salmon Tacos which she enjoyed. I had Cedar Planked Steelhead which was just satisfactory. The meal wasn't particularly warm when served and seemed the plate was watery. The spinach was enjoyed, but the fish tasted like bacon or ham, salty and not a flavor that I liked. The tomato soup was wonderful. The menu choices seemed quite limiting tonight. We will try you again.
Third time dining here and service and food quality have declined. While they did meet some of my friends food requests the birthday dinner fell flat. Shrimp cocktail was good - was missing horseradish (finely chopped garlic does not count). Filets were good, but lobster tail was rubbery. Entrees took forever to arrive and friend's birthday was virtually ignored - not sure why table next to us rated a birthday song while my friend received a whispered "happy birthday" - not like it was being kept a secret. Should have gone to a different restaurant the minute we were greated by the bland hostess. Very disappointing experience.
The Service is always excellent. Unfortunately the food this visit was not very good. First my husband and I both got the Onion Soup which I had the last time I was there and it was delicious. This time...the soup was lukewarm and the cheese did not fully melt on the top. For my Entree I had the Marinated Skirt Steak. First it was very tough so hard to chew and really not that flavorful for being marinated and second you only receive 4 slices (which was okay because I couldn't finish what I had). My husband had the Blackened Rib Eye. Unfortunately this piece of meat was very touch as well and it was a Rib Eye. Like I said the service excellent the food not so much.
