We had an excellent meal at Patiala during our stay in New York. We had the chutney taster, followed by the black pepper lamb starter for my husband. For mains I had the butter chicken which was wonderful - rich and flavoursome. My husband had the shrimp vindaloo - it came with a warning for being spicy and unusually for the USA, it lived up to its billing! It was a very hot dish and akin to a vindaloo or even a phal that we get in the UK. My husband loves a hot curry and he thoroughly enjoyed it. Highly recommended.

This was my 2nd time eating here, my prior experience was Exceptional in every way ! But this time, we felt Rushed along... We wer having dinner before going to 8pm Theatre so made a 5:30 Res it was early and not many people ther. My friends wer on ther way but I was not seated at table to peruse menu, get drink... Once seated, the female server we had was polite but kept pushing us to order additional dishes to try them and often they wer Pricey $$$. The Food was Very Good as before. We wer quite full after meals and did not want dessert but would hav liked to sit jus a bit after to digest some... It wasn't even 7pm yet, so we wer only ther a little over an hour wen the Hostess came to me and asked if we would leave now to clear the table. I Really thought this was a Rather Rude request as did my friends, for a Restaurant of this Quality to make. I could see if we had been Lingering ther say 30 to 45 min after eating... but we hadn't even finished our drinks yet and had Just finished eating and paid the bill. Needless to say, I was offended by this and my Friends felt that was odd and sort of Rude as well. I feel a Restaurant should Always allow at least 1.5 - 2 hours for a party of 3 or more to be able to have a nice dinner. I feel this will definitely color my decision to choose to eat at this restaurant for an occasion as this in the future !

It was really busy and took a little for the servers to even take our drink order. I didn’t like that but everything else was great. The food was amazing and the vegan option were fantastic. I’ve been to Indian restaurants all around the world, literally, in Italy, Africa and more and had never seen the panna puri before. That was a fun experience with the group.

It was very good authentic Indain food; we were practically the only non Indian patrons in the very full restaurant. We were rushed through dinner with each course served very quickly. While we were finished after an hour, the restaurant asked us to leave and free on the table for the another reservation! Our reservation was at 7pm. We were asked to leave at 8:10pm. I felt that was an unreasonable and rude request as we were enjoying our time together at the table.

When you enter you feel immediately struck by an Asian hotel restaurant vibe with bright colors, the grand chandelier, and two story seating. We were led upstairs to a beautiful semi-private area that could accommodate over twenty guests. The drinks were standard well drinks, and I ordered a Mimosa which tasted pre-mixed, but I was not here for the drinks, i was here for the food. We ordered the Pani Puri, a delightful appetizer with the pani separate from the cracker. We had a lot of fun filling up the crispy cup with the liquid and chickpeas in delightful liquid meets crispy bite. In the Fish Makhani the coconut milk and curry leaves lent to a rich velvety textured sauce paired with rotti, and found myself enjoying this flaky and unexpectedly moist fish. The Patialia Mutton Curry was so silky and perfectly spiced, I found myself eating seconds and thirds with the Chilli Garlic Naan. The coriander, cumin, and garlic carried the flavor of the dish. The service was attentive, consistently checking in on us for refills on water and drinks. The Vegetable Curry on the Jain menu fell a blt flat, relying heavily on tomato for flavor when abstaining from the use of garlic, ginger, or other roots that flavored the other foods. I would definitely recommend Patiala to anyone for the incredibility flavorful food, but would recommend neither the Jain menu nor the happy hour drinks.

A great find. This, our first visit, was a treat and we will be back. Food was excellent and service was good too. Big issue for newcomers is to figure out that there are two restaurants with similar names. This one (on W 35th St) is fine dining and requires reservations (and a per-person deposit to assure you will be there). This was a bit odd, but the restaurant was crowded and clearly popular, even on a Monday evening. It was clear to us why they didn't want to hold tables for people who might not show. Once we were seated, however, there was no sense of being rushed and we were delighted with the meal.

Reservation was ok and quick to get a table. Galouti kebab was class. Superb. Chicken malai good. Problem was with Tandoori pomfret. As I had noticed most of their fish dishes were from cheap fish like tilapia I asked multiple times if the pomfret is Indian white pomdret or the Golden Pompano and they said it's Indian white pomfret. Finally it came was a Pompano and still the server kept saying it's pomfrer and not Pompano as I kbkw very well the difference. Then I had to request for the manager and he finally agreed it's Pompano. Am surprised such highly rated restaurants are doing such cheap tricks. Also when I asked about their speciality the server told all fried items and biriyani which is all readily cooked. Very bad servers. I never ordered anything which ge recommended.
