Paul Martin's American Grill - Irvine Ratings and Reviews
It was our first time eating at Paul Martins and we were pleasantly surprised. The salt and pepper shrimp was delicious. We asked to have a few different sauces. I loved the cocktail sauce and my husband loved the chili aioli. The quinoa bowl looked delicious, and They were able to accommodate my request to have salmon instead of chicken for a small extra charge. It was amazing. The best blistered tomatoes I've ever had! The salmon and veggies were perfectly cooked. My husband had the ribs and fries and he was not disappointed either. Great service and nice ambiance. We will definitely go back and we are happy to have another go to restaurant for date night.
The filet was amazing and my wife really enjoyed the Asian salad. She also had the best mojito she’s had in a long time. But the chocolate cake was WOW!
Busy Valentine’s Day May have been the reason for the slow service, pricey but expected for the Spectrum, will definitely return.
The food tasted amazing, we had crab cakes, the Red fish, Steak (although this was nice it was just a piece of steak on a plate with 4 x pieces of sweet potato) it tasted great but looked a little boring
The service was terrible, really let the meal down, 20 minutes for a bottle of corona when there were 3 x tables in the restaurant is rather pathetic, and our kids meal which we ordered as soon as we sat down came out after our appetizers and was the last main meal to be bought to the table.
Id probably go again during the happy hour to give it another go but definitely not for an occasion meal again.
Bottom line is I understand that nothing I write will make any difference in the big picture. However I still feel that something should be said.
Paul Martin management: $40 steak choices... really??
Where is the ocean and/or the glorious view?
What on earth justifies that you can get that price?
A nice ambience and overall fun restaurant. However, the food is not quite up to par with other good restaurants. For example, when you order filet mignon, it does not come with any house made sauce - you get A1 sauce instead! We had a large group of 16 for a birthday celebration and we had only one waitress helping, who was also serving a few other tables! So the service was inadequate. I mainly recommend the restaurant for its ambience alone - so a good place for drinks and appetizers with friends.
We normally would rate this place much higher, which is why we chose Paul Martin’s but on this particular occasion we were sat next to the kitchen extremely noisy) the salad came out without the requested salmon, and the waiter was actually argumentative about why, and everyone mentioned how extremely salty the food tasted. It was an attorney luncheon that was quite important to us, so it was a little disappointing.
This was our first visit to the Irvine location. We came for happy hour and ordered two glasses of cabernet, the butcher board and smoked salmon crostini along with a ribeye entree. Everything was absolutely delicious, cooked to perfection and beautifully presented. Our server Lauren was extremely attentive, efficient and friendly. Staff and management were welcoming and observant in every way. We look forward to returning soon.
Monday night wine and dine a good deal. Short ribs tasty. Pleasant ambience. Placed our drink orders including water. Took over 5 minutes for water, drinks longer. Time between courses a little long. After entrees were served a request was made for a condiment. Server returned to our table twice but not with the condiment. Request was repeated and server commented, “I only have two hands!” A bit brisk and unprofessional I thought.
Hostess was nice enough. Reservation was for 8:00 o’clock. We arrived at 7:40. She told us we would be seated closer to eight. Although we had some 20 minutes till seated she did not bother to offer us to wait at the bar or to have a seat at the lounge. Very young girls hosting. More interested in talking to each other. Although the hostess would have been fine with us standing at the door for 20 minutes we decided to find our way to the bar. We found friendly and professional service at the bar and from all other employees. The restaurant and bar area beautifully decorated. Food was wonderful and unbeknown to us, those celebrating a bday can choose a complimentary dessert from anything on the menu. We had the carrot cake which was delicious.
We were celebrating a birthday. We told the waitress we were celebrating a birthday. She brought a scoop of vanilla ice cream with a little whipped cream to be shared at the table. We all thought this was great until we received a $9.00 charge on our bill. I don't know of any restaurant that charges for a scoop of vanilla ice cream for a birthday celebration.
First of all we waited more than 20 minutes to be seated despite our confirmed reservation. Then the waitress came 20 minutes later while we waited with 3 kids. We ordered food for kids first but they came after another 20 minutes mentioning the food was not available. The food came very late. The service was really bad....
Food was very good as always, but service had an off night. No water for 10 minutes, bread 20 minutes after that. Drinks took 15 - 20 minutes to arrive and glasses stayed empty, then food took over 30 minutes to arrive as well.
I've been here too many times and know this was an aberration, but it was disappointing.
PM's is a nice place. But getting VERY expensive. Their Happy Hour prices are quite high. And as for dinner, with a couple of glasses of wine each, an appetizer, and some plank Salmon, you can run up over a $170 bill. That's getting up into Fleming's territory, and this isn't Flemings.
Was seated for more than 20 minutes before a waiter approached our table, and then only after asking the hostess to get someone. Food was very good, but my steak salad came without the steak. Again, it was difficult to get a server ‘s attention. By the time I got the steak, others at the table were finished. Never an apology. Never an attempt to make it right. Never a visit from the manager. The meal would have been comped at a well run establishment.
We had booked reservations for New Years Eve but were late to our seating. We were informed that after 15 minutes they had to give our table away, which was quite understandable. They were completely booked but told us we could sit at the bar area where there was open seating, which we did. We were served promptly and efficiently by Nathan, one of the bartenders. We shared a Cajun rib eye steak which was excellently prepared and tasted wonderful. Nathan recommended the banana cream pie for desert and glad we did as it tasted great and fresh.
