Our server David was awesome. He seemed to be managing several tables & was doing a great job. He was constantly checking back with us to make sure we were ok. Our date night dinner was great! Thank you!!
Great time. The food was excellent, our waiter was really friendly and his suggestions were on point. The cocktails were delicious. All good!
It was so loud on the patio we had to yell to be heard by the people at our own table. It ruined the experience and we probably won’t be back as a result.
Food and service were good, but a little pricey. Of course this Paul Martin’s is located in the very expensive San Francisco Bay Area.
Paul Martin's never disappoints! Food and service are perfection!
The service was not thorough.
Our food presentation snd good was not good.
We had guests from out of town, how embarrassing.
I had the shrimp tacos, no flavor s little sauce on the tortilla , so I asked for hot sauce yo give it flavor.
I would have hoped restaurants roils have improved during Covid
Brought our pup and sat on the screened patio. The hostess was utterly bored by the job so we almost left but we stayed. They’re clearly short-handed with the service shortage but overall a solid four star experience. We had some wine and an appetizer of cauliflower. I had tacos which were delicious and my husband had a burger also delicious though overbooked. We shared sweet potato fries - very good and crispy. Didn’t feel like dessert this visit but we will be back. Friendly service and good food with only a few glitches.
Our server was Jordon. Although she’s new she really new the menu. Her recommendations were spot on. She made the evening with friends so enjoyable. I recommend Paul Matins.
Service was very good and so was the food ... enjoyed being outside.
We have been there about 5 times and this time all 5 of us were really happy with our meals!!
WOW! Our experience was amazing. Reserved a table for 8 on OpenTable. They put us in a private room, which was perfect. The staff was friendly and our waiter was great. The food and drinks were really good as well. I will definitely be back.
Food quality for the price paid was not good. The comments went unheard.
This is a nice-looking restaurant with an upscale, comfortable environment. Some of the entrees were quite good, but overall we felt like the dishes lacked strong flavor, especially the onion soup, vegetable sides, mac and cheese, etc. The menu is strong but the kitchen just needs to do a little tasting/enhancing to bring this up to 4 stars. This being said, the waitress was very kind and brought my daughter a small cake for her birthday and was very responsive.
Good was not up to par this time around
Had a delicious burger cooked exactly the way I ordered it. Can’t beat that!
Understandably the service was a little slow, most likely due to the pandemic. Very much appreciate though the effort from your service staff.
The manager on duty was kind enough to come over and check on us and thank us for visiting Paul Martin's. My comment is that his personal space is less than comfortable for our likely. Would have appreciated if he was another foot or two standing from our table and that he not have touched out table. No big deal, just wanted to offer suggestion that makes Paul Martin's that already a great place a bit better. Thanks.
Looking forward to visiting your restaurant again in the near future.
It was for my sons birthdays. And the appetizers were good and the cocktails too. But when it came to dinner it was disappointing. I hade the Sole Holiday special and the fish was dry and barely any sauce. The veggies were soggy. My one sone steak dinner was bland and under cooked. My other sone had the fish tacos and he said they were good. I completely understand that places are understaffed and I did take that into consideration. Service was slow and drink refills were non existent. Never was followed up in about how our meal was. I gave a very good tip to our waiter because I understand the situation because of COVID and it is holiday. But you need to step it up. I will come back but only for happy hour
Shoutout to our server Manuel! 5 ⭐️ service.
Food were 4⭐️
We had reserved for outdoor dining weeks before our birthday lunch. The day before, I called to confirm and the young lady who I spoke with confirmed the party size and outdoor seating. Less than 30 mins. before the reservation , I get two missed calls from Paul Martin’s. I call back and I am told the entire outdoor patio is reserved and we will be sitting indoors. I was not happy at all and was told it was a mistake (not even their mistake, hardly apologetic. With 4 young kids, we intentionally reserved outdoor dining weeks beforehand and to be told day-of and less than 30 mins. before we arrive, this is not organized nor a good experience. I won’t be considering PM for another special occasion after this experience.
My group and I got a great time getting together at Paul Martin's. The service was great!
We will be back!
Nice restaurant, but unfortunately, service was entirely too slow throughout the whole process. Once seated, waited for the server for about 10 mins before getting a drink/water or even acknowledged. The server was really nice, but still everything took so long. Our party just chalked it up to the holidays and large parties.
Outstanding food and service for our holiday party.
