Paul Martin's American Grill - Pasadena
Celebrated my son's Birthday. fiood was delicious. since the mac n cheese took extra long they were supposed to delete it from the bill. After areminder the bill was corrected. Everythinhg else was fine!
Nice variety of fresh foods. The servers are always nice and helpful. Great place to meet friends for a meal.
Great brunch- we really enjoyed it
As a whole it could have been a better experience if more communication was had. Upon booking the reservation I made sure to note that it was for a special occasion, yet the seating we were assigned was less than desirable. We felt that the seating was too close to the kitchen as well as too deep within the lobby. That meant that noise level was incredibly high. Fortunately the outdoor seating we transitioned too was lovely. Subtle heat lamps that didn’t take from the pleasant ambiance of the setting. The drink menu was wonderful and meals ordered definitely met expectations. However that brought up the biggest issue! Receiving our meals ended up taking almost an hour for only two plates. Our server never became truly clear and instead we received random touches from different individuals. Instead of being told what the delay was which is always preferred we were just unintended to. And a random additional bread and butter was sent to the table rather than a server.
This is a great restaurant but the kitchen is slow with service. The food was wonderful as always but two in our party got their food on time and the third person waited over 22 minutes for the simple dish to
arrive after the others had finished their meal.
Felt a little rushed in that the order was all placed at the same time. Would have liked a little time in between appetizer/salad/entree since we barely finished one course when the next arrived.
Always great food, service, greeting and ambience!
The service was very good. We had a party of 8 & they handled everything very smoothly. It was for brunch. Very nice & would definitely go again.
We've been to Paul Martin's many times for dinner. This was our first experience w/ the weekend brunch. I was pleasantly surprised. My husband had the brioche french toast and deemed it one of the better versions he's had. The soup of the day, New England Clam Chowder, was excellent. I expected it to be thickened w/ flour and starchy but it was a nice cream chowder with chunks of potatoes and recognizable bits of clam. My fruit plate was nicely prepared and the fruit sweetly ripened.
The gourmet chocolate marshmallow sundae was a bit disappointing as it lacked enough chocolate sauce, though the vanilla ice cream is excellent. They seem to have changed the accompanying condiments. Seems to me, it was better on another day.
Since we dined early, the noise level was minimal, though the quality of the choice of music on the patio was inconsistent and sometimes annoying. At least, it did not interfere with conversation.
I deducted a star because the tables on the patio are the most uncomfortable style. One cannot put their legs under the table. It is a very strange design for a table considering it's where one hopes to sit comfortably to eat!
The service was friendly, prompt, attentive and responsive to our requests.
I ordered sea bass but have to send it back because it was overcooked and fell apart. The second time it was done well but was floating in its own oil. Hmmm
My friends went for steaks and were happy with it. Probably steaks are their forte.
Appetizers were good. we took artichoke dip, chimichurri board and ahi tuna salad. FYI: Portions are small ( European style) which I like but some people might expect more for this price tag.
Their dessert menu was boring so a lot of people in our party just ordered coffee or tea only. I got a butter cake ( the most interesting dessert on the menu- really???? )
We ordered 2 bottles of wine but were charged for 3. The apology came the next day in the form of gift card when we stopped by the restaurant to ask our waiter why we were overcharged?
I expected a little bit more from that restaurant because it's not the first time we dine there but it seems that with years, the service and menu items got worse.
Paul Martin's Grill has one of the best vegetarian burgers in the Los Angeles area. The burger is mushroom based and the binder is water and potato. I like the low lighting and the big booths. Our waitress, Lisa, was very friendly and knowledgeable. When I asked about the ingredients of the veg burger she went to ask the chef to get the proper answer. That was great, considering it was a Saturday night and they were very busy. Service was fast, even though there were several large parties being served.
We had reservations for 6:15. They told us we had to wait 10 minutes, but we noticed many, many table unoccupied. Hostess had told us that tables needed to be cleaned, but all the tables we saw where completely set. It is a very noisy restaurant. It may had been overcrowded because it was the Sat. after Valentines Day which fell on Friday and people were celebrating. We are scratching it off our Pasadena restaurants.
This is a great place to dine. My second visit and am sure there will be more.
I couldn't have been more happier with the entire experience. The staff helped me set up my proposal and the turn out was amazing. The food and atmosphere was on point with top of the line drinks from the bar. I would recommend this place to anyone.
It was Valentine’s Day so it was very busy. Made reservations about a month early. Great place for food.
Ordered the grilled artichoke and got a very steamed and slightly grilled artichoke!
Ordered a cocktail and 30 minutes later got a water down cocktail.
Main dishes where good.
It’s the details that count!
Waitress was very attentive made Valentines Day go very smoothly. Food was fantastic definitely going back.
