Paul Martin's American Grill - Mountain View Ratings and Reviews
I ordered my ribeye to be cooked as medium rare, but it came out as well done and cool. The second round was cooked to medium rare, but lack taste. It was advertised as a prime cut, but it was far from that. The restaurant seemed to be overrun with large parties. It appeared it could not handle the load. Still no excuse.
I love Paul Martin's, but unfortunately, I can't leave an outstanding review this time around. When I first called to make the reservations, I made sure the waiter/waitress would bring my parents an anniversary dessert. The response was they normally only do so for birthdays, but of course, they would accommodate. The day of the reservation, I called again to make sure the dessert would be ready to go. The response was yes, my parents would be getting an ice cream and shortbread cookie dessert. Sadly, my parents did not receive a dessert at all. I'm not sure who dropped the ball, but since this was my parents' 30th anniversary dinner from me and my sister, we were quite disappointed, to say the least.
First off, I was late and they were still able to accommodate me. I had requested a table and they only had a booth open at that time, instead of making me wait, another customer wanted a booth and had actually just been seated at a table, one of the managers on duty asked if she wanted a booth one was now available and she was happy to move and there was my table! He did not have to go through all that trouble for me, but he did and it was so much appreciated! The food was fantastic. The portions of the sides were a bit small but very tasty. A fabulous dinner on my Anniversary - what more could you ask for!
I always have a Fabulous Time at Paul Martin's!!!! That's why I chose Paul Martin's for My Good Friend's Birthday Ladies Night Out Dinner. We had an Amazing time. Kyle was the Best from the minute we walked in to treating us to a Lemon Drop shot and always checking to see if we were doing okay.
Thanks again for a GREAT Ladies Night Out Dinner for my Friend's Birthday!!!!

We really want this restaurant to succeed - the atmosphere is beautiful and the food is very good. But our service on Saturday night was exceedingly slow. There were several large parties, but otherwise it was not very busy. From getting water, to our food service, we were waiting a long time for service. I hope this is not the regular mode of the restaurant.
I got a $60 gift card for this restaurant and I am a vegetarian but I eat fish. They did not have much options for any of my dietary needs. I had the fish tacos and it was so so. My friend got the mushroom burger and he said it was good. Their wine menu is very good. The service was pretty nice, I love the look and the feel of the dinning. However, since I am a vegetarian I would not go back.
I had made reservations. When we arrived, she didn't ask if we had them, or didn't seem to care that I had made them. She just asked how many, and directed us to a table. Grant you it wasn't busy, yet it was a very ho hum welcome.
Our server started off great, then kind of dwindled off after the order was taken.
Food was good. Our server gave recommendations, yet again, there wasn't any real follow-up.
This was a Sunday evening business dinner. We were seated at a booth so it was relatively quiet. The waiter was very good at describing items on the menu and for recommending wines. Two of us enjoyed our meals. The vegetarian option and the salmon were perfectly cooked. I ordered two appetizers, a salad and the salt and pepper fried shrimp. My colleague ordered the braised short ribs. According to him, the meal was not very good. My shrimp were delivered nearly 10 minutes after my friends meals. They were overcooked and I couldn't taste the salt and pepper. The next time I am in Santa Clara, I will likely bypass this restaurant.
It was just okay in my opinion. Will probably try somewhere else when looking for a steak dinner. We both ordered steak and all it came with was a heaping pile of mash potatoes. No greens or other sides. For that reason I felt it was very over priced. The happy hour was really good though! There were a lot of different options and small plates. The deviled eggs were my favorite!
Terrible service and experience for a very special occasion.
It was my father's 60th birthday, so a very special day. We made reservations for 5:30, arrived on the dot and the table was not ready. They prepared the VIP room for us and seated us around 5:45. Around 10 minutes later, the serving assistant arrived to ask us what we wanted to drink. We asked for water and a few minutes to look at the menus. 20 minutes later, the server arrives and asks us what we want to drink again. 20 minutes after that, the server brings water for half of our table. In summary this is the rest of the night:
50+ minutes to be seated and to get water.
30+ minutes to get order
1.5 hour to receive appetizers
2.5 hours + to receive entrees
3.5 hours total for dinner to conclude
Food was excellent, service was terrible. It cannot take over 50 minutes to just get water. We had small children with us too so you can imagine how difficult this was to try and manage their hunger and exhaustion.
We watched as tables in the main room came, ate, and left by the time we even received our appetizers.
I was very disappointed in how our party was managed and would absolutely not recommend this restaurant to friends especially for special occasions. I was embarrassed by the service and by how we were treated. The server, although kind and apologetic, did not do much to speed up the service. I had to ask twice for my water to be refilled and it was never refilled.
We never got to order...we left after waiting a long time to get service. When we actually had the waiter’s attention the attitude left a lot to be desired.
The waiter asked if we would like anything to drink. My husband asked for water and the waiter said, “Sure” and disappeared for 5-10 minutes. He didn’t even give me a chance to place a drink order.
When he came back to our table with water, he asked if we were ready to order. We asked about specials and he simply said, “Uh, we have a strip steak and halibut.”
We were sorry to bother him and decided to leave.
This was our third visit to this restaurant., so obviously we have liked the food and even the service we previously experienced. The service sets the tone and having such a bad waiter like we did tonight made us feel like the rest of the night would be disappointing.
I was very disappointed as the $16.00 burgers were not great at all! I ordered mine medium rare and it came medium well. My friend who was visiting said she wanted a really good hamburger and I remembered a great burger I had there last time I was there. The service was mediocre and it was pretty quiet in there. Not sure I'll bring anyone else there.
This steakhouse was surprisingly good. Seems like the hostess was new--bringing no or the wrong menu for dinner. Server was earnest, but didn't seem to know much about the food or how it was prepared. Yet, he tried to be as helpful as possible. The restaurant's relationship with certain wineries enabling it to offer excellent wines by the glass was a real plus and surprise! Blackened rib-eye steak was excellent as was the grilled artichoke. We will definitely be back!
I've been here a few times in the last month. There's a challenge with consistency. Either the side dish or this main dish was tepid each time. For some reason they can't get white wine to be more than room temperature - same thing happened both visits. Why don't they chill the glasses if this is a known problem, which according to our waiter it was?
Overall the food is a B, but at these price points I'd appreciate if food was hot when it reached the table and white wine was cold - every time.
We have been to Paul Martin's many times and find the food to be consistently delicious, and the wait staff attentive and well trained. The daily happy hour drinks, appetizers and dinner menu (before 7 P.M.) is a great value.
Great evening as expected. Everything about the staff and food was outstanding. Only disappointed in the attire of some of the customers. Maybe they took a wrong turn on their way to fast food. Just do not want to see one of our favorite restaurants pulled down because people don't care.
It took nearly 10 minutes once we were seated before anyone acknowledged we were there, and that was the manager. He brought water, but then no one came back for another 10-15 minutes. We ordered martinis, which were served in what appeared to be champagne flutes. They were good, but it was odd. Once our order was finally taken, the food came out quickly. The food was good and worth the price. The service, though, was very poor.
this was our first visit and we really liked it. Nice selection on menu regarding food and wine. Has many wines by the glass. Our waiter was very friendly and responsive. I ordered the cedar plank salmon and my husband ordered the skirt steak. Both were cooked perfectly, very tender and tasty. Another person in our group ordered the short rib , also tender. It was sunday, prime rib night and another person ordered the prime rib which I also recommend. We got banana cream pie for dessert which was yummy. Ambiance is modern, casually elegant. Will definitely come back!
