We've eaten here about 5-6 x since they opened. Can honestly say that up until this recent experience, we weren't that impressed. In the past, service was so-so, and the food was about the same. Really never thought we'd go back, but a coworker gave us a gift cert a year ago and we finally decided to redeem it, almost begrudgingly.
I wish I could remember our servers name because she was SPECTACULAR. Sharp, attentive, playful, really just the best. I made sure we told her that, and we also told the hostess on our way out.
The food was really great too. I had a mushroom soup special that was P E R F E C T. I really enjoy soups, especially when they are carefully made. This was just excellent. REALLY really excellent.
Kudos to management. Place had been sorta average for a while. Glad we went back after a year of avoiding the place.
Nice restaurant but nothing makes it stand out compared to other restaurants in the area.
Very nice. The hostess allowed us to sit in a both where we wanted to sit, although she began by directing us elsewhere. I asked about a certain part of the dining area and she was very gracious about it.
The good - service, drinks (good pour 7 oz wine pours and good cocktails) so would do happy hour (and they have it every day 3-7 pm). The not so good - food (everything was super salty especially the onion soup and spinach) and my Sunday night prime rib medium pink came out kind of soggy brown), I probably should have returned it but the service was good so I didn't bother (after they already offered to give us less salt drenched spinach and waived the soup).
We were there for lunch on a Saturday and it was very quiet with not many people there.
The food was very good and well prepared. One item on the menu said "smashed potatoes" but
don't confuse them with mashed potatoes. They are fried potatoes with the skin on and very
good. I asked the waiter to have them poach my eggs "hard" but they were delivered to me
soft and somewhat runny. The waiter said he would correct that, but I took them as is. The nice
part of going there is that you can find parking fairly easily, which is not on the street but on
a lot in front of the stores/restaurants at that location.
I love the new week-end brunch menu! Great egg and cross rib tacos, a super Monte Cristo sandwich, and fantastic house made muffins!
Before this time, I had only bee to Paul Martin's for happy hour or late night cocktails. It is always bustling and fun so I decided to try it for lunch. I was not disappointed!
The artichoke was the highlight of the meal. The rest was delicious as well, but that artichoke! Everyone should order it. Everyone. Cooked just right and very tasty. I am so glad the veggie burger isn't some defrosted patty stuck on a bun. It was delicious with lots of flavor. The fries were excellent. I could eat a bucket of them. :) Next time bring more.
The service was excellent. One of the waitstaff (I think he was the manager) heard my friend and me talking about someone who brought a dog into the restaurant. This was not a service dog so we were a little taken aback when they sat right behind us. The manager moved the people to another table and apologized to us! We are both animal lovers so we almost felt bad for saying anything, much less for being heard. I did, however, appreciate that they took care of the situation quickly and quietly.
Paul Martin's is a great place with friendly staff--the bartenders are always friendly and will often let me taste something I've never had.
If I could give this place 10 stars, I would. I'll definitely be back.
Good overall experience at Paul Martins. We’ve eaten there quite a bit over the years and they are generally very consistent.
Going out on Easter was special, affordable and fun for those 51-91 years old. Everything was very good, pleasant and a menu that had something for everyone.
My wife and I went for Easter brunch and were generally disappointed. The special cocktails were good, but both of our crab Benedict entrees were barely warm albeit tasty and with a properly poached egg. While the restaurant was mostly empty when we arrived at 10 (more people arrived at 11 as we were finishing), the wait for a server to take our order, wait to get the check, and wait for the receipt to be signed were all longer than they should be. There are plenty of spots in the area for an upscale meal, I recommend some other spot.
I've come back to Paul Martin's after receiving special menu emails this year. One for V Day and the other for Easter brunch. We really enjoyed the menus, the staff, and the food. Please keep it up.
We had a wonderful experience
Good food with wonderful service.
My food was not good and it is too expensive for poor food
Our experience was not up to par this time. My meat order came out overdone. I sent it back and the manager apologized but didn't offer to reduce the bill, even though I had to wait for my meal until the rest of the table was about half done. The flavor was also not up to par (this has previously been one of my favorite dishes and, as a result, a couple of my guests ordered it also. They, however, chose to eat their dishes overdone. One of my guests ordered a Manhattan up (his 2nd). It came on the rocks, and when he asked the waiter to fix it, we saw that the bartender just poured it into a different glass, so it was quite diluted when he got it. If this had been my first time, I would not go back.
We visited before going to a play in Palo Alto. Sat in the bar area and ordered from the Happy Hour menu. Everything was great! Good pricing.
A good meal, but nothing really stood out as outstanding. I appreciated the good service and wine list. Flexible accommodating our business party which changed size.
Food and service was excellent. Ambiance is very nice, but noisy.