Incredible service! Incredible food! Super friendly and respectful staff. Matthew(waiter) is great!
Great food and dessert!
Great menu and exceptional service. Very relaxing ambiance. Great for special occasions!
The food and service is always outstanding!!
Food is great.
Service is generally attentive yet also strangely unaware and simultaneously uncomfortably hyper-vigilant, rather like someone who has learned a new dance, has the steps almost right - but not quite, the timing almost right - but not quite, and is so nervous they’re dancing with a real person instead of an imaginary one that they step on their partners toes while holding them too tight - AND forget to enjoy themselves....
Having made an off-handed suggestion to our waiter, a manager showed up to inquire while we we’re eating. While they were ostensibly attempting to assure that we were satisfied, the response was an overshot miscalculation and embarrassing. Learning how to “read” a table is equally important as technical details.
This was to have been a special dinner for my mother who just turned 95. Unfortunately, we couldn't stay and have dinner because it was HORRENDOUSLY NOISY! Open Table's rating scale for noise level has "Energetic" for the highest noise but this word "Energetic" makes the noise sound appealing … but it is not. The manager tried to accommodate us in a slightly less noisy booth but that still would not have worked. It is a shame because I believe the food at Paul Martin's is probably outstanding. I guess I will never know because I can't make myself try the restaurant again even with the $20 off discount card the manager gave us.
Our waiter was very attentive and came around often. Our meal was delicious as well. Paul Martin's never disappoints.
Came here a couple of times. Food used to be good. But not this time. We ordered crab cakes, BBQ back ribs and Steakhouse Cobb Salad and a couple of drinks. The crab cake was salty. The ribs was too tender and salty, like eating tofu. The salad, well, is with goat cheese all over the place but very little greens. So overall food is less than satisfactorily. Anyway, my wife and I agreed that it would take a while before we would re-visit this restaurant again.
The hostess was very welcoming and seated us per our request. The service was a bit off and maybe because they were very busy being Happy Hour. Neither of us finished our meals or dessert and asked that the server package them up to take home. After what seemed like a long wait, the server came back with the check but no doggy bag with our unfinished food. He had no real reason why it was not packaged for us, so we didn't push it any further.
The shrimp and artichoke appetizers were wonderful, the French onion soup was extremely salty and the broth was extremely dark and rather odd tasting. The mushroom burger was pretty tasty and only ate a portion of it so we could have a birthday dessert which was the butter cake. WOW is that rich and over the top with butter. We will have to try again during the week or after happy hour is over to see if there is better value eating here.
Great place. The front staff is always great, the servers are impeccable and the food is always terrific
The side car and old fashioned drinks were perfect.
The calamari for a starter was great. Hot, crispy and perfectly seasoned.
The salmon was outstanding. Shingle served with the perfect size, seasoning and heat.
The steak salad was just great. Perfectly seared steak. Generous portion.
The ice cream was perfect for 2 to share.
Paul’s is always the perfect place.
We were a party of 7 and everyone’s food was too salty
Our server, Josh, was very attentive and courteous, and our food was excellent. You can tell this Paul Martin’s location is high on providing great customer service so customers will WANT to return. Not sure if this was because we it was after happy hour. But nevertheless, I will definitely be returning! Thank you for a pleasant evening!
It’s a fun girls night catch up. My first drink was very weak/watery. I had the gin Collins. The second drink was normal- a Moscow mule.
Relaxing and delicious. Reasonable noise level even with a moderate crowd. Attentive service but did not feel rushed. Diverse menu and food was tasty!
My family and I wanted to grab a late dinner in Pasadena and settled on Paul Martin's. Dinner was very nice and good prices. The blackened steak was tasty and tender. The prosciutto Mac and cheese was surprisingly flavorful and the asparagus was grilled nicely. My mom got the shrimp linguine and it was very tasty and a good size plate. This is not DTLA or the westside but for Pasadena it was a nice dinner. Only knock was my penicillin. Waitress had to ask if that came with gin. Oh boy. Drink was too strong and watery, no honey barely a hint of lemon and not enough ginger. The whiskey sour wasn't much better. All and all it was a good value and tasty dinner but the drinks need work
We were celebrating my parents’ birthdays and had a party of 11. Our table was ready by out arrival and we were a fee minutes early so it was nice not to have to wait. Had a pleasurable evening. Will definitely be back.
We had a great time! Andrew was attentive and had great recommendations! Food was delicious from appetizers to the main course. The Braised Short Rib was delicious!
Fantastic food & great service! Love Paul Martjn’s - Pasadena
Our yearly get together with a group of friend that promised to get in touch with each other.
Appetizers and onion soups r way too salty this time
