The food was mediocre. i had the linguini vongole. the clams had a delicious flavor and the pasta was flavorless completely.
also the lights are VERY bright. i was looking for an ambient place for a birthday dinner and it felt the opposite. almost daylight inside.
the prices are great. you can’t beat that for a large crowd.
We went with a group of 5, I've dined there many times before. The waiter mentioned some seafood that was not on the menu, halibut, sanddabs etc. A few in our party ordered these. The halibut was over cooked and portion was kind of small. The surprise came when the bill came $45 a plate, a terrible value for what was served in our opinion. Why didn't he quote pricesbif these dishes were out of line with menu prices? We will have to reconsider whether we will visit again. Sorry Pastina you embarrassed me this time....
Always a good experience. The food was very good and the service was excellent.
Food was good, if a bit heavy. Service was rushed as if to move the table, which was disconcerting. The restaurant has a good neighborhood reputation but I am rarely a patron mainly because of the pushy service.
They were so nice to give us a tiramisu on the house - and it wasn’t even an apology. Just a nice thing to do. Maybe because we were clearly on a date? They did a great job of giving us space to think, enjoy each other, and take our time to order. That made the whole date longer and more enjoyable and it felt intentional but subtle. Great food too!
Excellent food Much too noisy , though
First time there. A great surprise. Small neighborhood Italian with a welcoming vibe and good food and service.
It's a very pleasant neighborhood Italian Trattoria, tasty food and good value on the 4 course prix fix.
Pastina has some of the most authentic Italian food I've found in L.A. In addition to your typical Italian menu, they offered a 4-course Prix fix menu with several options at a great value. Our party of 5 all got different pasta and main course options and everyone enjoyed theirs. The shrimp scampi and chicken Marsala were especially good, and a small Tiramisu for dessert really capped off a delicious meal. Although we didn't indulge, the had the full suite of Italian after dinner drinks as well. On a Monday night, it was pretty quiet, but obviously a place where locals return, as the waitstaff seemed to know someone at every table. We'll be back soon too!
Your food is too delish and John, our server is excellent.
Please put a large, noisy party at another table, not next to ours when there were no other patrons in the restaurant.
This restaurant was recommended to us, however, the Cioppino I ordered was tough and overcooked.
My two work colleagues had a veal chop that they both said they liked at $49.95 each. The service was slow, and it was difficult to get someone to order food and wine. For over $100/pp with our wine, I expect good service, and we did not get that.
I would definitely not order the Cioppino. In fact, last week I was in Boston and a colleague ordered the Cioppino at "Legal Seafood." I had a bite and it was MUCH better and fresher than what I was served at Pastina Trattoria. Legal Seafood also had crab and lobster in their's for the same price. Mine did not.
We have been here many times and have always had a great dining experience. My friend had pasta and I ordered the halibut. I should have asked the price but didn’t think to as halibut is usually an inexpensive fish. When the check came, we almost had a heart attack as they charged $45!!! Outrageous considering it was simply prepared with some carrots on the side! Not exactly a good value!!!
First time dining here, and I plan to return soon. Good Italian food in a lovely environment, attentive wait staff, and quiet enough to carry on a conversation. Perfect.
Delicious food and thoughtful service
Delicious food and wonderful service. Our entire party enjoyed themselves very much
This is becoming my favorite restaurant as the food, service and ambience make for a great combination.
Great to linger in our neighborhood haunt midday in the AC and good food..
We arrived at 7:30 on Tuesday night The restaurant was not busy until about 8:45 when it became 75% full. The food was a 3.5 out of 5. The service was disappointing. Our server was not friendly or attentive at all. We had to request service for everything. i.e even to buy more wine, or cocktails.
We ordered appetizers and he brought our salads first. Although, I would recommend this place as the food, prices were good and a great location to where are son lives.
We dined with relatives a few nights ago. While our server was pleasant and accommodating and most of the food was very good, my elderly cousin did not like his pasta entree and when he was able to get the attention of the server, asked to return it. The server offered to replace it with something else.