Incredibly disappointed in this place. When it first opened, it wasn't very good. Still, we decided to give it another shot a few weeks back. We had a pretty good experience too, albeit with low expectations. We were looking forward to going again, and we were hopeful we'd become regulars. The last visit, however, was a regression to the mean and we won't be back. Granted, the place was busy. But the food presentation was bad. A $24 entree seemed like it was literally slopped onto the plate from the pan. The same dish was presented more elegantly just weeks earlier. Worse, our server placed our order incorrectly and didn't take accountability for the mistake. Once the bill came, however, it was clear the server was at fault. We get that mistakes happen. We understand that being a server is hard. But the approach was all wrong. We want to see restaurants in our community succeed. But we're sorry to say we just can't support this place. Such a bummer.
A wonderful place to celebrate a birthday. The staff was responsive and thoughtful. The kitchen was a little slower than ideal, but the food was flavorful and everyone was happy with their meal.
Enjoyed the evening. They were great to accommodate our party of 10 in a private room!!
A bit disappointed today. They weren't their usually dependable selves, I suppose. Everything was a let down from the food to service. We had to ask for bread. The French onion soup was okay. It had plenty of cheese, but lacked ,most ironically, onions. Very few in either my wife's or mine. The taste wasn't superior as we've come to expect either. My wife's calamari was a huge disappointment today. Apparently they fried it in rather old oil, for it had absorbed a significant amount of oil and lacked crispness. The most shocking disappointment was my supposed filet mignon. I don't think it was filet mignon but top sirloin. It wasn't very tender, lacked flavor, and was the most ill-shaped cut for a filet mignon I've ever seen. Very sad indeed! At least the wine was good and my side of mashed potatoes were good. Otherwise today was a washout! Not worth the drive today.
Very very good service, the food was middle average. Will come back one day.
The food was very disappointing, it was my son's birthday and he was extremely disappointed. The food lacked seasoning and flavor.
Paul Martin's is a great restaurant close to our home and the food is delicious!
Excellent wine! -great dining experience, the Alaskan halibut was to die for!
The kitchen failed our awesome waiter, Ivan. Husband's steak under done, my burger overcooked and obviously a pre done puck. So sad for a place that prides themselves on mesquite grilled meat. Won't be back.
Went to Paul Martin's last night. This is my 4th time there. Generally, their food is excellent and service is very good. However, last night they ran out of the candied walnuts for the salad (but didn't tell us - and its not a cheap salad) and our steaks took 1 hour to arrive. When our food arrived, my steak, which I asked for to be medium rare, was totally rare. I was disappointed as it was late already. I sent it back. The manager came over to apologize and hand delivered the steak after it was supposedly cooked. But the 2nd time, it was *still* rare! Sent it back another time - 3rd time was a charm.
The waiter was very apologetic but we later found out that the main chef was on vacation and I got the feeling that another chef was also out. So apparently we got the 3rd string. Moreover, the people next to us received their steaks earlier than we had and they sat down later (same size party) but they told us their steaks were cold.
Next time - I'll check to make sure the main chef is "on".
So my review is a bit tainted but for this 1 time experience. In the past, I've had nothing but good experiences here.
We have enjoyed most of our dinners here, but Saturday's experience was not great. I ordered the steak salad with no bacon, and the waiter brought it with bacon on it, said "with no bacon" and then dropped it on the table and left.
My husband carefully explained his gluten and dairy allergies and asked if the chicken was a safe choice. The waiter assured him that it was a safe choice. It was not. My husband started having a reaction after three bites and had to stop eating his dinner. The waiter looked at the plate at the end of the meal and removed the full plate without comment.
The prices keep going up while the quality and service keeps going down. We loved this place when it first opened but the last few times we've been there the food and service have been disappointing. Sorry to say we won't be returning.
Wonderful atmosphere and service, but the food was disappointing. My burger was just okay, I didn't finish it. My friend's french dip was too salty, and my mac & cheese had an unusual seasoning that just wasn't to my taste. On the plus side, the short ribs, mashed potatoes, and cauliflower sides were delicious. So I'd give it another try, especially since the waiter was delightful!
our server barely spoke out loud, and not even english?
the bread arrived very late, and overall coordination seemed poor.
but the food was well prepped and hot.
Good food and service but overpriced
Sunday special featured HUGE roast beef serving. Everything else very ordinary.
Date with my girlfriend for Happy Hour. Reasonable pricing but food was mediocre at best. I would recommend for drinks only as the bar is nice.
Was pleasantly surprised by this visit to Paul Martin's in MV after a couple of lackluster experiences. I took my friend here for her birthday and were pleased to get a booth for two in the back. Our server was attentive and friendly. We shared a salad, I had the salmon which had lots of bacon on it, and she had the pork chop, which was so big she took some home. My Greyhound cocktail was strong and delicious. Thank you for a nice evening, letting us girls talk.
Food was not what I would call gourmet but it was excellent and the service was perfect.
Despite having a reservation it took the restaurant 30 minutes to seat us. It sorta ruined our Valentine's day dinner. Luckily the server was very kind.
The service, the food, and the atmosphere were good BUT too pricey.
