I had average service. The manager kept coming around asking if I was ok but I was already over it. I was sat at the worst table in the restaurant. About two hours after eating an ok meal I spent 30 minutes in the restroom!!!!!

Great food, nice space, good for large groups, large bar space to mingle while waiting on table, and best of all plenty of parking readily available.

Love Paul Martins but waitress made a mistake on our order. She didn’t really own up to it. However we are not picky eaters so ate what was brought! And.,,it was good just not what we were expecting. We will be back and order what we originally wanted!! All good!! It happens!!!

Family dinner. Food is excellent. Server was attentive. Woman who greeted us at the front was not friendly - as if it was a real effort for her to do her job - she barely said one word to us. We have experienced this before at Paul Martin’s. They need someone new to greet people. Such a good restaurant deserves to have a better hostess greeting people.

In the past I have always been satisfied with the food and service, however on this occasion the food was not great. The Chinese chicken salad was missing the mandarin oranges which the server had to bring separately.
The Ahi tuna happy hour item said it had advacado cream? It had what tasted light store bought guacamole, gross! Completely ruined the ahi tuna. I will think twice about recommending this restaurant in the future. Obviously there are problems with the kitchen and consistency.

Sorry, but I felt there should have been more waitresses or waiters to accommodate the customers. Also, those little biscuits that were brought to the table were not very good. They were hard and tasteless and I almost could not cut them open. The meal was just okay, but the chocolate cake for dessert had to be sent back as it was STALE. They either cut portions and leave them standing until served. I only took one bit. Sorry,

I would recommend Paul Martin's. The food was great! Unfortunately, for our first time we had a really bad service experience. Our server was having a really off day! She was nice enough but she forgot to put our order in and would just disappear. We were waiting about 40 minutes for our food. We had a three year old with us, this could have got ugly. :) I do give kudos to the manager who eventually caught on something was not right and proactively offered apologies and a very generous discount. When the food came, I was pleasantly surprised. Very very good. A little expensive but really good. I will give them a second chance on service. I think it was just an off day.

Very lively, noisy and crowded. Service was overkill. Service person was pleasant, but kept coming by asking if we needed anything-a little annoying. Food wasn't bad, salt & pepper shrimp appetizer and burgers were okay, but over-priced i thought. Asked for an Irish coffee after dinner and got coffee with whiskey, no cream. Big bar, but not sure they knew what an Irish Coffee was. All in all, probably wouldnt go back. Good for an after-work drink/dinner for the 30 somethings.

As always, we had an outstanding meal at Paul Martin's in San Mateo. What made our evening even better was our fabulous waiter, Brandon, who was extremely knowledgable about all the selections, including wine. He provided great service, while never being obstrusive. When we return, we will always ask for him.

My family and I tried to have dinner at Paul Martin's on Friday, February 15th. I say "tried" because only one of the three of us successfully ate a meal. Our crab cake appetizer, turned out to be a "crab cake burger" that was seared on the outside but uncooked in the middle. Topping that off, my Brick Chicken appeared to have been prepared nowhere near a brick, but rather poached with some type of juice poured on top. However, I have to give the kitchen credit because the chicken, just like with crab cake, was pink in the middle. While I enjoy "pink in the middle" when it comes to steaks and burgers, the same can't be said for crab cakes or chicken. And wile my wife's salad looked appetizing, she had long lost any desire to eat after seeing the crab cake and the chicken. The best part? We got to wait almost 30 minutes for our entrees to be served. For some reason, Paul Martin's just can't seem to get its act together. This was our 4th time eating there, with the first 3 having service issues (forgotten items or lengthy waits to have our order taken or food delivered), but they've now surpassed those experiences with inedible food. Too bad, because it's such a good location and attractive space.

My husband and I went to Paul Martin’s for dinner on Valentines Day. We ordered drinks with our meal. When my husband’s raspberry mule came, the raspberries on the skewer were moldy! My husband didn’t realize it and ate 1 out of the 3 raspberries!!! We flagged down the manager and he was apologetic but only changed it for another raspberry skewer. He didn’t even bother to ask/suggest getting him a new drink, let alone comp’ing the drink on the house. It’s like he didn’t really care! It just literally left a bad taste in my husband’s mouth! We won’t be back!

We enjoy the food at Paul Martin’s American Grill. As usual the service was a mixed bag. We chose to split a meal. But the kitchen didn’t split the order. We had to complete that task at the table. Embarrassing! Their wines saved the day. We will come back.

Took family to dinner for Valentines Day. The website, ambiance, and decor scream fancy restaurant. In fortunately the food didn’t deliver. It was underwhelming at best. It was hot and served in a timely manner, but was relatively tasteless. I ordered the fried chicken and it had almost no spices in the crust. My son had the skirt steak it was several cut up pieces of meat thrown together on the plate. Again, under seasoned. The sides were basic, and ok.
The prices are outrageous for this kind of food! The bill for four of us was near $200, but I think I could have gotten better food for much less at a different restaurant.

I must say that the service was really fantastic except for the host. When I showed up she just stared at me. When I told her I had reservations she stared again. I then realized I had to do all the talking so I gave her my name and number in the party. Without speaking to me she turned to one of the other hosts who quickly and efficiently welcomed us and took us to our table.
The waiter was great, welcoming and very good at keeping drinks filled. We never had to look for him, he was always there when we needed something.
The greatest thing Paul Martins has going for it was the manager. He looked after us, checked in with us several times, and cleared plates, filled drinks, and brought note bread when the waiter was busy with other tables. As we were leaving he gave us a $10 gift card, thanked us for choosing them and asked us back. If the food was better I would go back just for him and the waiter. He deserves a much better restaurant!

Paul Martin's is a consistently good place for lunch because the service is good and the noise level allows conversation at the table without yelling. My only complaint this time was that the chocolate cake was stale!! Too bad because it is usually worth the splurge.

The worst meal I have had in years. It took 45 minutes to get a cocktail and glass of wine and a bottle of wine for 4 of us. 3 of us ordered prime rib and after another 45 minutes we were told they were out of it except there was some in the oven if we could wait another 45 minutes...... We waited and when it came it was RAW!!

I visit this restaurant a couple of times a year, hoping it will return to the quality I once experienced dining here. Sadly, my last visit was not very good. I made a reservation 5 days before, including the information that one guest was in a wheelchair and it was a birthday celebration. When we arrived, on time, the hostess asked us to wait while she retrieved an additional lunch menu. When she returned to the desk, she took a lengthy phone call while we waited. Another host came to help us, checked the computer screen, and told us to wait while he removed a chair for the wheelchair. So, we waited longer.
At the table we were greeted by a server trainee and later her mentor. Both of them were pleasant, well informed and efficient. However, the kitchen must have been backed up because we waited 45 minutes for our entrees. We did not order appetizers, but we did order a bottle of wine for 4, which was nearly gone when our food finally arrived. Mine was the worst. $19 for steak and bacon tacos that were ice cold and had been sitting for so long that the dressing on the side salad had run all over the plate and made the tacos too soggy to pick up. Very unappetizing. My guests ordered salads, which were okay because they were meant to be cold. However, $22 and $23 for entree salads is expensive. The best part of the meal were the 4 cheese biscuits (complimentary) at the beginning of the meal. If we hadn't had those we would have been even more ravenous when our food finally arrived. This restaurant needs to get its act together. It used to be a pleasure to dine here, but not now. We may go back and try again, but I'm not sure.
