Paul Martin's American Grill - Roseville
This always a nice dinner experience with friends but I still get “sticker shock” when the check comes. A Steak Cobb Salad with about 2-3 ounces of tough, chewy steak for $24 is a bit ridiculous. A salad!!! However, we do enjoy dining here, we just don’t do it very often.
Been there twice with a fine lady and we have fully enjoyed the service as well as the food.
Enjoyed the onion soup
Our meals and service were fantastic as usual!!! Whether you are having a causal meal or there for a special event Paul Martin’s is a great place to go!
The service was outstanding. Short ribs could have had more quantity.
Birthday celebration. We are regulars at this restaurant.
I don't write reviews, but I am compelled to do so because this has been my favorite restaurant for ages.
Boy it pains me to write this, but the service here is nowhere near what it used to be. I give it a 1, where it used to be 5.
I've eaten here maybe 6-7 times over the last year, and the service has been a 1 every time. Every time in recent memory, we've had to ask repeatedly to get refills, have had to wait an extraordinarily long time to both give our order and to receive our food. They forget what they promise (I'll go get you a cup of coffee, but forget).
It didn't used to be like this. Every server, every time. Peak hours, off hours, weekdays or weekends, lunch or dinner, it makes no difference.
"We're busy, we've got a large group in front of you, we're short staffed, we're in between meals etc." Excuses for days. Repeatedly. By everyone. Apologies galore, but the next time you go in, with high expectations that the past was all just an aberration, it repeats itself. Not even average service.
So although the food is tasty and I love the menu, I don't like my food luke warm, served long after it should have been. I like an occasional refill on my iced tea. I don't want to have to ask twice for a new set of silverware because the server got distracted. I don't want to be told we don't matter because they have other patrons to worry about...Message received.
I'm a lay down and walk over me type of person, but my tolerance has it's limits. I won't go back.
Paul Martin was one of my go to locations for years. This last experience makes me wonder if I will ever go back. It was a dark and stormy day and we took my mother for lunch. The restaurant was not busy, we were immediately seated and then proceeded to wait, and wait. After 15 minutes I finally went to the hostess and asked if we actually HAD a waiter. She checked and it appeared no one was assigned our table. All the time we were sitting there, without water, without drinks, the manager of the restaurant was engaged in conversation with a couple directly across from us, such that he was actually facing us. Not once did he look, scan his restaurant no notice we were unserved. Once we actually GOT a server the service was good. The food however was lacking. Monte Cristo-just say no. The batter is the same batter they use on the fried chicken clearly and not a light batter that is appropriate. Fish Taco tortillas were cold. The only saving grace was the french onion soup. It's sad to see a good place run badly.
great waiter, food and drinks. our waiter insisted we take our time and take it all in and enjoy it. We did!
It was a Saturday afternoon, brunch was available, the ambiance was quiet, and Kimberly (our Server) was amazing!
This was the best experience I've had at Paul Martin's, Roseville!
It was our first time here. We will definitely come back. It is worth the drive. Chelsea was great! Her recommendations were delicious!
Food is always wonderful. We have never had bad service or food. We go for special occasions. You can get a booth that looks over the crowd. It’s just great.
This is one of our favorite restaurants. Food is always fantastic. We were there for NY Eve and our server was very preoccupied with a table of single women. He forgot to bring my cocktail, bring an appetizer. We had to wait 20 minutes for him to bring our check. Every other time we've been it's been 100%. I'm sure this was just a fluke.
JJ was a great server who took good care of us despite it being a busy on New Year's Eve.
New Years Eve
Paul Martin’s is a place of pure enjoyment! It has a very relaxing and inviting atmosphere. The food is phenomenal beyond words. I will recommend them to anyone and everyone. My wife and I have been coming here the past 9 years and love it every time! Thank you again for a great experience!
Family new year eve dinner
We booked this restaurant for a special birthday occasion. They greeted us acknowledging the special birthday celebration. When being seated (close to the front of restaurant) we asked for a booth farther away and they accommodated us. Waitress was friendly and also acknowledged the special celebration. The waitress asked us if we wanted to order appetizers after our cocktails arrived and we asked for more time since we were doing gift. Unfortunately, she left us hanging for way too long - maybe 30 minutes or longer. We had to ask for her. Other than that, it was great. The food was excellent! We will too full to order dessert and they brought a chocolate cake with 2 candles to share. That was a nice touch. We will definitely revisit this restaurant.
