Food was generally quite good. The chicken on the skewer appetizer was thin and dry, but the pulled pork appetizer was quite flavorful with just the right level of spice, as was the mahi mahi entree. Service was mediocre at best, but we had expected that based on the reviews. My biggest complaint by far was with our cocktails. I’m really a lightweight when it comes to alcohol - even one margarita would typically be enough to make me tipsy. I had two and wasn’t feeling a thing. I didn’t think much of it until my friend, who had two mojitos, said to me as we were walking down the street afterwards, “I don’t think my drinks had any alcohol in them.”
Excellent food and drink. Authentic scratch made Mexican food. From carnitas to ceviches, everything was great. Owner served us and was fantastic. Great selection of tequila as well. Unfortunately the restaurant was not crowded at all, as we were the only table on a Wednesday night. But this place deserves to be. Food was outstanding. With the best quality and selection of food outside of Mexico, San Diego’s Patron’s Corner deserves a try.
We ended up leaving after an hour and fifteen minutes because our food never came. At around the 30-minute mark, the manager let us know that the chef got sick and had to leave the restaurant but thought he would be coming back. From then on, the server just kept telling us "10 more minutes". We gave up. As we were leaving, I told the manager I wish he had told us up front how long the wait really would have been and given us the choice to leave at that point. He then proceeded to argue with me saying that he told us there would be a delay. We phoned in orders to Burger Lounge and picked up our lunch to go from them. I might have tried going back if the manager hadn't argued with me in the end instead of just apologizing.
The service was incredibly slow and the food was okay at best. We had a reservation for 8 at lunch, arrived on time to a nearly empty restaurant, and it still took 45 full minutes to get our order. They seemed to be completely understaffed. We did not order appetizers, not knowing that chips and salsa are not provided to each table, nor did we get any as a kind gesture to tide over our incredibly long wait. And then the food was just meh.
Was surprisingly empty on a Friday night, but it meant the staff were super attentive. The inside of the restaurant smelled strongly of bleach, as they mopped the floor near our table just as we were seated. Drinks were great, and our server suggested a nice alternative when she told us that there was no sangria that night.
The food was less exciting than I’d hoped. We were warned that the mole was hot - it had a nice kick but wasn’t crazy spicy, and had a reasonable depth of flavor, but the chicken in the enchiladas was dry and bland. We asked for sides of roasted vegetables, which were very good.
So overall it was good, but not great.
One block off of busy 5th street is this quiet corner cafe with a nice atmosphere and very fresh food. We had the ceviche, pulled pork taco and the best, freshest scallops we’ve ever had. Not cheap but still a decent value for a great meal here in the Gas Lamp District.
We enjoyed the happy hour and the appetizers. The street tacos were OK, but nothing spectacular. A decent value for the Gaslamp area and an excellent selection of tequila.
Three of us dined at Patron’s Corner on a Monday evening. I had the skewered chicken appetizer. The chicken was dried out, stringy and too spicy for me. My companions had the filet mignon tacos. They were nothing special. The dining room had no air conditioning when we walked in. It was turned on after our request. There was no blender so this restaurant that specializes in tequila cannot make any blended drinks, only on the rocks drinks. We will never be back.
Food was outstanding. We went for breakfast and would highly recommend!
It was just ok
Fantastic dining experience for those who enjoy authentic Mexican fare. Healthy menu options were a plus for my wife who likes it healthy. Highly recommend!
We were looking for a nice place to go on a date. So happy we chose Patron's Corner. Started with a couple of appetizers & drinks. It was delicious. Nice selection of tequilas & margaritas were the bomb. We had scallops & fillet mingon norteno. It was really good. Service was attentive. I will definitely bring my girl back here again. Best date in a long time.
Really killer patron margaritas. Amazingly good creamed corn appetizer. It is served as a soup, but you can request they thicken it for eating as a dip with chips. That said, main dishes just ok. We are gringos who lived in Guadalajara for eight years. We have had gourmet Mexican food (as opposed to our familiar Tex-Mex), Patron’s Corner falls short. Probably better choices in the Gaslamp Quarter.
Great food, even better margaritas! Excellent service!
I went there for an early lunch. There were very few people in there at that time, so I got full attention from the server who was very friendly, attentive and helpful. I ordered the fish sandwich which was very good and a delicious strawberry juice.
Doubtful this place will remain in business.
Food was excellent. Service was really slow, and we felt really rushed when the server gave us our check before we were even finished with our meal.
Very nice place food was excellent
Large group (15) and they did an excellent job hosting us.
This is a neighborhood restaurant for us. We like the authenticity and sophisticated Mexican food and friendly service. We and our daughter all ordered ceviche as a starter; the presentation was outstanding and it was delicious, but a bit hot/ spicy for me. I loved my entree of nicely prepared scallops with rice and an elegant sauce. Husband and daughter both had burritos and said they were good, though not outstanding. Our Margueritas had so much ice in the glasses that they became watered down too quickly. Next time we will know better and order them as we prefer. Service is quite personal and professional. We look forward to coming back and further exploring the menu.
Where to start? We were seated by the hostess who left our party of 4 with one menu, promising to return when more “were available”. Interesting. 10 minutes later she walks right by our table with a handful of menus which she gave to people waiting outside who had not yet been seated.
Our waitress did her best, but was obviously run ragged.
Our first appetizer, guacamole, took more than 15 minutes too arrive. We then waited another 10-15 or so for the other two we ordered. All were quite tasty albeit rather delayed in showing up to the table.
The wait continued for probably another 25-30 minutes for the entrees. We were told that a “big table” was the culprit for the delay. 3 of our entrees appeared. It took another 15 for the fourth to show up—-lukewarm at best.
Although the food was generally tasty when we ultimately received our orders, we have never really experienced such inexplicably disorganized service. I would strongly recommend avoiding this restaurant lest you fall prey to another “big table” issue.
Menu was not updated on Opentable. The enchiladas with Mole were okay, but a little dry and not as flavorful as some other places in San Diego. The meal was a little pricey for what you get. The margarita was good and I would definitely recommend this place for the drinks.
The service was fantastic. Appetizers were great and the Mahi was tasty too. It was a very friendly place. Recommend for sure
Unique Mexican food offering. Great restaurant for a different food selection.
Very nice staff. Excellent food and drinks!
Had some delicious vegan and gluten free dishes! The recipes are special here, and know it takes a lot of energy to put out great dishes like this! The salsa verde on the vegan enchiladas is probably the best I’ve ever had. It’s spicy, so you know. Oh, and try the mole, you will like it...
The bar menu has some very hard to find top shelf tequilas, and they make one of the most legit margaritas in SD. I prefer the skinny version myself that has a few drops of agave nectar and shaken well.
Patron's Corner was a great find. Their food was so delicious with amazing service. The owner Paul came to our table and made sure we had the best experience. They also have a fantastic selection of tequilas! Salud!
My wife and I have eaten at Patron's corner twice now. Both times we had excellent high-end Mexican food. The quality was top notch, the service was good and the menu provided numerous interesting dishes. We met the owner, Paul, and he made some excellent recommendations. So far, this is one of the best high end Mexican restaurants downtown. This is not the taco and burrito destination (although there was one burrito on the menu) but more a destination to explore higher quality Mexican cuisine. We will be back.
The owner was very attentive and took personal concern to assure our experience was a great one. Margaritas were excellent. Would definitely go back again
Awesome, patient and attentive bar tender. Fantastic service. Would've liked more choices for appetizers.
Portion sizes are particularly small and left us still feeling hungry. The guacamole was completely bland and lacking salt. Poor choice in dining options.