When the bill came, the returned item was still shown. The server apologized but said there was nothing she could do other than call the owner over. The owner was argumentative and rude and essentially told my cousin that no one returns his food and that if we didn't like it we shouldn't come back -- and refused to offer any concession.
This was an unfortunate way to end what was otherwise a pleasant dining experience...
There are no adequate words to describe this delectable dining experience. The ambience, the service and the food on a scale of 1 to 10 is a 20. My dish which was linguine with seafood had such large shrimp, scallops, clams, calamari and mussels were so large and so worth the price. The tiramisu is the best I’ve tasted, and the spumoni is from Italy. Everything here is the real deal. One of the best meals Since I’ve been in California, which is 45 years. The owner came over to our table and we chatted a bit, there is a definite sense of pride. PHENOMENAL TIME 👍
Good food, great service! I had salmon special and husband had halibut. Mine had a mustard sauce that was delicious. He liked his as well. The sides were some string beans and broccoli and roasted potatoes. They tasted OK, just could have been more special, especially since the salmon was so tasty. My favorite part though was dessert-spumoni!!! It's considered old school so not very common which is too bad cause I love it! The wait staff and owners were very attentive. Seemed to be a family run place which I really appreciate.
My second visit to Pastina (dinner) -- and better than the first (lunch). The food is very fresh both in ingredients and preparation, with many choices for vegetarians. Generous food portions and wine pours! Service is more of an European style (relaxed pace) rather than American (fast). A lovely place for couples as well as celebratory groups. Make a reservation if you're going in the evening; restaurant is not large and fills up fast.
We love this restaurant, and we've come back several times. Unfortunately, we don't live nearby, so it takes an occasion to come. Glad we had that occasion this time.
Reconnecting with friends.
Food, service, surroundings all a++++ great place to have dinner with friends.
I love this neighborhood Trattoria. The food is consistently good quality, with a nice mix of authentic-Italiano food and Italian-American food. The service is always kind and professional. And I love the traditional atmosphere: white tablecloths, pleasant, and quiet enough to have a nice conversation.
Prix fixe dinner is a very good deal. Food is outstanding and portions are generous enough to share for those with a smaller appetite. Attentive service and nice atmosphere. Reservations recommended.
The food an atmosphere was very good. Our service was terrible. My boyfriends glass of wine was empty for over 20 minutes and had nothing to drink during his meal because the waiter never came over to check on us. Finally about 10 minutes after a bus boy cleaned up our plates, our waiter came over for the first time after taking our order. Slammed two dessert menus down on the table, didn’t say anything and then just walked away! To top it off, we waited 26 minutes for our check. Yes, I timed it. Too bad because the food and wine were great. The waiter really ruined the experience.
Got there early before it was crowded. Took our order and we waited 1 hour 15 min for food, a few min extra because fish had to be boned but way too long. When food came pasta was over cooked and soggy and had to be sent back which took another 20+ min
Outstanding service and excellent and delicious food at good price. Lunch set 3- course menu special was very good value
When you walk into the restaurant the noise level is shocking. We were yelling to each other. The food was excellent and the service also excellent. The only complaint was the noise level.
It was fair at best
a bit of a disappointment
Both of us in the party were
Best lunch deal in town. Soup or salad, entree ( choice of 5) and yummy Tiramisu. $14.95.
Bologanise is just delicious. Excellent service. Better go there.
Consistently good fresh food and cocktails with warm service.
Very poor customer service! There was a problem with the food, and the waitress refused to address the issue. She insisited that this was their number one dish!!!!!
My four friends and I thoroughly enjoyed our lunch at Pastina Trattoria on Wednesday. Four of us opted for the $15.95 3-course prix fixe lunch, a fantastic bargain! Two of us chose eggplant parmigianna for the entree, one chose cioppino, and one chose spaghetti and meatballs. We thought the food was very tasty and plentiful! Our waiter, though efficient, didn't smile at first but warmed up later. I would highly recommend this restaurant. An extra perk is free parking in the back lot during lunch. Try to arrive early though as the lot is small and fills up quickly.
Don't miss their delicious food and excellent service!
Terrific! Great food and warm family atmosphere
always good food, top service and friendly atmosphere. We like it
Great food and service