J.J. was wonderful - attentive but not intrusive. Great food - appetizer of the crab cake, filet mignon as well the brick chicken for the wife and I. Fabulous evening overall!
We enjoy coming here even though it is a bit of a drive from El Dorado Hills. Never expected to find a good Fried Chicken dinner here but it is my favorite dish. We were here on a Sunday and my wife had the Prime Rib that was excellent. This was our 3rd time here. I love chocolate cake and I’ve seen it being served and it looks great. I have to eat less of my dinner, which I haven’t been able to do yet, so I can try the cake. Either that or take a piece to go next time.
We do enjoy coming here. Have been just the two of us and with friends and each experience has been very good.
Excellent food from an extensive menu, great service all in a nice atmosphere. Perhaps a bit pricey but that hasn’t discouraged us.
We look forward to our next visit and meal (haven’t chocolate cake one way or the other).
Hmmm. Since my son lives in Roseville, always looking for a good place to take him and his fiancé out to dinner. The place was beautiful, and the staff friendly, but the food was just okay especially for the price. We paid higher prices for this dinner than in San Francisco, and the food was NOT at that quality. Also, please - don't tell me a meal comes with asparagus, make me order potatoes and pay for them separately, and then serve me 2 spears. 2 spears!
Food was good but nothing special. I might recommend for drinks and hors d'oeuvres but probably would warn folks off of the highly priced dinner menu. Just a steak, people. Not magic.
Eric our sever was well informmed and his recommendations were awesome.
Always meets or exceeds our expectations. We have been dining at Paul Martins’s since it opened
The service is always good, staff gracious. Food always good.
Cocktails were mediocre, small and expensive for what you get. Too much ice in the old fashioned. Margarita tasted like a mix. Both were very small. Food was pretty good excepting: the asparagus with the halibut was not cooked enough, very tough. Halibut needed seasoning. Too much dressing on the steak salad, should have asked for it on the side, and it tasted like bottled dressing. Service was good. Andrew should stop with the “and for the gentleman, and for the lady”. Makes him appear uptight and stuffy.
Given the booth closest to the door which kept opening and closing on a cold nite. I counted 12 empty booths and tables toward the back. Very disappointed
It’s our tradition to eat here on Christmas Eve and it didn’t disappoint. Everything is fresh and locally grown. Service was on spot and another great meal at Paul Martin’s!
Our traditional Christmas Eve dinner at Paul Martin’s. everything was excellent as usual. As busy as they were Matthews service was spot on and he made time to be very personable.
Best dinner we have had in a long time.
Food was great. Our server was average, not warm or engaging. Espically for the holiday season. The manager on duty was engaging and helped raise the service level.
Our server, Matt C., was incredible. He was extremely knowledgeable, attentive, and accommodating. Best server we’ve had in a LONG time!
Food was really good! Ambiance was good. Our server was awesome! It was super busy and loud for an anniversary, but were it any other occasion that wouldn't have been an issue. The service was awesome and everything came out cooked to perfection and in a timely manner. The kitchen is clearly used to being slammed and handled a busy dinner rush with no problem. Spectacular wine list! I'll certainly be back again, just maybe not for an intimate occasion.
went for sunday night early christmas meal because they serve prime rib
the meat was an excellent size and quality and the cost was extremely reasonable.
a little noisy but likely because it was packed at 6:00 on a sunday night so not unexpected
overall excellent meal!
Service was excellent. I believe his name was Mathew P. Food and drinks were great and the staff was very accommodating to our family.
First class food, staff, ambience, all around. Will definitely come back!
Super busy when we arrived but service was great!! Quality Of food was very good. A really enjoyable experience!
Although we had a reservation and the tables were empty (around 5:00), it took 15 minutes to seat us. Our server was annoying and had to ask others for answers to our questions about the menu. We were happy with our food, except one item that was not served with side listed on the menu. This can be a good restaurant, but needs to have more professional staff at the front desk and serving.
Always a place I go back to with or without clients
