Pastina Trattoria Ratings and Reviews
We happened to be in the neighborhood at 5.15p - checked with open table and they
had a table for us at 5.30p. When we first came at 5.30 there were very few people
there which always worries us but by the time we left the place was just about fully seated.
Service was really good - friendly staff - fast. Food was very good. There's a fair amount
of Italian restaurants that leans to much on creams, butters and salt. These guys did not.
Just good flavors from good produce. It truly feels like a family restaurant - dont know if it is but...... We had a couple of starters, glass of wine, three main courses and desert and we ended up at around $100 - very affordable for our experience.
If we're in the neighborhood and looking for Italian food we would be very happy to visit again.
The food was excellent and reasonably priced and I liked the ambiance.. The waiter was quick with service but a disgruntled person who was almost rude. He clearly doesn't like his job. He failed to inform us that we would be charged $20 apiece for a glass of wine. He had not brought us a wine list instead encouraging us to order a glass of wine and saying they did not have a list for glasses of wine, only bottles. Afterwards it felt like we had been scammed.
Consistently excellent in food quality and attentive service. My wife and I especially enjoy the wonderful fresh fish. Relatively low noise level even when busy. It is a favorite for both small dinners with friends and business lunches. Thoughtful and attentive but not intrusive waitstaff.
Last time I ate there, the service was so bad. This time the service was good, but, my dinner had to be sent back. In addition when they recooked the salmon as requested, they left off most of the vegetables. The wine was good. We went there because I have 2 friends that are hard of hearing and they were able to hear. That is an important issue for us.
I ordered the lasagna and took several bites noticing an after taste. A very bitter after taste. I did not eat any more in fear it might have something spoiled in it.
My husband ordered ciopppino again, not impressed at all
This is our second time at the restaurant and we will not be coming back. Too many really good Italian restaurants in LA.
The food was excellent. We ordered wine by the glass since my friend and I like different wines. For that reason I was disappointed that there was a single white and single red offered on the By Glass Wine List.
The plated food was very attractive. The pasta was perfectly prepared.
The noise level is a bit of a challenge. Otherwise, I would dine here again.
Pastina is a rare find! The food is a 10 on a scale of 1 to 10. The value is fantastic. It's conveniently located close to the Landmark movie theater. I had their linguine fruiti del mare and my date had the vegetarian eggplant dish. Both were incredible!!!!
Neighborhood gem. Great food and service. I've been here w/my family and friends in the past 6 weeks 3 times . Portions are a good size. The fried calamari and burrata and prosciutto are my favorite appetizers. So good!! Great pastas, grilled salmon and sea bass grilled to perfection. My 22 year old who is very picky enjoyed his sphaghetti bolognese and the salmon bow tie pasta is delish. Disappointed they didn't have my osso bucco that they had when I came the first night. Hoping they'll have it next time I visit which I'm sure will be in the next 2 weeks. :)
We live in West Hollywood and have plenty of great places to choose from but I must say it is worth dealing with traffic on Santa Monica Blvd to get here. Wonderful place to dine. Excellent quality ingredients. Very friendly greeting when you arrive, always checking during dinner to make sure everything is fine. This was the best Italian meal outside of Italy...unlike many other places in town that try to overdo the simple Italian cuisine in Italy...it was perfect. If you have traveled to Italy you know the more simple the place the better the food. I must say I had the best Veal Piccata outside of Italy.....perfect along with everything else.
We keep going back to Pastina because the food and service are excellent. The menu has a wide variety of authentic Italian food. There is something for everyone. Our tricolore salads were crisp and had just the right amount of tartness and sweetness. The pasta was al dente. Two of us had fettuccine with pesto. It had just enough sauce and was not at all oily. One of us had eggplant Parmesan. She said it was crispy and delicious. My husband loved the minestrone, which is chicken based. Our other friend had Caesar salad and chicken. He said both were good. The wine and beer were also good. Their flourless chocolate cake was a tasty end to the meal.
We must go to Pastina 3 to 4 times a month, sometimes more. Why, you ask? It's wonderful Italian food. It's always good. It's our home away from home. It's like going to your family's for dinner, but without the fighting. The waiters are all terrific and laugh at my jokes. Franco (the owner) is the best, as is his chief assistnt and wife, Nancy. The chef will make almost anything you want. Their Mon-Thurs. Prix Fixe Menu is an amazing value. Enough? Get yourselves over there. You won't be sorry. PS: We've been going there since we moved to LA 4 years ago. Go!
the food was ok, but not great. appetizers again were not super but we were hungry so we ate. the entrees- one pasta puttanesca and one angel hair with tomato and garlic were also good but not great and the shrimp with garlic oil and mushrooms was very good. However, the service was just not good at all. I would not return. We were ignored most of the two hours we were there much of that time waiting either for a waiter to talk to us or get us the check. Really not worth it and won't recommend or return.
