Paul Martin's American Grill - San Mateo Ratings and Reviews
We dined on a Monday nite, when there is a promotional $65 per couple wine & dinner pairing. We were treating another couple and the waitress kept reminding us that we would be charged an upgrade for items not included. After telling (Ashley)we did NOT care about these extra charges, she continually reminded us that we would be charged for these extra upgrades. So annoying! If PM is so concerned about the confusion, they should just clearly state on the menu what is on or off limits! It was so embarrassing 😔
I have been here many times and always had a good meal but this time was very disappointing. The service was very slow . The food was OK but not as good as usual. My friends entree was supposed to have chicken in it but did not. The manager did take the charge off the bill which was very nice but my friend was disappointed in her meal. The service was not up to par. i will go back because I have always like this restaurant and i understand everyone can have an off night.
We took our granddaughters there for Valentines Day. They loved the french fries and hamburger. The fruit that comes with it was fresh. Apples outstanding.
Our meal was nice as well. Server seemed a little preoccupied or maybe had too many tables. But our food was warm when we got it.
Thank you for making our day special.
Service was great. Food was great. Victoria was our serveur one of our two faves! Fiance had HH burger and Hogue red. I had the Fried Chick Special, salad was huge and included avocados! yum, was able to eat two pcs of the delicious fried chick and a bit of the mashed potatoes (took the rest to go) had to save room for the campfire sundae. Have to say prefer the one scoop of pistachio ice cream and TWO shortbreads. The marshmallow TOO sweet for me. Ashley stopped by. We like the casual atmosphere of the bar booth. Too bad we'll have to get formal and go to the DR where Ashley is one of these days. NOTE to Hostess: Please remember to check off OT reservation. Just happened to look at my emails after dinner & noticed I was an OT NO show! Manager (older gentleman) was there but did not swing by. NBD
Quality of service and food seem to be on the decline. The grilled artichoke was served at room temperature with the exception of a few chilled sections. Overall it’s A decent experience. But not as good as it has been. Prices are too high for the quality of food a service. We will think twice before returning.
The steak and French onion soup were yummy. I asked for a simple side salad and the waiter said the menu changed and didn’t have a side salad option and pointed to a $13 salad. Was disappointed in the waiters service the whole time we were there, didn’t seem like he cared to take care of us.
A first at PM...A less than stellar experience. On a Friday night, there was no Anchor Steam & the replacement was the worst I've ever had. Then there was a French dip sandwich that lacked any taste...how do you do this? As usual&luckily, the roasted chicken & potatoes were delicious.
Four of us ordered a salad, an entree, and a desert. After a long wait the entree's came. We reminded the waiter we had ordered a salad. He took the entree's back and, after a moderate wait, brought us salads that were so overdressed they were almost uneatable. He brought us back the same entree's which were now overcooked. Then he brought us the bill with an extra charge for an item we did not order. An all together miserable experience. When this restaurant opened it was very good, but each time we have gone back the prices have increased and the experience has suffered. We won't go back.
Two Prime Rib Three-Course Specials, caesars generous, prime ribs strange uneven cuts, i.e., fiancé had a small slice and I had a thick on one side and thin on other side (uneven) slice. Can't help wondering if our slices were leftovers or end pieces? The subsequent prime ribs coming out to other tables were more evenly portioned. Prime rib tasted good anyways. Fiance had a Hogue red. Finished with pistachio ice cream (one shortbread each.) Had to request two more as your promotion states shortbreads plural. In the past Xavier the mgr/owner would stop by missed that touch. The one manager on sight never acknowledged us. Took a while for Maria to come by and take our order.
Made reservation for 2 during the 1000 bonus point time frame and it was confirmed by email. Last minute change in plans required me to go alone. Paul Martins restaurant denied my 1000 points because only 1 showed up instead of 2. For this reason, I will not recommend this restaurant.
Still a long way to go for this to be a great restaurant choice. This time was definitely better than the last 6-7 times. Kitchen is still way to slow, and service poor. Raising the prices was a bad idea. $45 for a NY steak that the kitchen can NEVER cook right is simply insane. This is more than any other restaurant in the area.
Changing servers and front of house management seems to have helped. Now Corporate management need to blow up the kitchen staff to keep this place going. This is the slowest Resturant on the Penninsula.
This is my second lunch event here and for the second time was dissappointed in the quality of the food and the service. I will not be lunching here again in the future. That said, I have had very good experiences here in the evenings. The mid-day crew does not meet the standards of the dinner staff.
When placing our orders the waitress was very short with us stating that they were under staffed and will be back when we were ready. Once we ordered 4 of us stated we wanted our meat pink, she told us her interpretation of pink was Medium instead of letting the chef make that call, 3 of the entrees came out rare (red) and the other over done (brown all the way through). Also they served the adults first and then we waited 5 minuets for the children to be served. She did correct the mistake with the Mac and Cheese that was asked to be made without ham, but came with it. She had it remade but it came after we were almost done with the meal. She did take it off the bill.
This was our second time dinning at Paul Martin’s, but first time in San Mateo, the other time was in Mt. View. Both times the service was bad as well as the food. We will not be returning.
We were celebrating a birthday with a party of 6 and had an early res, but happy hour isn't offered at tables. The calamari is good. Salads were not interesting and need broader scope of choices. The Sunday Prime Rib special was great and would go back for that. The Rib-eye was fine but not a good value for $37 price, 2 brick chicken orders were good and the 2 halibuts were slightly dry and the asparagus wasn't tasty. Our server was very nice but seems over extended with other tables so we had to seek him out a few times. There's a lot of reviews concerning serve issues so hope management can work it out soon. Another suggestion is to refresh the menu. Entrees had a main item and one side, usually a vegetable so we needed to order extra sides, which makes meals expensive or we'd leave hungry.
The food here is tasty. However, the service has failed to meet the mark the last 3 out of 4 times I have been here. From slow, inattentive waiters to failure to bring a drink. There's always something and, frankly, for the prices, the service should be solid. I'll think long and hard before spending my money here again.
We were given a gift certificate so we decided to go on a Sunday night when they have a full dinner of prime rib (includes salad, side and dessert) for $34. The place is very attractive and although it was almost full, we could easily hear each other talk. We were seated in a very nice booth above the tables and it was quite romantic. The entire dinner was delicious. The Cesear Salad was perfectly dressed, the prime rib was tender and done exactly as we had asked. I had the grilled sweet potatoes and they were excellent. Dessert was decadent ice cream. I would really recommend this place for a date.
It was just ok for me. The steak was good but very greasy overall. Our service was - meh - enthusiastic at first and once the food came out never saw our server again. Wasn't my choice for the girl's dinner but tried to get behind it. Just not very exciting.