The hostess and servers work very hard and made what could have been an unhappy experience into a great visit! I brought a group of 12 volunteers to Paul Martin's for an end-of-year thank you happy hour. I'd called a few weeks prior to reserve one of the long tables near the bar for happy hour. I was told that those tables could not be reserved, but happy hour was available 3-6pm. So I made a reservation for 12 via Open Table. When we showed up I was told we couldn't order from the happy hour menu at that table, and that a large group had a (grandfathered) reservation at one of the long tables at the bar (made before a change in management apparently). In any case, the hostess was polite and rapidly sought to get our group to a table where we could order from the happy hour menu. Situation resolved in minutes. And the server taking care of the bar section was on her own but didn't miss a beat. A small snafu turned into a fantastic experience, I hope the staff is rewarded for their great work!
First time dining with this chain. Had to prepare a special menu for a group gathering: very easy process. There was a small mixup with the initial distribution of menus. Otherwise quite satisfied. Service was friendly and able; food portions good and food tasty. Place can be noisy. Parking can be a challenge but that is more the mall’s limitations. Would definitely go back.
We were seated right away but food came out while we were having an appetizer. Had to send the cucumber on appetizer plate back because it was old and slimy. By the time we got the new cucumber, the dips were pretty much gone. We had to go to the bar to get our own beverage then they didn’t have the wine we ordered. They did substitute a comparable bottle. When our main dish came out, it was cold. Those two meals were sent back while the other two people ate. Our table basically had two separate meals. Timing was all off and when our reheated meals came back, they were given to the wrong people. One dinner was comped but the experience was not good. You could actually hear the kitchen staff yelling at the waiters from out table.
Very accommodating to all our requests and friendly service
The hostess, Emily, went above and beyond the normal effort to make our visit there exactly what we had hoped for! We can’t commend her enough! She is a very rare example of true PERSONAL customer service. She should be recognized and rewarded!
I like it there but menu tends to be a little pricey.
Good. Quiet Fast Efficient and tasty
Paul Martin's San Mateo was always a restaurant that had excellent food and service. I was always happy to pay their prices because the food was exceptional. Not so anymore. We went for lunch and once seated, the waitress who took our order, brought our drinks and disappeared for quite a while. The food took really long to come out, which was delivered to the table and again no waitress in sight. We couldn't even find her to ask for some sugar for the Iced Tea that was ordered. The food was mediocre at best. The Steakhouse Cobb was drenched in dressing, the Brick Chicken for $35 was so small, no croutons and the cherry tomatoes were burnt, not blistered and the flavor was just not there. Sad to cross this restaurant off our list.
We were extremely disappointed to find that all the regular menu items we were looking forward to, were no longer on the menu (fried chicken, French onion soup, Chinese chicken salad and their famous artichokes). The food we ordered was mediocre at best and still very expensive. My husband's short ribs were tough, my daughter's French dip sandwich had no flavor and my Asian noodle salad was lousy. The salad dressing was fine but the mango was underripe, the greens were overdressed, the noodles were too firm and the chicken had no flavor. Even my son's Mac and cheese was odd (not the same as they used to serve).
Everything was bad , food / services / noise /
The fired New York steak is a joke !! Worst in my life
Not as good as expected. Not bad. But not a mouth watering experience. The one thing that really stood up is that they have NO DESSERT menu.😓
We went there for the steak, but the steak wasn’t really that great. The steak was ok, but not anything more than that
Best burger ever!!! Great food, cocktails & service! Looking forward to returning soon!
Wonderful Thanksgiving Dinner
The service was just all right. Brought us too many salads and short on soups as well as side dishes. They didn’t know who order soup or salad. The food was only lukewarm. The highlight was the dessert, pumpkin cheesecake. It was delish. Overall, my first time eating out on Thanksgiving was just ok.
Will not be back unfortunately...service was HORRIBLE... food was just ok
we have been here many times...no more 😢
What a wonderful experience for Thanksgiving! Really great food, great service and overall lovely day! Thank You!
We went for happy hour. After we were seated by hostess it took 20 - 25 mins to be acknowledged by waitress. Their “system” didn’t make sense to me. Our waitress was very busy but one other from a different section (outside seating) only was tending to 1-2 tables so she must’ve walked by a dozen times. Seems to me if one section of restaurant is congested and other is not someone should step in, at least to help temporarily when there is people waiting to be helped.
Recently, friends and I had brunch at this location in Hillsdale and it was not very good. I had the crab cakes Benedict and was halfway through it before I remembered it was crab. The crab cakes had very little flavor. My friends had the omelette and it did not look good plus the avocado toast looked pathetic.
